The Camarillio, CA-based company holds patent 6,850,221, filed back in September 1997 and issued to Interlink in February 2005, which details "a portable, trigger operated pointing device for use with an electronically responsive system, the pointing device comprising: a housing for location at least partly between a first finger and a thumb of a user's hand."

Oh shit why not sue remote control making companies while they are at it!

The IR port isin't in the Wii-mote though, it's in the "sensor bar"
There's LEDs on each side that are always on and the wiimote captures that.

When I glanced at the drawing this morning it seemed like the ir transmitter in this device in in the hand device... therefor it doesn't exactly work the same... plus wii-mote has built in speaker, memory and rumble...

I'm no lawyer so I don't know what works and what doesn't so... whatever, this company blows for taking money away from nintendo and whoever decided to sue should get kicked in the balls

Not to rerail, but according to the industry newsletter I get, companies do this kind of silly lawsuit sometimes even though it can't win, just to get some name recognition after someone else makes a similar but better product.

If you read the patent, it's the purest bullshit.

In the purest sense, the Wii remote is not a "pointing device" any more than a camera is. It just has IR sensors in the front, and software analysis is used to track features in the field of view and translate the motion of those features to directionality of the device.

Basically, they want Nintendo to pay them to shut up and go away. You can tell because they ask for a jury trial instead of just a judge reading the facts and rendering a decision. Why? Because it's easier to hoodwink random schmoes into thinking that the patent applies.
