Cuddy leaving the hospital would be the easiest way to continue the series, it's already been shown how difficult it would be for House to be fired due to his tenure, it's feasible that Cuddy would choose to leave herself if she were unable to get rid of him, however it is incredibly unlikely that the board would opt for House to stay over her, he's been described many times an an expensive liability with a low work turnover.
Having the series move to a brand new setting would work too, most of House's team would probably follow him, Foreman is so accustomed to House's ways that he's unable work under somebody else, Chase rejoined House's team by choice, and actually seems to enjoy his position, Thirteen want's to be around House so that he can fulfil his promise to her when the time comes, and Taub may want to separate his wife and girlfriend and therefore take one with him. Wilson remaining at Princeton is a great way to reduce his screen time (as has already been speculated here).
The only approach I cannot see working is House being an outside consultant to the team, a major lynch-pin to the series success is his bedside manner, and the writers will be trying to retain that aspect.
So I might have missed a scene possibly in the last few episodes, but is Taub's ex pregnant with HIS child? Because it's been awhile since they split, and I don't remember seeing them hooking up afterwards. At first I assumed it was someone elses but then Taub didnt look angry so it must be his. Still confused at that part, although I don't exactly doubt Taub hooking up with his ex + cute nurse on the side.
Didn't even think this was the season finale until I read this thread, awesome ending but it really seems more like a series finale thing, what with him hiding in some tropical island. Will be curious how next season looks but it should really be the last if they're getting rid of Cuddy. Alot of House's awesomeness involves her in some fashion through the series.
come to think of it, kinda sad that taub drama was the best drama of the season finale. nothing against taub, more of a reflection on the fact that house/cuddy/wilson drama failed.
Taub's story seems great because House's vicodin addiction has gotten really old now, it was beaten to death already, and didn't really need to come back.
Kinda funny how addictions seem to do that...
I guess the writers are simply trying to return House to the status quo of seasons 1-5 to recoup lost viewers. The fact is "House on vicodin" is less interesting then Taub's dilemma (which was the point I was trying to make, albeit poorly worded).
Maybe I should've elaborated further, cause the way you're describing the story seems a lot more plausible. I mostly meant I REALLY don't see him forcing his team out to wherever the hell he's at to reform a diagnostics department, just way too huge of a plot reach IMO. I could definitely see him chillin' there though and doing consults for the team back in NJ all the while Cuddy still running the hospital just off camera. Would leave him open to come back to NJ mid-season to spice it up but there arises the problem of Cuddy not being in any god damn scenes...
Who knows how they're going to do this though with Cuddy absent and Wilson even having very limited face time...
no more cuddy next season it looks like
...
Wtf I dont even...
At all? She's gotta at least appear in an episode...
Sure is windy up in here.
Finally watched the finale on my plane today, awesome episode. To the person that said it's going to be akin to royal pains at the beginning, I think that's exactly the angle they are going to work, almost making fun of it/paying homage. I feel like they've done that to a few shows previously, but it just seems like something they would do. The writers for this show are ridiculously awesome at putting a drama together, the way the episode was put together (with the flashbacks randomly) was perfect. And finally, to the person saying they are grasping at straws for higher ratings: fucking lol. House has lost "ratings" due to people missing episodes and watching them online, ratings is an archaic bullshit method to measure how well a show is doing. The past few seasons of House have probably been the best drama ever on TV (although I'm biased).
^House was ‘on the bubble’ quite a while this season, its fate was not dependent on ratings but rather on finances. Is this show viable to go on for another 20+ episode season?
