When my LS used to do it, it one time spammed 6 in a row. the 5th wasn't stunned because the stun timer was not up. needless to say, 3 of the 5 stunners stunned the 6th one. Then it went and never spammed that many in a row.

Back in the day, I had to walk up a mountain for 3hours to get to Cerb, and back then we could only stun with Weapon Bash and Flat Blade.Originally Posted by Krandor

New plan for Cerb 6 man is using full fire resist setup at and under 25%. Gates for 300 damage isn't that hard to deal with. If you want to completely avoid gates, you will need at least a 7th person, a 2nd main dark skill stunner.
Ideally the party would be:
NIN/DRK
NIN/DRK
RDM/DRK
WHM/BLM
BRD/WHM
RDM/DRK
With the 7th being a DD (we had a SMN) or another stun. Or you could just go double bard. A WHM/DRK might work, but because of resists you would need both NINs and the WHM stunning a single gates. But I like ES Slow a lot better anyways.
The LS I'm in has been working on trying to lower the #s. At this point, we pretty much have it down to that exact 6 man PT setup you have except 1 of the RDMs is a second BRD + 2 stunners in a seperate party (so 8 total for the minimum we need). Usually kills are around 10-12 members now. The problem with this setup, though, is that NIN/DRK DD is a lot of swings per minute. Gates is definately a TP move and there is a noticable difference when the NINs stop DDing.
So recently we've been trying to use a DD strategy that attempts to limit TP. You can never completely avoid gates, but you can definately lower the # of times it uses and make things easy on you. On that 9 man kill I posted about earlier, we had the NIN/DRKs melee the first 75%, which makes the first part go by relatively quickly (30ish minutes if you use souleater). After this point, they switched to full evasion/holding gear and we had SMN attacks and BLM Elemental Seal damage finish it. The idea being you would only feed it 15ish TP per 400-500 damage.
Unfortunately Cerberus definately has some type of TP regen because our tanks would not get hit and it would still use a TP move about every 2 BPs. One possible solution is to have the NINs bring fire resist gear. You have 1 stunner watch gates exclusively. When he stuns GoH, the RDM/DRK watches for gates momentarily. If another GoH occurs and is stunned (no stunners left now), the tanks quickly switch to fire resist gear for 10-15 seconds. When your first stunner is ready to cast again, go back to your normal gear set.
NIN/DRK
BRD
BRD
SMN
RDM/DRK
Stunner
is probably a good setup (or I guess 2 NINs and 1 BRD instead, my LS loves double BRD and you can definately solo tank Cerberus on NIN with 2 BRDs). Would definately be a difficult and pretty long fight with SMN being the only DD at the 25% mark.
Another solution is throw 1-2 good Aegis PLDs + Ghorn BRD and I'm sure they'd find a way to win.
I might add its nice to see people take pride in killing mobs nowadays. If only some people realized there's other ways to kill mobs than spamming Cure V on anything that takes damage, they'd bring their game to another level also.
Its nice to see actual strats and advanced forms of fighting mobs pop up. Unorthodox subjobs and mains being the norm, and rediculous party combinations actually working. (OMG 0 WHMs at a Cerb? Who will Cure V?)
If it has TP, it doesnt matter how many ppl are wailing away on it. If it GoH's once, and it gets stunned, it still has TP, and it will use another TP attack instantly. The amount of ppl fighting it is completely irrelevant.Originally Posted by Seditedi
Definately agree, which is why in the end, I think you have to rely on some kind of fire resist setup or magic damage down (won't get enough unless it's Aegis PLD) to take that GoH in a very low man situation (unless you plan on some extreme luck to win). 1-2 Stuns can at least delay the inevitable and allow the tanks some time to adjust into the proper gear though. Fire resist definatley does work when we tested it. We got alot of 80 damage ones with 341 resist and shell 4. The burn effect is also resisted a very good deal of the time.Originally Posted by NynJa
Yea, I was a little unclear, just meant to say with less people its gonna get less TP and use less TP moves even though it can still repeat GoH after a stun.Originally Posted by NynJa
9 man Cerb is a bit impressive, would still like to see 7-8 man!
Wabo Linkshell of unicorn did a 8 man cerby recently
(thers 9 people in the ss, one joined for algol lot)

Dont mind the rest of the thread lol
I don't think non-members can see that thread. And it was 8 for ~50%, then Tae came from there til the end.Originally Posted by Seraphise

