I never said I wasn't enjoying the game, I don't care about progression or ridils or better gear. I'm not stupid enough to lie to myself and say FFXI ever had progression, may it be before RotZ or after RotZ.

Nope. No progression at all. Which is why people still use Shinsoku, Juggernaught, Gawain's axe... OH WAIT!!! Something's alerting me that the ENM weapons, actually outperform KS99 weapons!

One could say, that this newer item is better than the older item.

    One could say, it's progression!

Except...! People never need to come in contact with most of those items and usually don't! The difference is minimal compared to what progression should be. That's not progression, it's adding more items to a step of progression, even if there is one, or two at most, steps of it.

And I've never kissed ass, especially about gear. I'm simply don't care about it and find doing stuff more important.

Actually, "pwning noobs" gets old fast. That's why I came back to ffxi. And that's why I've started playing WoW a little again with the revamped honor system, which takes away all excuse for running from a real fight other than being a pussy. That means when I get a match against good people, they'll stay and fight.

For me, pvp is all about fighting something a hell of a lot more competent than current mmorpg AI.

That's why I'm one of the few people that actually hopes ffxi wll come out with some more fun pvp stuff, and actually make it useful to the rest of the game somehow.

The only limits are the ones the developers impose. Take a look at the things that are happening in Everquest and you'll see that. Their latest expansion added a new race, raised the level cap, new starter city, new zones from level 1 on up in addition to the expected spells, equipment and merits. If something as ancient as EQ can keep doing that with 1/20th the player base that WoW has, then other MMORPGs can do it if they want to.
    You're totally right.

Unlike FFXI, Everquest has been around forever. I would guess that pretty much everyone there is in their endgame, unlike FFXI which still needs to cater to lower level players.

It's easy to make new items and areas where the end game....is the game.

For RDM the newest peice of gear I use (other than turban in convert macro, but could use faery hairpin) is over a year old (nashira) and those are only situational.

For most people the bulk of the gear they use is dynamis or sky era.

But yes, glaciers do progress, so you are right.

When all the ToAU camps are packed to the rafters I know I'll apreciate being able to exp in Sky in 30 seconds travel time. 12k/HR on Decos beats the ever loving shit out of fighting for every Imp/Mamool/Insert Mob Here pop like it's a Fafnir spawn.
If Signet gave bonuses like Sanction, I'd be in Ulegueand Range right now. Some decent new high end CP rewards wouldn't go amiss either. Or allow CP to be traded for Ancient Currency.

I never really understood why they claimed there was such a policy, as it was basic rubbish anyway. It's not like you can use more than about 25% of CoP without having RotZ stuff done, and it's basically impossible to play BLU without CoP.

To say nothing of the fact that well over 75% of TAU flat out requires you to have RotZ.

Oh, and annoyingly, Flux does have a point. The vast majority of my gear is RotZ era, and even those pieces I could upgrade would be upgraded for more RotZ. A few bits of my kit are CoP era, but not many, and thus far, I wear absolutely nothing from TAU.

If NPCs could blink tank I wouldn't even need to play with other people anymore. The best part is that they'd probably be better at it than most EXP ninja, not to mention they usually stay longer.

    RoZ = melee loot
CoP = mage loot except for RDMs maybe but they can cry into their nashira pants :<
ToAU = more MH space for said loot

    Everybody wins!

Several new quests, including a story that centers on Aht Urhgan's Serpent Generals, are planned for the upcoming version update.

Unlike FFXI, Everquest has been around forever. I would guess that pretty much everyone there is in their endgame, unlike FFXI which still needs to cater to lower level players.
Genuinely low level players are a glaring minority of FFXI's population at this point (disagree? On fairy, every zone of dynamis is taken on wednesdays, half of them on thursdays, and a large number on fridays. you can guess the rest since it's once every 3 days or so. Dynamis... something that in all rights is as close as you're going to get to instanced content in ffxi. Then again that's just players being sheep and not knowing any other day to do shit but I digress, the fact is if by this point you don't have 1 job at 75 you damn well better have made your account less than 6 months ago). The only reason it even remotely evens out is that the more advanced players get bored to living hell and quit because, like flux said, the most substantial and well-accepted update is over a year old.

This game does not have progression, you don't have to hate it or be a dick/debby downer/sandy vagina/drippy vagina/etc to know that, you either hit the pinnacle of what your job can be or you don't. The difference is there, but in the grand scheme of things it is negligible (my wal-mart PLD tanks just fine next to meo. He's better, his gear is better, and as such you can notice it if I slack but otherwise no, we both live, we both have an equal share of hate, we both do perfectly fine). And that's a good thing, it keeps people who would rather not delve into shit so glaringly flawed like camping kings and sending 12 man teams out to tiamat for days on end able to do the other stuff... but I guess that really means jack and shit when your options are "sea" "jorm" "sea" "limbus" or "sea".

    lolav

The update? Yeah, good. In reality, does jack. How many people here genuinely, sincerely, and thoroughly do sky on any regular basis anymore? I used to laugh when I would see bikwin with his excal but like no sky loot because "they didnt do sky" in favor of ground, but at least back then it was still a viable option. Now it's nothing but another bottleneck in another dumb fucking pit against another large group of shameless botters for another potential 4+ hours a day. Is the port nice? Yeah, it would have been nicer had it existed back when sky was done regularly by most groups or at least if there were a way to do sky that didn't get cockblocked by gilsellers/retards/shitheads/etc. None of that should come as a surprise anymore.
