It's far better than FF7...FF7 just made a big splash because of 3d and FMV. Just like FFX (truly a horrible game imo) made a big splash because of VA.
I disagree with everything you said after your first sentence. Hasn't hating new final fantasys gotten old yet?
I don't care what you disagree with. Hasn't posting here gotten old yet?
You tell me ;o.
Now that I've said my opinion, which one that is pretty much absent from the thread, I have little to say otherwise. I enjoyed both FF6 and FF7 for what it matters, but I find FF7 more re-playable and more enjoyable the first time going through.
FF7 is good, but FF6 is better. There was a big technology limitation on 7 since they tried to do 3D. The years of expertise with tile-based RPG--as opposed to the new and technologically challenging 3d style--means the team was able to really fulfill their vision in 6. You see this when you compare 7 to 8 and 9, while running on the same hardware and the same approximate disk space, totally blow 7 away in terms of visuals, load speed, and content/game length. 8 and 9 are superior games to 7 in almost every way, but people still prefer 7 because it's the one that made the big splash.
FFX is truly, truly awful. Hello kiddie wheels for the first *10* hours of gameplay, game completely on rails, no overworld map, bad voice acting, shitty "widespread" minigame, and a story so boring that I barely even payed attention. The game was made for mass appeal, and they had to neuter it as a JRPG to make that happen.
Cloud is also an emo bitch and Kefka > Sephiroth any day, but that's just my opinion.
