    Documentary about GS/Goldfarmers

Mtv ran this show called MTV News Goes Big Gaming. Towards the End of this Episode about the Wii and Ps3 they have like a behind the scenes look into "Gold Farmers/GS".
They show the Gs/GF in there houses playing computers , it shows them get depressed lol when they get accounts banned, and they mention ige as there primary gil buyer a few times i think. I cant find the actual show , ive looked but if anyone is interested in it the whole Gs/Gf part is at the end of the clip heres the guy that talks about it. there is a attached link to a clip of the show.
I also cant wait for the whole documentary to come out should be interesting.
Anyway this maybe old news someone could have mentioned it before.

*edit* i posted this in the most recent RMT forum but i figured it would get over looked so i reposted it as its own topic*

The worst part is at the end when the gil farmer says something along the lines of "regular gamers need to let us do our jobs...all we want the regular gamers to do is give us a little space and we won't bother you." So basically, he's saying we should just let all the gil farmers have the camps totally to themselves for expensive items so that the only way normal gamers can get these items is to buy them with RL money...?

I LOL'd at the part where they mentioned that they sit in front of the screen for 12 hours a day. I wonder how many cases of severe carpal tunnel they get.

Oh and former IGE pres. said, "We don't exploit our workers." That just made me laugh even more.

Yeah, but that was refering to WoW, not FFXI. I can't say this for sure since I don't play it, but I heard RMTs have much less of an impact there than it does here. Mainly because they can be PKed over there, and not here

If you see a Chinese farmer in the the game, I wish you can understand his job and give him a little space. He'll be very grateful. He won't go to other places to disturb you. He only needs a little space.
Excuse fucking me? I wish he could understand that I'm just trying to play a fucking videogame. Give him space? What the fuck. Oh so you want this Ullikummi? Ooohkay go right ahead! I'll just go farm Ashu Talif once a day and settle for some the sub-par equipment. It's all you man, have at it!

I think I'd be grateful if he quit his job and went back to making kids meal toys.

    People still watch MTV?

Media will always sympathize with their cause because they are the ones working under horrible conditions just to feed their family, while we are just looking for entertainment. Fact of the matter is, MTV and the media really don't understand where gamers are coming from when we say "ban china." lolmtv

Bottom line is, this game isn't for fucking broke ass lazy assholes who are too fucking stupid to get a REAL job to feed their pathetic selves by fucking up our games.

These games were made for entertainment. Do you hear me? ENTERTAINMENT. Not for some fucking rice patty flipper reject. I don't care if they need to feed their family. I don't care if their grandmother who is 96 is dieing and needs medicine.

This is a game. For fun. Not for your fucking source of income.

There is no justifiable reason for this. It's not good. It's not right. It just fucks everything up. Truthfully, the game would be better if we didn't have them. They would be better off if they got a normal job. Period. Not only is what they're doing against the ToS, it just fucks everything up for everyone. There's no good out of it. Oh, of course there's good for those lazy fucks who are too lazy to earn their shit and buy gil and other stuff. Then again, they don't deserve to breath.

I'd like to see those retards who support the gilsellers and even gilbuyers play the game for a while. See what it's really like. See how it actually effects the enjoyment and progress of the game. How can our entertainment be, well, entertaining when we have fucktards like these ruining everything for us? We can't. Ok? Ok.

    RMTfgtsplzdiekthx.

    qft.

Before people flip out by that last guy's statement, keep in mind those are WoW goldfarmers not FFXI gil farmers.

Because of WoW's system, they just farm regular mobs over and over again. You will never have an issue getting a mob that you want because of a goldfamer.

Not saying it's right, but the situation over there is completely different than FF. There's just as many gold farmers as gil farmers, but there's very very little impact to the game on WoW than FF.

fucking stupid mtv. Everyone should submit a comment about how shitty farmers are. Maybe they will try finding the real story of how these people scam everyone.

The silver lining in that whole video was when the bannings happened. The owner went to visit all the other farms and some shut down completely and sold their computers off.

This shows they can get discouraged, and eventually the numbers will die off. Not completely, but after a few more rounds of bansticks like the one SE just did, we'll see considerably less coming back and they'll move on to newer stuff.

Interesting video and yeah it didn't seem like the WoW gilsellers were really monopolizing any vital resources as they can in FFXI (ulli and before that things like o.kote/p.charm NMs and even mining points and digging), although i don't know much about WoW so I might be wrong.

The documentary was interesting, of course it seems very superficial to actual players but the fact that somewhat mainstream media actually starts to talk about it is nice.

I sort of felt bad for those RMTs though o.O, I still think the blame is mostly with the people who buy virtual currency and create a demand for that instead of using that money for something more productive that would drive those same people in china into more socially useful science or manufacturing careers.

The thing is, Blizzard uses nukes to deal with RMT's. Plus as it's noted, they really don't have much impact over there as they do in FFXI. Helps that on PK servers, they can be hunted down like the SOB's they are by hoards of angry players repeatedly.

FFXI with it's massive player driven system is tailor made for RMT's and the fact that SE deals with it's RMT's with shivs instead of MOAB's helps little. It helps even less that they've removed at large a player's skill to disrupt RMT ops. The RMT's really got out of control once it became even harder to use trains and links to murder the weaker once and the final nail was the aggro system that makes it impossable for BST's, SMN's and PUPs to bring down groups of em with bombs.

It also helps nothing that the GM's are outsorced and only SGM's are SE employees. By the time any real punishment can be delt out, RMT's have moved on to other characters. I'm sure they know what characters are flagged by now and thus the big reason for the RMT leveling armies.

The only thing that can really save the game now aside from large scale bans every month and a crackdown or rewriting of game code to deal with hacks is more rare/ex stuff and a upscaling of GM's powers. It would cost a lot more money, but GM's also need to be staged at areas where rare/ex items could be cockblocked because RMT's will do so and only direct and non-stop GM enforcement can deal with it. I don't see SE doing this though. Even if they do, RMT's have deep roots and SE would likely sweep up 'legit' players in their efforts.

I wouldn't go that far... it still has a major impact.

It directly affects people's cognizant processes and the way in which they interact with others based upon the way they develop their character - by cheating.

People who cheat don't know how the game is meant to be played and never will unless they erase their characters and start from scratch...

Cheaters interact with everyone with their distorted views of reality and that is more than "very little" of an impact on any mmo...Of course the same goes on in real life... with corrupt CEOs etc etc.. but in a controlled game-world it should at least be controlled and people should be able to contorl their own selfish impulses..

very interesting i will be looking forward to the movie when it comes out.

It shows the two world of farmers, the ones that do it for fun and for a job and the ones that use this as a alternative to lets say construction worker.

Thats the main reason why I think WoW>FFXI. Even if rmts are all gone it doesnt get rid of how easy it is to cockblock other players out of content. I played FFXI for almost 3 years I was a 75 Paladin 75 Warrior 68 Sam and never even killed any ground kings. I dont see the fun in changing around my real life schedule for Fafnir or any other King HNMs window.