I don't recall the War/Nin ever pulling hate. Even when 1 of the Pld/Nin DC'd during the fight the other didn't lose hate.Originally Posted by Kaeko
We also had the Brd switching between parties. For the last 25% we switched from 2x Ballad to Ballad + March for Raz's stun recast. All stunners also had Haste as well. The Gates that made it through was due to lag and not stun timers. Although we didn't get any of the 5-6 in a row spams.
Congrats on the kill! I think 2x Nin/Drk would be the optimal tanks when trying with 6 or less since the stuns are very nice to have.
How was the Blm damage overall? For our fight it didn't seem to do very much which we got a good laugh from.
We had a NIN stand within GoH range during another LS's fight and @341 resist, he went 4/4 on resisting to under 100 damage (burn 3 times). We also had him go down a bit to around 300ish and he still resisted to 1/2 damage at least. I think we had a total of 11 GoHs hit him that day and he at least had a partial resist every time.
One very very cheesy method I think would work is...
NIN/DRK
BRD
BRD
WHM/DRK
RDM/DRK
SMN
Use the SMN as the DD. The 2 mages with Stun don't even stun GoH, just stun for shadows help. Then make the NIN tank in mostly fire resist gear in tandum with normal holding gear. Then have both BRDs run around in full fire resist gear as well so they dont get hurt by GoH too when they are singing in range. We were fiddling with setups and the good thing about NIN fire resist setups is that most of the resist is on a certain few pieces...
Barfira 120 (on a well merited/equiped WHM)
Carol 50
Suz Boots 50
Cerb Mantle 10
Ruby Rings 18
Triumph Ears 22
Jeweled Collar 10
Water Belt 20
That gives 300 Resistance to Fire and should give 1/2 to 1/4 resists pretty often. This also leaves the Head, Hands, and Legs slots for Turban, Dusk, and Byakko for 13% Haste. With double marches and Haste spell this gives either 49 or 50% Haste, hitting the recast cap on Utsusemi. The body and Main slots are still open for -phy damage gear for about -29%. Another switch could be ditch the triumph earrings and use bat earrings + blind pots and use a neptune's staff. Cerberus is totally blind with evasion setup.
Because you're not stunning the WS and not feeding it a lot of TP, it wont use it that many times. One problem with this idea of taking all the GoHs, though, is that GoH wipes shadows. I'd really love to try some of these things but my LS usually just brings what we have to kill Cerb and doesn't try to mess around with it so we usually end up with 10-12 and don't have to bother with this.
I was editting my previous post with a reply to your previous question about the War when you posted, so just a heads up so you don't think I forgot about it.
Very nice results from the Fire Resist setup. Would it be worth it to intentionally let Gates through occassionally when both tanks have their Ni timers up?
Also, Malflame Ring can replace one of the Ruby Rings for an addition 1 Fire Resist (plus it's alot cheaper).
We generally never let GoH go off on purpose. I can only think of 1 case a long time ago where we've let on go on purpose and that was b/c another LS was intentionally crowding us so we just let it go to wipe them and benedictioned afterwards (NIN/DRKs still didn't lose hate after the Benediction too). To me, the biggest concern would be wiping shadows, especially if you were to try doing this with 1 NIN tank only.
Another setup that is probably more ideal would be using Aegis PLDs (yea I know we all don't have 5 Aegis PLDs). I think COR's magus roll is pretty strong MDB and with aegis and maybe resentment cape etc. you could get a consistant 50+% reduction in damage which is laugable to a PLD. The BRDs should still use that fire resist gear though, not like they need CHR+ unless it's elegy (which you just spam from out of range).
Cerb Mantle or Lamia Mantle+1 would be better since SE is lame and has it so the Region items like Resentment Cape don't work in the ToAU areas.Originally Posted by Kaeko
In that setup you could also use Dream Shroud from Smn for more MDB. not sure what the amount it, but every bit helps.
in reguards to the lamia mantle, does magic defense bonus work like -magic damage? i.e., +4 magic defense bonus is -4% magic damage?
off topic:
Does anyone have the link to that LS that killed Jorm with 12 people. I had seen it before and wasn't sure if it was in these forums, I tried search and this thread came up with a few others I didn't want to start a new thread. Maybe I missed one. Anyhow it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
