    I looked over the 2 ss's I posted.. 47 and 48 (shown here)

    http://www.ffxi-poisoned.com/jorm-with-6/jorm48.jpg

And here's what you can tell.. in 47 it did touchdown.. check the time in game..

in 48 it was just taking off.... now i'm too lazy to do it right now because im running out the door.. but figure out how long it took between down>up.. and I bet it was < 90s (seal sleep 2).. . it's 60's for a seal sleep 1 (but who does that?)..

Factor in jorm's normal ground timing, maybe a bloodweapon because it probably did it although I don't remember that particular downing of the 500 .

One thing you can note in 48, when it took off.. is right before one of my shadows went away.. which means it was clearly swinging at me.. the other thing to note is my ichi and ni timers.. showing that both had recently been used.. I think that's decent proof of not sleeping.. I hope so, it's all I happen to have for those screenshots

well i have to say that killing jorm with just six was one of the highlights of my FF career. Big thx to caudle and sonix for giving me the chance good job all. We had a few hairy moments but like always we prevailed.

Hate to nitpick, but the horn gives 2/tic extra -per ballad- which comes to 4 total. So instead of 6/tic (including refresh), they were getting 10/tic. The ability to stack MP regen like that is more unbalancing in many situations than dual wielding Ridills would be.

In long fights like this one, what matters is your regen, because if there was no such thing as mana and all spells were free, anyone could kill anything with way fewer people. Paladins would endlessly cure themselves, then you just need a few DD and anything will die fast. So the big difference is in how much MP you get back. Let's say your alliance has to spend 1200 mp per minute to keep yourselves alive (a decent assumption in harsh circumstances). In a party of six, with just Refresh, 3/tic would give you 72 mp/min each, and you'd run out very quickly. With 6/tic from dual Ballads, you're at 144/min each, which halves your MP debt per minute. With auto-refresh and a Parade Gorget, a PLD has now evened out his share.

So now you're dealing with an almost even situation, you can stay alive, but you have no mana to do damage. Now, bring in Gjallarhorn. You're sitting on 4 mp/tic suddenly which you can now convert into pure damage. The upshot is that 4 mp/tic for 3.5 hours is enough for three BLMs to blow down Jormungand. That's *quick math* about 18,000 MP that you wouldn't have without the horn. The longer you go, the better the horn is.

Naturally, the skill of the players needs to be top-notch. With that assumed, the Gjallarhorn is the key here, because it takes a delicately balanced situation and pushes it hard in the players' favor, enough to win if given enough time.

Edit: So with SV, double Gjallar ballads give 14/tic? Does that mean that the doubling effect stacks with the +2, making it +4 per song? I always thought it was doubled first, then the +2 was added on, making it +10 total.

Again, I never knocked how big of a part the horn plays in a fight like that... But I just think it'd still be possible without one, and all things considered there's no reason it shouldn't be. Would it be harder? Yes. Would it be slower? Yes. But impossible? I don't think so.

Didnt have time to read the whole thread but you guys are talking about how the horn is a big impact on the fight, is Aegis even a big impact on the fight like the horn was? Probably not as an important but just wanted to hear your opinion on it.

Aegis is great really but in this fight it wasn't the make or break by any means.. as stated earlier by others, the effects of aegis can be mostly replaced by magic - gear.. so.. no.. Could we have done this w/o aegis? Yes.. it wouldn't have changed much.. the horn made a huge difference though.. but we've had a relic horn in this ls for so long now i can't imagine having to play without one .. it's sooooooooo nice

    Our only horn quit sadly.

Another two are in the process of being upgraded, but it'll be quite a while still.

dude lol you aren't kidding.. half of us had to piss SO fucking bad.. our bard tossed up troubadour ballads and ran to take a piss.. the rest of us didn't have that luxury.. I ran out of water at around 50%.. I was dying for a drink.. I felt like cartman in that "WOW" episode of south park.. it was a blast though, even through the physical punishment lol..

and.. at 80% our teamspeak server died for 30 fucking minutes.. which is when things got a little wacky.. it's not that we needed ts2 to communicate or tell anyone what to do.. but when were on it we all bullshit and laugh and have a good time.. it helps keep everyone relaxed and focused.. not panicing.. so.. that kinda pissed us off, but it came back so it's all good

Yes Bk, it was him. No one was dualboxing during that fight.

Edit: And sadly no, there was no pole.

Don't you mean the extra 4MP/tick? The real reason it comes into question about whether or not it's possible without a Gjallarwhore is because when you get adds, time is of the essence. When you're just trying to damage Jorm sure you can take all the time you need, but when you've got 3 adds, you can't. They already had enough luck in their favor with the 0 roars, but trying to stack that with the luck of never getting too many adds and not having the MP to down them instantly is starting to push it I think.

Again, not to beat a dead horse but, if you dont give it tp on the ground you wont get roared, or winged, or breathed or any of that nonsense We also had quite a few adds, not much you can do about that.

I just dont think that its reasonable to maintain for such a lengthy fight without the ghorn. None the less, i'd like to see someone prove me wrong

Very nice accomplishment, congrats on the kill!

Wonder what the next low number HNM kill will be.
