I'm not touching this until it comes out and I get some decent reviews for it.
Preordered... then again I'm bias as I know four people who work at Sigil from previous online games who I still keep in touch with
I enjoy the game but don't know enough people currently with Beta Access to play the game withscrew playing the game with idiots

Friend and I did that on the last day of iRO beta in Prontera, we used up around 300 dead branches and shit all died within 3 mins.Originally Posted by Minions
I was really looking forward to this for awhile, then I read in a PC Gamer that the Dev's for it did not want to have any instances, at all. As well as something about thinking groups of players meeting in a dungeon and teaming upto kill a named mob, or gasp maybe even fighting over it, and all I could think of at that point was Fafnir or Ulli.
That pretty much right then and there killed my desire to ever play the game.
It's called conflict and interaction, something a MMO should have.Originally Posted by Fuuko
WoW dodges this aspect and becomes a communityless game... which is well ? boring. I bet you can name a lot more people on your FFXI server then you could ever on your WoW Server.
why is the special edition 100$
*Obligatory nothing beats pre-cu/pre-nge swg statement*
But yeah, I'll pretty much try any mainstream mmo -- EQ and EQ2 suck beyond compare imo, so I dunno about this one. People who hate on FFXI really don't understand how FFXI style and graphics >>>>>>>>>>> any other mmo. The only SOE game I'm looking forward to is God's and Heroes because I'm really into Mythology.
Probably has one of Aradunes public hairsOriginally Posted by Tekki

I'm into Mythology too, look 4 years of Latin and reading Ovid's Metamorphoses grew on me over time. Can you link me to said game? I've been itching for a good MMO/Online game since I can't get a fucking LOTR BETA INVITE gah >< :DOriginally Posted by Groovebox

I like mythology too, but I'm an idiot, soo...
I'mma stick with this since most of my friends are going to it, so I might as well follow~
(baaa~)
my brother is betaing this... he said its got a lot of glitches and it feels too much like WoW. But yeah he said its sort of a mix of DnD and WoW EQish elements thrown in there.
Overll id give it a 6/10 after playing it some myself too, of course this was beta... so who knows it might become entirely different.
If you actually think things like Ulli and Fafnir are the basis for the FFXI community you're an idiot. Refusing to even think about instances for part of the game just screams, to me, that the game will turn out almost exactly like FFXI. A game with a good community(maybe, pretty much depends on how much you can solo imho), with a totally fucked up and broken end game. Which is something I don't care to try again.Originally Posted by Vinen
If FFXI had more of its endgame instanced and added content much faster it would be the best MMORPG out there, as it stands its not and it is solely the fault of the Dev team failing to understand that camping for 8 hours for no gain is not fun, as well as seeming to be the only people in the world that actually work less than congress. And to me all that I have read about the game's Devs leads me to believe that it too will never reach its potential.
I agree. I think stuff like Fafnir and Ulli kill in game community more than anything, by creating so much conflict between players. My biggest complaint about FFXI, aside from RMT, would be that by design and nature of endgame, it pits linkshells against each other and in direct open conflict with each other, more than any cooperation or sense of community.
That isn't to say I dont like the game, the exact opposite, but is still one of my major complaints against it.
Looks like ass. Much like EQ2.
EQ2 = Great graphics, severe lack of creativity.
WoW = Shitty graphics, much more creative enviroments.
FFXI = I don't know why I'm still playing this game.
Graphics don't make a game, but if I didn't hear about this game from anyone's opinion I trust, then it's not important enough for me to consider.
EQ1 never heard of an instance until after expansion number 4, and I didn't notice that much of guilds directly competing. That's mostly because of the way the gear progression worked though, and by the time I got to endgame (I wasnt even 60 until after PoP release), there was just enough high end stuff to keep the high end guilds from stepping on anyone else's content. Of course the downside was that gear progression pretty much hit a brick wall right thanks to all stats being hardcapped at 255 (355 with max level and full "merits", which only raised the cap btw).
The point is, it's not impossible to keep the conflict down if you don't force them to steal each other's mobs. Instances are just an easy way to do that without trying to crank out better gear every 6 months.
I have the t-shirt in your icon.Originally Posted by Groovebox
Vanguard I think needs some more work. Like Ertyu wrote, two of my friends said it's really unpolished though the community might make up for it if it gets lots of people. (lolFFXI)
