JoL- tanking subjob

I'm a pld with the following subs available for tanking JoL: /war, /nin, /whm, /drk.

Can anyone advise me on which works the best? Co-tank will be a pld/war (or he could do pld/drk if its really good). Also, any pointers on the fight would be appreciated. Sorry if this topic is a little specific for general endgame discussion, but I figure I'd get the best answers here.

always used /war until recently when some other plds in my ls started subbing brd. That works very well too, of course he owned most of the hate, so I wouldn't reccomend it unless all tanks subbing brd.

I would say /war is good, but /drk (played similarly to a nin/drk) could have some merit as well considering the way it's normally fought.

/BRD is probably the best overall, but since you don't have it, I'd do /WAR or /WHM and keep the tank pt with you for a couple GA spells.

I tanked it last night as RDM/BRD solo, it's really a damn easy thing to tank, try stacking MDB and -magic damage gear.

Try not to fall asleep, that can spell disaster.

Yeah, don't have bard sub yet >< Its gonna be next after sam sub is finished (for my drk that I'm levelling).

/drk seems to have potential, as I have a really good pld/nin build already.

Yes but, he doesn't have it leveled. Also, I think Phalanx 2 > Phalanx 1 sub? Not entirely sure, but if so I think /WHM might be better.

Correct use of a /drk sub also requires the use of Last Resort, Souleater, and Stun. You'll certainly be nearly invincible as pld/rdm, but attacks probably won't be focused on you either.

My LS used 2 PLD/BRDs who never lost hate the entire time. Spamming mazurak and other songs and the ability to heal, I was dropping curaga2s from 2 different accounts and never got hate. This includes a mini army of BLMs nuking and bursting.

With our strat, this is probably the best bet for hate locks.

Well he could start fight with Invinc, then just go at it from there. What I did yesterday was pop it, get it in position, Chainspell mazurka a good 20-25 times, then afk for 30 minutes not really afk. Obviously he won't have mazurka, but if he is constantly spamming throughout the fight, I don't think he will lose hate all too often.

Any decent PLD will have lots of enmity gear at JLo to begin with.
More spells don't mean anything if you can't get hate from their use.

The only things an RDM sub would have going for it are the following:

- Fast Cast on Flash. Maybe take a good 6-7 seconds off the spell recast.

- Stoneskin/Phalanx... which would absorb a good amount of damage on top of the MDB you have, but then you can't use your Cure spells as efficiently to generate hate.

I'm trying /drk. I'll let you know how it goes. Have a back up pld so if /drk completely fails he can jump in while I haul ass to safehold and switch subs.

Resisted spells still create hate, so I think /drk should be ok.

Probably the same way you would as a pld/nin lol?

Assuming the rest of the alliance hasn't suddenly stopped taking damage, I'm sure theres plenty of people to cure for hate still.

We've tried a different tank PT setup probably every time we've popped JoL, and what we have used the last few times and has worked best for us seems to be PLD + RDM tanks. Last pop was PLD/WHM + RDM/BRD, which even held hate off most of the DRKs and /DRKs during souleater.


Edit: Emergency maintainence today btw, let us know if they changed AV!
