    >.> Purple = R:255, G:0, B:255

    Red: R:255, G:0, B:0
    Blue: R:0, G:0, B:255

    Purple = Red + Blue

The problem the the Adaberk colour is that it's very dark and desaturated. You have to match the brightness/saturation of the "pure" Blue/Purples to that of the Adaberk to see.

When I did this, the hue that the adaberk is 1/3 of the way between Blue and Purple (closer to Blue), so it's a matter of when you consider something to stop being Blue and start being Purple.

I realized something while I was looking at the samples that Celeras posted ...

My monitor has 2 different color temperature settings ... 9300K and 6500K (and the ability to manually adjust it, but I'm no graphic design artist so I don't care). I normally run at 9300K because I like the look better, and his samples still look very blue to me.

When I change my monitor to 6500K; however, the color definitely becomes purple. Perhaps this difference accounts for why why people are so adamant about their position?

What color temperature do you run your monitor on and which color do you see?

Some would say the middle color is blue, some would say it is purple, however it is an even mix of both. If you dont believe this works as I have used it, take the RGB of red (255,0,0) and yellow(255,255,0) and average it out (255,127,0) and youll get a nice orange.

Perhaps the bright yellow on the shoulders is what makes it to appear more blue seeing as yellow is diametrically opposed to purple? I personally think it is a mix of both. Neither close enough to blue to call "blue" nor close enough to purplr to call "purple"

Edit: I know the middle color is not the same color as adaberk. Rather I am trying to point out that the split in people saying "its blue" and "its purple" comes fromt he fact that really, it is a mixture. The picture was an example, as some people would label it as "clearly blue" or "clearly purple" when it fact it is an even mixture of both.
Adaberk has to be closer to Blue than Purple to get such an even split of votes, because even the halfway point between blue and purple as you've illustrated looks purple to me. I think most people would agree.

However, Adaman Hauberk appears blue, while some might suggest it appears purple. So if the halfway point between blue and purple is still purple, then such an ambiguous color must be even closer to blue than the halfway point.

Plus, the poll speaks for itself. More people see blue.

And as some people have indicated, they thought it was purple, but voted blue because it was slightly ahead. Other vote blue and say they think the clearly purple Adaman Cuirass is blue. I would blame people that only have 3 color receptors, but I don't think 50% of the popluation has 4 if I remember my Perceptions class right. So it's either an insensitivity to color, inability to tell the difference, or just plain oMg nOt teh PuRpLe. And try getting anything passed or done when something has less than a 2% lead if you're trying to say just because it has slightly more votes it wins.

Edit: Ignore certain elections where retirees are obviously too old to read the clearly defined choices.

Edit: Nvm, guess that reply disappeared.

More people probably can't identify Lesotho on a globe than can. Doesn't mean they're right and there is no Lesotho. :D

I kinda question the lighting conditions of those zoomed and smudged pics.

You can make many colors appear a different color under the right lighting conditions.

Another question that might need to be answered: what kind of lights does Vana'diel use? Fluorescent or incandescent indoors? High-pressure sodium or metal halide outdoors? Is their sun made of the same composition of gasses as our sun?

Except smudging a color against a white background makes it lighter than it really is, and in some cases a different color. I could do the same with something that everyone agrees to be red, and make it look pink. Could do the same with some shades of orange too, and make it look pink.

I don't see what point smuding a color proves, unless there's something about the smudge feature I'm not getting.

EDIT: Where the hell is the smudge tool in photoshop anyway? D: Smudge stick doesn't seem to work the same way.

And btw, there's an easy way photoshop can help prove what the color of an object is, I think I saw it twice so far... But, again it wouldn't really matter because different screens/lighting/monitor settings make it appear different for most people.

putting something against a white background does not distort an image. White is a neutral color, it brings no mixing qualities to another color.

It does when the color is made partially transparent (e.g. smudge). But it won't if the white is entirely outside the border of color.

He is right that you can make red look pink by smudging it enough over a white background.

    Ok, I'll debate instead.

That just proves it isn't one definite color, which would mean it'd be incorrect to try to define it as one color. In either case, in order to smudge it accurately into one color you'd have to make sure you're not smudging it into white, which isn't the case in those pictures. I'm not even sure if the smudge tool blends accurately, I kind of want to test it myself but I can't find it. D:

What? lol, you can't be serious? I really have to prove to you that blending white with red makes pink? lol

If you really don't believe it just show me where the smudge tool is, either my version of photoshop (elements 3.0 I think) doesn't have it or it's under a different name.

Mixing a color with white lightens the color. If you lighten a color enough, eventually it'll get to the point where it just becomes white... Mixing certain levels of white with black changes it to appear grey, mixing certain levels of white with red changes it to appear more pink, and with the right shade of orange and the right levels of white you could make it appear to be yellow (and I think pink).

Personally just as a heads up I don't believe it can be accurately classified as blue or purple, it's a mix of both. It isn't a pure purple, and it isn't a pure blue.

EDIT: Correction, lightening orange makes it look more yellow.* Still illustrates my point though.

No, you really have to prove you can make X color look like Y color by using a Z color background. "Blending" is something different entirely.

P.S. In before stupid chessboard image which shows different shades of a color, which purple is not of blue.

P.S.S. Colors taken from smudging on a transparent background.

Can't someone just pull up the texture and check the rgb values of the thing? This way you don't have to worry about game lighting and such, right?

I'm talking about smudging, I am now and always have been from the beginning. If you or someone can point me to a smudge tool in photoshop I'd happily demonstrate it, assuming it works like it should then it would change the color. Smudging together two colors together results in a different color, just like if you smudge blue and yellow together (makes green), smudging blue with white lightens it.

Regardless, my point still stands that it's not pure blue or purple. In addition, your results from blending/smudging in those pictures (or whatever you did) don't support it being purple as far as the technical amounts of color go.

According to Photoshop's results of extracting the color from those pictures, cloth is 68 Red, 61 Green, 91 Blue... Which assuming this is correct math (correct me if I'm wrong), means it's 83.2% Grey, 6.4% Purple, 10.5% Blue.

    Metal is 87 Red, 79 Green, 120 Blue... Meaning it's 82.9% Grey, 5.6% Purple, 11.5% Blue.

However, I'm not 100% sure you could accurately classify the balance of colors in a color the way I did above. There is another way to do it that would give similar results though.
