Pluto's Staff does appear to have the standard 15% bonus on drain and aspir. However, in last month's Drain/Aspir thread someone posted a screenshot of an Aspir using Diabolos's Staff that would be mathematically impossible to achieve with Pluto's Staff, casting doubt on the previous assumption that Pluto's/Dark was necissarily better.

Yea, I don't think Diabolos Pole will help your accuracy though. With Anrin Obi + Diabolos Pole you could probably achieve some huge aspirs if they go unresisted, guess I'll have to grab that out of storage and try it next Dynamis.. lol

But the problem is that no one else has ever had those results with Diablos's Pole. (Unless they shadow-fixed it recently.)

Well, I guess I personally trust a screenshot that shows something unattainable with the alternatives over the testimony of a handful of people that say, "I tried it out and it didn't feel any different" followed by an army of people saying "I think people tried it out when it was first released and it didn't feel any different."

People did try it out when it was first put into the game, I believe that some people parsed it. They didn't find an appreciable difference between Dark Staff and Diablos's Pole, and found that Pluto's Staff was better so people gave up on it. No one got OMGBBQKittens numbers like that one picture or that would have been everywhere.

Now if you feel like getting a Diablos's Pole and parsing it, go right ahead, otherwise you are going to have to deal with people saying "I think people tried it out when it was first released and it didn't feel any different."

Considering how wildly random Dark magic seems to be [at least for me], I don't honestly think I could tell the difference between a 1/2 resist and the spell just being low on that cast.

I don't have a problem with people saying "I tried it out and it didn't feel different," and in fact I was content with that analysis at the time, as a couple of them were people whose judgement and methodology I trust (although I never saw any real parses, and I doubt they exist since I read the same threads you do as far as I know). In fact, that's the reason I never wasted my inventory space on Diabolos Pole myself.

However, Aspir base damage being capped at 120, staff bonus of 15%, maximum day/weather bonus of 35%, the max possible non-MBed Aspir with Pluto's Staff is 186. In the last Dark Staff vs. Diabolos Pole thread, someone posted a screenshot of a 193 non-MBed Aspir with pole.

I feel that's sufficient to say that it's no longer so obvious that Pluto's is better than Diabolos. What part of this reasoning do you disagree with?

    I'm lazy, so Pluto's > Diabolos's Pole.

Completely off-topic, but I love Genome's comment about Pluto Staff and Aurik's following response in that above linked thread. Hilarious.

Regardless on-topic, even if D.Pole capped higher, I'd still go for the one that parses better, and seemingly that's Pluto's.

Well, like I said above, I don't remember ever seeing any real parses. In a way it's kinda moot, since even if it is better than Pluto's overall, it's clearly not going to be considerably better. and the jobs that benefit most from it are the ones that already go everywhere 58/60.

Get someone to make a Darkness skillchain on your target everytime you want to cast it?

I think the big thing about Diabolos' pole is... even if it does MARGINALLY better, a BLM that has ROOM for a Diabolos pole AND a pluto is most likely skimping somewhere else -_-

I don't see how int wouldn't add accuracy, may not add dmg, but int for any black magic spell should mean accuracy.

Ya I'm still a little confused as to what the correct answer is regarding the benefit of +int for drain/aspir. Most blm spells gain small increases in dmg from a few more int, as well as being less likely to get resisted with a higher int setup.

I know it has been shown that there is an obvious cap to how high you can aspir with a maxed out setup, but to be more clear, are people finding that an unresisted aspir with 0 int gear on will be equal to an unresisted aspir with +50 int gear on? And on a similar note, does int have anything to do with being resisted i.e. the accuracy of the spell?

I don't believe INT affects the potency of Drain/Aspir so I leave Anrin Obi in my Aspir/Drain Macros

I macro in my INT just for the hell of it >.> , but dark magic skill merits seem to help a lot in dynamises where there's always darkX2 weather

still need my darkness obi though

I have been striving to get a 500+ drain for some while now (and for a taru, well, that add a new level of fun to dynamis)

Things I have found, are that MAB or INT have no effect on drain or aspir. I have tried diffren't sets of gear, on the same gamedays, and no apparent diffrence. If there is a diffrence, is it un-noticable, due to the 'randomness' of drain and aspir to start with.

I also have done alot of playing around with Diabolos pole, and Pluto's staff, (our core group of blms have been all testing this) we have found that the Diabolos pole is more consistant in producing higher #'s, but the Pluto's staff has the potetinal to reach a higher drain/aspir then Diabolos pole.

My drain/aspir set is composed of Drk skill+, Fastcast, and conserve MP. I no longer activly stack mab or int for drain/aspir, and I still revice the same big #'s from drain aspir. (constantly 170+ aspirs, and 400+ drains, HP permitting)

Still havn't broke my 500 drain barrier (491 so far), but still want nashira body and blm sea cape for drk+ skill, tossing around the idea of taking out lolelemental merrits and sticking a few into dark.

The part of the reasoning where you didn't read what I said.
