Would someone mind telling me what happened after House blew out his candle? For some reason the local news interrupted and I didn't get to see the very end.
The only thing that seemed a little contrived to me was the whole House's doctor is actually just like House whose father also dies thus giving them some connection that apparently also helps contribute to House's attitude change at the end.
I thought it was great for a season opener. Something different from what we've seen before, but still including a healthy dose of jackass from House (at least during the first half).
Not much happened afterward, House made every laugh by putting his face in the cake, made a crack saying he doesn't want his roommate to hug him since people think they're gay. Then hugs him anyway. Then his roommate decides he wants to get better and asks a nurse to bring him his meds.
Amazing season opener. Loved every minute of it. Possibly up there in my favorite episodes actually.
With out a doubt the single best Season premiere I've ever seen.
If I hadn't been on my phone I would've sent you a pm.
Thought they would do something with the doctor / nurse / chick looking like Amber.
It didn't feel like traditional House, I can't say I disliked it as a season opener but I'm looking forward to House getting back to his right place.
God I love this show. No more words are needed.
The previous finale coupled with this opener is the best House has ever been, in my opinion. Some of the criticism about it not being "traditional House" or needing to get "back to normal" just reminds me of Futurama:

You're doing it wrong.
Was it just me or was anyone else half expecting to see CTB and Cutner on the buss in that last scene?
Missed the episode today, anyone know where I can watch it streamed? >_<
All in all I thought it was a good season opener. I was surprised that CTB and Cutner weren't on the bus at the end. The episode had a good pace to it and there really wasn't a moment where it kind of dragged out which happens a lot with two hour premieres/finales. I thought it was funny the chick from Bourne Identity was House's love interest. Looks like it's going to be another great season if this is any indication.
If you were anything like my wife and I, you spent the entire first 90 minutes trying to figure out what the twist or catch was.
The German chick is a plant!
No, she's a hallucination!
House is gonna steal the car!
He's gonna save black guy's dad!
One of the patients has a medical problem disguised as a behavioral illness!
German chick's husband will show up!
No, she'll leave her husband!
I bet Zach Braff will have a cameo!
It was hard to watch this episode after being trained so well by the writers to wait for the epiphany or revelation that creates the life-saving climax, but it was really great to watch Hugh Laurie flex his acting chops as much as he did. And, the best part is all of the wild speculation that will happen between weeks, because there's no way House will just jump right in to business as usual. He has to be phased back in, and that presents us with a lot of opportunities for story development.
