    The problem with RDM/NIN tanking is that:

    a. it is incredibly high maintenance to hold hate - you need to be performing a whole lot of actions on the mob, meaning the other stuff you do as a rdm will likely take a back seat.

    b. almost every other tanking combo holds better hate with less effort.

    While I think RDM/NIN tanking looks like a whole lot of fun, I dont think it is very ideal - I cant think of a single fight where I would prefer a rdm/nin tank to something else.

    Done well, though, it holds more hate and takes less damage...rdm duties that will take a back seat are...refreshing/hasting tanks? lol If there is enough time to cast blind/bind/sleep2, there is enough time to use refresh/haste. Also, 2 rdm/nin will idealy be bouncing hate back and forth. The reason rdm/nin shines in many situations are their innate MDB. This is great for Tiamat Firaga IV and jailor of love. I was skeptical at first as well, but now I am really excited to try this out to the fullest.

    I solo tanked Suzaku on RDM/NIN and didn't lose hate once.

    dmg-% gear is calculated in 256ths, Qbert posted his results in the rdm forums a while back, he based this on the damage he took from 1000 needles from cactaurs.

    a. your a/the tank, your tanking, your not refreshing/supporting anyone, moot point,
    b. incorrect, more survivability than just a simple nin or pld, especially when you have healers keeping you alive, hasted, debuffed,

    heh it is fun, maybe not so in every case but ive seen more smooth runs with rdm/nin than with standard nin or pld, due to the fact that rdm's werent designed to do so hence SE hasnt balanced the emnity of spells like blind bind and dispel, they designed it to punish the support rdm who spamed the spells, but like with nin/war before the utsu nerfs could do practically everything,

    I Used to tank for my IRL static of sky at weapons,... too bad my roomates stopped playing at the middle of CoP cause it's ghey LOL

    anyway,My gear :

    Head warlocks
    Body Narashima(used to). Dusk, ( hpefully duel or crimson in the future)
    Legs Duelist for enhancing +
    Feet Crimson
    Hands Duelist

    Neck Enhancing torque
    Throw Phantom or Bibiki
    Main Joyeuse or Earth staff
    Sub Genbu or earth staff
    ring jelly, fencers
    ear augmentating, abyssal or mp
    Waist warwolf
    back Cheviot cape

    my static PLD changed to DRk and I ended up as /WAR
    enhancing merits, spell interruption down merits everyone did /THF except for main heal. I get hit from 0 - 20 with phalanx I min of 60 without buffs I think this is without food tanking too.

    it does take some skill to tank as one, lots of timing and such, you know, like PLD or NIN way of tanking lol still taking more merits to enhance my performance and be a better sub job as a tank for personal use lol

    wish we still played though Q ;_;

    I'm wondering if Crimson body would bedecent for RDM tanking? A few weeks ago I saw a RDM tank Fafnir in one, just wondering how it is comparatively.

    its one of the highest Def bodies available, other than that, of no real use, saves a line in the equip macro to hlp.body if you have nothing else,

    i used to think this was the way to go, but after i saw that mithra tanking as rdm/war with af2, i started to get a better understanding of what really mattered in the tanking business for rdm. in terms of subbing nin, the hp will not help you much, since you're probably going to macro out for af2 body. if you don't have af2 body, i'd probably say that crimson is the second best option for the body slot, in my opinion.

    Since I don't have AF2 body (fucking shit never drops), I use AF+1 body for the spell interruption down and a bit of boost in MP. I'm sure there's probably something better I could use but meh... 12% I like to think helps me some times. >.>;

    I tanked kirin/mini Seiryu yesterday helping out a friend's LS. They were desperate for tanks and I was the only one with w.leg. Was a lot of fun :D I couldn't hold hate for shit after minis were dead, but while they were killing minis I was kiting Kirin (and later miniSeiryu) like a champ. ^^b

    We started to experiment with RDM/NIN tanks after seeing how efficient it is from the leading LS in my server handling Cerebus, Tiamat and even Bahamut V2.

    Starting off with Proto-Ultima. Mountain (RDM/NIN) main tank all the way to 20% with 2 PLD/NIN eating CB towards the end for the alliance.

    Spam Sleep, SleepII, Bind, Blind. Tonnes of Haste% as well as +enmity gear.

    All in all, very interesting indeed and a huge success. Will be testing it out on wyrms soon.
    Setup will be RDM RDM RDM BRD BRD WHM for tank PT.
    Imo it is similar to a PLD with unlimited access to MP, cure bombing alliance for that extra bit of hate.
