Hm, I think I'm confused. I don't think anybody is saying the Big Ten > SEC in conference strength overall. I think it's pretty obvious that top to bottom, there's no question the SEC is better.

What I don't agree is that the Big Ten is "extremely weak." There's definitely a lot of very lose-able games other than tOSU, for Michigan.

As for Lloyd Carr, he has a reputation of being overly conservative, and I think the criticisms against him is deserving. I can admit that Michigan has been underachieving the past few years other than this year. There was a reason why he was in the hot seat...

Outside of their top 3 teams, michigan, wisconsin, and ohio state, they have an entire ONE win against a top 40 opponet. They are top heavy (which is all an illusion anyway, between those 3 teams, they played a total of twelve top 40 teams. Michigan played five of those. The top 3 in the SEC played twenty top 40 teams). So the Big 10's top three are playing a hell of a lot weaker schedules. It was actually reported that a 1 loss USC team (if they hadn't lost to UCLA) would have jumped ohio state for the numbe 1 spot.

I'm optimistic. The Beavers get 17 starters back, although we'll have a new QB. If he can get his act together, OSU should have a decent shot at second place. Of course, we'll have USC, Cal, ASU, WSU and Oregon all on the road next year.

Here is some breaking tragic college football news....

SAN PEDRO, Calif. -- Southern California kicker Mario Danelo was found dead Saturday about 120 feet down a rocky cliff near Point Fermin lighthouse.

The body was reported by a passer-by at about 4:30 p.m., said Martha Garcia of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Danelo, the 21-year-old son of former NFL kicker Joe Danelo, made 15 of 16 field goals this season and led the Trojans in scoring with 89 points. The junior made two field goals in the Rose Bowl on Monday to help USC beat Michigan 32-18.

Speaking on behalf of Trojans coach Pete Carroll, USC spokesman Tim Tessalone said: "We were stunned to hear about this tragedy. This is a great loss. Mario was a wonderful young man of high character.

"He was one heck of a kicker. He was a key ingredient in our success the past two years. The thoughts and prayers of the entire Trojan family go out to the Danelo family on this sad, sad day."

Yeah I dunno what happened to OSU, they're just flat out terrible out there.

And I was wrong...looks like SEC > Big 10 overall this year.

Congratulations on that one -- nice job. You should probably PM Sonomaa with your custom title choice.

Seems like I couldn't pick an SEC or ACC game right to save my life, personally.

My opinion of the final top 10 (because I couldn't decide on 5):

    1. Florida
    2. LSU
    3. Louisville
    4. Ohio State
    5. Boise State
    6. Wisconsin
    7. USC
    8. Auburn
    9. West Virginia
    10. Michigan

Louisville should be like 10th... they let wake hold it close for 3 quarters, and wake blows. Wake had some of the worst stats for any BCS team, and relied on trick plays and luck for most of their season.

Lousiville ran through a Big east that did better than any other conference in a post-season play. Only loss was to a very decent reutgers team, and it came down to a last second field goal. UofL has had one of the top offenses in college football 2 years running, and, AND, that was with a heisman candidate running back out for the season, and their QB out for 2 or 3 games. UofL is very possibly one of the three best teams in College football when healthy. Welp, not anymore now they lost partino and michael bush is going pro. I expect Brohm (who will be the 2nd or third QB taken) to follow shortly after. Wake forest isn't a bad team by any stretch of the imagination either. Great coach, and athletic.

As far as the Big ten/SEC blah blah blah. Im not gonna rub it in, nor am i going to pretend that what happened last night was expected. But it did prove a point i made about scheduling. OSU played a schedule where thy played a decent team, then played 5 strait teams that couldn't even make it close. Florida played a stretch of 4 strait bowl teams before their loss at Auburn. While OSU was looking GREAT against pedestrian teams, Florida was looking good against very good teams. Although, i admire tressel and what he has done, the coaching was aweful. It wasn't the 4th and 1 on the 30ish yard line that i thought was bad, that was a great call. It was the fact that he let florida throw the ball at will. He somehow tried to reason that he could drop 8 back into the secondary and be competitve with Florida's wide-outs. Their wide-outs were fast and more athletic, and he still tried to stick with that. I wonder how many blitz's OSU did last night, noone got in Leak's face the whole game. It was always rush 3, drop 8. Silly idea to give Chris leak time to throw to recievers who are just a hell of a lot faster than your defense. Anyway, if i were to decide a top ten right now, itd prolly be..

    1. Florida
    2. LSU
    3. USC
    4. OSU
    5. Boise State
    6. Louisville (and im a UofL homer)
    7. Michigan
    8. Auburn
    9. Wisconsin
    10. I dunno, i think WVU is overrated.
