In all fairness 'protection rackets' are actually just the opposite of what they do. RMT do not leave if you pay them, RMT do not do any protecting or attacking, RMT do threaten for being in the same area as them, but they can't do anything. Seriously know what you are talking about before you talk about it, because this was comparing apples to cars (oranges would still be fruit and that's not even close to what RMT and protection rackets have in common).

RMT don't leave the area after you have paid. They are nothing like it. If RMT were, they would ask for gil, then leave you alone and even help you out for a month, then ask for gil again.

RMT however, ruin shit regardless of you paying them or not. It's nothing like a fucking protection racket. They can't nor do threaten you in any way in which you feel you need to pay.

They monopolize the market the best they can and attempt to force you to buy their product.

Quite simply.

Protection Racket: Offers you "protection" from the seller. Will threaten yoiu in any way possible, if you do not pay and ruin your life. Once paid, they will "protect" you and help you until they ask for money again.

Attempted Buisness Monopoly: Will seek to drive out all competition and force people to pay for their product at their prices.

Yeah, I know what he was getting at. The problem is that people seem to think that mafia protection is just like what they depict in the Sopranos. Protection rackets is a term that covers a somewhat wide spectrum of activities.

In most cases, claiming that the 'mafia' people will go away after paying them off is simply fallace. It's not uncommon for continued pressure to be exerted in order to milk as much as possible, and their methods of coersing people to do what they want varies alot as well.
There are of course those who will vandalise your shop or inflict harm on you, but there are also cases where they simply obstruct the inflow of inventory, and continue to disript it even after you've paid, just to a lesser degree.

The analogy between rmt activity and protection rackets is far from poor, and it fits quite well as long as you don't actually think real life is like the Sopranos. Because it isn't.

There were 121 in zone when I arrived, about 28 from my LS 5 or so from random LSs then 80+ gilsellers.

They've killed Tiamat 5 times, including 3 straight over the last 2 weeks

We managed to cock block them today though, but got shitty drops after stealing it from them at 13%

Edit: Guess I should say Viking don't actually kill the Wyrms, there's a shitty random clusterfuck ally of gilsellers that does most of that, but they actually do it better then Viking does in regards to Tiamat. Viking were the ones who claimed Tiamat today.

One of our BRDs also got a 24 hour suspension for Mazurka spamming them.
