    Evasion and facing a mob

Haven't seen a discussion about this anywhere so I thought it may be interesting.

It seems as though your evasion suffers drastically if you are running away from a mob or not facing it.

Any idea as to how much the evasion down "effect" is? I'm guessing it's around 50%.

    Anyway, food for thought.

AFAIK, the only defensive skill that matter on engaging are shield, parry and guarding.

Evasion rate stay constant regardless of direction, it just seem that it suffers drastically because odds are the mob that you are running away from is more than capable to kick your ass.

This should probably be moved to the other section.

Shield and Guarding can still proc when not engaged, you do have to be facing the mob tho.

This has nothing to do with engaging. Try it yourself. Best way to test this is take a thf to Boyada tree and link a bunch of EP mobs. Have the thf face the pack and then face away. You will find that the thf evades much more when facing the mobs.

The only reason I posted it here is because noone in my LS really knows and I wanted to see if any of you had any thoughts.

Do you parse the results or even count it? If not, then your experiment is invalid. Eyeballing, gut feeling means nothing....

Best way to do it would be to take a mob, hold it while facing and then turn away. Go test it out tho if you want, make sure you count up to 300 or so attack rounds facing each way.

Thought I had seen it happen. Maybe I just guarded as I was engaging or something and it showed the guard before I pulled out weapons. Guard happens so rarely for me tho, never really notice.

I know for certain you can Shield Block when not engaged. Not sure why it wouldn't work for Guard.

Yeah I'm pretty sure you can't guard while not engaged, your shield is still "equipped" when not engaged, your H2H weapons arn't if you know what I mean.

You can even shield block while resting. The animation is kinda humerous since you stand up, shield block, then go back to resting as if nothing happened.

    This is sorta true though.

There's a reason you run away from something that aggrod/went wrong soloing.

You don't need to be engaged to block with your shield.

Eh...my mistake on shield then, it's been at least 2 years since the last time I touch a job that wears shield, much less has shield skill.
