Most of the good ones have been covered already, but it must be restated 1000 times over that anyone who owns a PS1 or any of the later PS consoles should own Castlevania : SOTN.

wtf Alpha 3 > Alpha 2, especially if it's the PS1 version with World Tour mode.

No argument about SF3 3rd Strike being the best SF game though, even if Gill is the most annoying boss ever made.

Yeah you just said SFA3 was better than SFA2. Nothing you say holds any more water.

Alpha two gave you many things to completely customize your playing style. If you wanted to adapt to something you could do it easily. I'm going to custom combo this guys face this round. Next round, I'll shinku hadoken him to death. Maybe I'll mix up. I'll alpha counter when he least expects it.
Alpha three took that way from you, when they decided to split things up into styles. One could argue that yeah, it'll make you a better player cause you have to watch what you do since you can't do this or that while in this style. Bottom line, it takes away from my freedom and limits me. In comparison to Alpha @ the controls felt laggy. the story was convoluted and required you to beat it with all the characters to understand anything that was going on. Finally, the musical change was the drop that spilled the bucket. Ot would've been nothing, but that is what broke me.

Personally, for me, if I had Civ II on a desert island, I would be happy forever. I never got into Civ III (haven't even bought IV) and Alpha Centauri is meh, but I still play the hell out of Civ II on airplanes (complete install on my laptop).

TS2 and TS:FP are some of the most fun FPS I've ever played, partially because of the many different styles of play you can do. The other two would be Goldeneye and Halo (original), it's hard to pick a winner out of those 4 (3 if you count both TS as one game).

Off topic, But I saw someone post Hitman and it got me thinking again. Was anyone else pissed when they found out Jason Statham would not be playing the Hitman in the movie that's supposedly being made? I mean seriously, what the fuck. That role IS him.

I stopped caring about Alpha 3 when all I saw was a bunch of JP fags picking V-ism characters. It's cool seeing 99 hit unstoppable juggles the first few times, but then it gets old. "What else is there?" keeps popping up in my brain when I watch match videos for A3. I like watching Guilty Gear and 3rd Strike match videos more than anything. At least those are interesting.

The vast majority of you are North American I'm assuming, so most of you won't give a fuck, but football (soccer >_< ) games need a mention.

For actually playing, the Pro Evolution Soccer range from Konami kicks the shit out of anything else.

Then for a football management sim, look no further than Championship Manager up until the development team split with their publisher, Eidos (who kept the CM brand while Sigames the developer kept all the code/engine/database etc), and since then Football Manager (global name) and/or Worldwide Soccer Manager (US name).

The CM+FM series of games have taken more hours of my gaming life than anything else. I'm talking since the Amiga days. I've been addicted to those damn games for nigh on 15 years.

If any of you are into sports management sims, Sigames make both an Ice Hockey and a Baseball sim. I've not tried either, but with their track record they're probably amazing.

Since the SNES is by far and away the best console, easily still to this day, it gets the first list. These are some I have, and obviously if I have it, it's a must-have for me. The SNES's list of classic titles include, but isn't limited to, the best game in the Zelda series, the best Squaresoft RPG (whether I'm talking about Chrono Trigger, FF3, or Secret of Mana is debatable, but it's definately on the SNES)

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
    Chrono Trigger
    Secret of Mana
    Super Mario World
    Super Mario Kart
Lemmings (yes, holy shit Lemmings awesome game)
    Megaman X
    Megaman X2
    Megaman X3

(How did the Megaman X series go so long without being posted? Those were retarded amounts of fun)

The DK series was fun too, but it's been mentioned; it's not as stellar as the ones I had to repeat because they're worth it for enternity. I have FF2 and FF3 (2 copies of FF3 for some reason) but I've never played them.

For the FPS debate, Goldeneye set the standard, but Halo took it to new heights. Both were brilliant games, but I'd give the nod to Halo, barely.

*looks into cabinet for some names and to further fuel the nostalgia*

    NES:

    Tetris
    The Legend of Zelda
    Mario Bros./Duck Hunt
    Mario Bros. 3
Donkey Kong Arcade (somehow still works)
    Tecmo Bowl
