I tend to agree. While House has proven in the past he will do anything, risk anything/anyone to satisfy his puzzle solving fetish, giving the gun back was a little too over the top in my opinion. It would have been more believable I think if he were to do something like lie to the SWAT team by telling them that the guy took the gun back and thus he would be holding the sick guy hostage instead until he got his solution.

I also find it slightly unbelievable that no one was able to force the gun out of his hands at any time. There were many instances when he was taking the painful drugs, or when he was showing weakness in his muscles at one point I think, or countless other times I noticed where he could have been easily overpowered.

That said, I still enjoyed the episode overall, especially 13. Just had to suspend disbelief a little more than normal at parts.

I dunno. He has this insane sense that he has to be right, and I'm sure his curiosity WAS piqued.

See, the way I see it, House is a character of an archetype where he see a problem and must solve it, but to keep the character real, they have to stay away from the archetype sometimes. This is a situation where a person who didn't have a death wish would have stayed away. House doesn't have a death wish. They let the archetype overpower the character in this episode and made House seem less like a rounded character and more flat.

This is what I was expecting. I guess they had to keep it the way they did or else 13 wouldn't have had her breakthrough.

Ya I was thinking that too. That or he could have told 13 and the other guy to go before he gave the gun back, and just kept himself hostage. From what we've seen of house so far, I can't believe he'd endanger one of his fellows like that.

Really? He dosed Wilson with speed, gave Foreman Legionella and just to embarrass an old classmate, self-induced migranes. The gun may seem 'too House for House' but it wasn't completely out of left field.

I didn't think giving the gun back was "way too House". I think at that point house didn't think the guy was a huge danger. He had let almost everyone go and was simply pleading for answers. House can understand that mindset (which I think was the big message of the day) and figured the gun would do two things. First, to let them continue trying to find out what is wrong with him and second to show the guy House wanted to help him just as much. The 2nd for most people would have calmed the guy down and made him less likely to use the gun, making the gun not much of a weapon. In the end, this proved to mostly be the case too, as the guy didn't end up forcing 13 to take the final dose of medicine.

And remember, most of the crap 13 had to endure in the episode was because of her. Hell she self-injected most of the stuff before House had finished trying to argue with the guy.

I loved the look on the face of the kid that wanted to stay when House gave the gun back. That and the drawer at the end were the best shots of the episode. I was also rolling at the 'never farther south than florida' line.

I don't know why I thought that, but to many T.V shows try to pull off the 'dream' thing as if it is a good device.

I know that this is pointless, but I don't care how retarded and unrealistic it was; if they retconned all of seasons 4/5 and went back to Chase/Cameron/Foreman I would be soooo happy. It's either that or get rid of the characters altogether, but this shoe-horning of the old team into episodes is getting worse and worse.

Gonna have to disagree with you Bagel, Chase and Cameron were getting boring. The new team is multi-dimensional, I just wish there was more Kutner.

Yeah, I certainly approve of the team switch. Imo the old team is a bit too active in current cases. Crazy stuff like the last two weeks I'm fine seeing them around. But they stick them in a bit too often.
