been doing assault with 3 people now, our 4th is on vaction for about 3 weeks now. Just hit sergeant last night and have a hell of alot of fun. Don't let the six people myth limitation fool you, you can definitely pull these off with less than that.

I said alot of areas cant be cleared with small sets (trio) which is true sametime some areas are very time limited can barly win with 6 unless you have a tough set with strongest jobs

Thats wrong though - most assaults are easily winnable with three. You do need the setup though. Win the ones you can win, repeat for the ones you cant. I would say 4/5 assaults across the board are trioable..

Yeah, I'm Sergeant Major and, though we're trying to help some others rank up at the moment, only 3 of us total are SM rank. So trio is definitely possible. We started with more people then some just fell behind when they haven't logged in for a while at a time.

OP seems to be saying you can rank alllllll the way up just through spamming Excavation Duty?

I've always hated the hassle of assault (it's simple/easy enough, but I'm busy and there had been no worthwhile rewards for me.) But now they're dangling Ice Gauntlets allllll the way out at SM; very clever SE.

had to rank up from rank 6 to 7 and get 16/25 point for next rank up by just doing ex duty becouse no one shout for high tier assaults and i did tryed alot of times to shout for higher tiers after 3days and 30hour i couldnt make a pt of 3 to trio some so meh

instead of shouting for shitty pickup groups, make a static ?

maybe if you read this thread you will know thats my friends quited and i got stuck at rank 6 and had to spam shity ex duty from rank 6 to 7 + rest of the points with pick up partys

some areas like Orichalcum Survey even with 6 you can lose and we did becouse it depends on pure luck same goes with mamok tier1 area

Lebros Supplies is too freaking hard even with 10 guys >.>

Requiem and Extermination is very time limited with 6 we lost both of them our first try and second time won with like 2-3min left

Yes alot of assaults get easier after you do them 2-3times but for the first time its not that easy specialy when your pt members dont have strongest jobs or gear

Uh, I've cleared every assault except 2 with 3 people up to S-rank. The SM rank ones we've been going with 4.

A lot of the more difficult Assaults with small numbers have absolutely nothing to do with fighting ability, and everything to do with planning/coming prepared ability.

still there is chance to lose at some areas with 6 even if your prepared for people whos doin it for the first time

Of course i agree with everyone that most areas are trioable with decent jobs/gear/skill and that what i was saying ;/

Gonna have to disagree with Ragnarok being behind. Most of my LS is at least tier 5. The thing is most people have small set parties. No one shouts... shouting is a great way to pick up complete idiots and assure nothing ever gets done. It's easy to form a set and meet twice a week for an hour or so.

Every single assault can be cleared with 3, while some assaults such as supplies (both the imp, and Lebros Caverns ones) and azure experiments seem more luck then skill, they are still doable with 3. Going with more than 3 just makes life easier but is definitely not a requirement.

Repeating EX duty like what most people do to rank up will require 250 run to get rank 10 now count the days where you miss your tags or fail or maintence and thats almost a year

I did Extermination three times last night with 5 people: NIN, WAR, DRG, SMN, RDM. No Ridills, no Kikokus, finished every run with 7 minutes to spare. Random group as well, no seasoned assault vets.

I've trio'd every Assault up to Sergeant(just got the S badge today).

Jobs we have available are:

RDM WHM BRD NIN MNK
WHM RNG
Everything but PLD (PLD66, Maat's cap)

Generally we go as MNK MNK WHM to stuff that requires fighting, NIN NIN WHM or NIN RDM WHM to escort stuff. Haven't had any real issues with a trio except for Troll Fugitives in Lebros Cavern, we just didn't have enough damage on it.

A guy in my linkshell is SM rank by spamming lower tier assaults with one of the guys in my Assault static (who ranked up normally) for points. Getting a static is definitely the best way to go if you plan on ranking up quickly in Assault.

My static did repeat same area to get SM rank as a pt of three
Periqia - Lv5 (2x gaiters with sj thf)
Ilrusi - Lv2 (2x blm/rdm + rdm/whm)
Lebros - Lv1 (2x blm/rdm + war/nin)
Mamool - Lv2 (war brd rdm)
Leujaum - Lv1 (war brd rdm)

we only did rank up mission 5 times till C rank, then gave up since we needed points while waiting SE to unlock new rank (since when the game only has rank SuperP). each of us already has 8-9 pieces of 20k gears. even brd already get her ballad+1 instrument lol. yep im still doing assault for my 4th yigit part.

Aside from getting yourself gear and having something different and interesting to experience, most assault items are sellable. If you've aquired all the gear you'd like from an area your free to sell anything you can buy with points from then on. This is especially nice for those people who perhaps don't have other means (or time) to make money. The items dont sell as high as they used to due to many people owning the items and the economy plummeting. At least on my server assault items sell in the 100-500k range which is nice pocket change for anyone (especially in this economy). Of course the key and the only thing to make it worthwhile is a static. The concept of Assault is to be a quick activity and shouting in whitegate for three hours doesn't cut it.

It's really not that hard to get through the assaults, all the way up to SM. My original static broke before we were through the SP rank missions and since then I've just been doing whatever's come up, or more recently been doing them with one friend and shouting for a third or occasionally finding a known third that will come with us. Sure it kinda sucks picking up a moron who'll lose the assault for you, but it really doesn't happen that much and the only missions we havn't beaten with 3 are Lebros Supplies and Supplies Recovery (the Leujaoam Sanctum assault with lots of imps). On the whole Assault is pretty easy, certainly not something you need omgrelicsandridills for, and there are plenty of fun, quick assaults that are stealth/puzzle based (Evade & Escape comes to mind) that you can do with any combo of jobs and no gear at all.

Its really sad. Such a well designed and fun activity is overlooked because it doesnt have omgasmic (ex) items.

It's not overlooked, it's just not well designed or fun.

Breaking Morale is decent. The gem stealing one is decent. The rest are pretty much do them once and forget about them. No skill, no challenge, no fun... if there had been a reward people would at least grit their teeth and soldier on through regardless.
