JoL- tanking subjob

Forgot about charm, I was only charmed twice when I did it, and I think I got too close for them both. I also resisted one, where I was only charmed for about 2 seconds. Just let the WHM tank when I was charmed, staying out of range of melee and just soaking up magic.

Anyone tried War/whm on JoL? You get magic def bonus, curing spell, voke, and a ton of enmity too. Only difference between pld and war would be the -2mp refresh I guess (1gorget,1 trait)

Countless combinations are capable of tanking JoL, but I can't imagine any combo out-hating a mazurka-based tank. It also gives consistent hate; with cures you're dependent on JoL actually doing damage. When he goes into Dark mode, damage practically halts. Thunder and Fire mode have the most since there aren't any thunder of fire based enfeeble spells for JoL to waste time on.

Mazurka tanks also have the advantage of not needing to be in the main alliance to tank completely, though in order to really take advantage of this, you need a lot of people to show up (30+ usually).

And last time I tanked it I never saw any TP move go off other than boosting. We usually drag JoL to the edge of the culdesac and have tanks as far outside as they can get without being drawn in. The add party just drags the adds back towards the ??? location.

Can the way you guy's tank JoL, can tank the typical Yorvas as well? As in tank isn't right under the UFO, near the rim of the hood to prevent some TP moves?

No, normal Yovra only melee and intend to get next to you at every opportunity in order to do so.

Done properly JoL doesn't do any kind of meleeing, which negates the benefit that NIN main or /NIN tanking has over other combinations (i.e. Utsusemi). I think NIN could work but PLD would provide a much smoother overall tanking experience since everything a NIN could get from subjob PLD can get as well, while adding Flash, Cures, etc.

I've done WAR/WHM on JoL and was rather disapointed. You take slightly less base nuke dmg than a PLD, but you lose out on a lot of hate tools. Properly geared WHM/WAR would be better, more MDef traits and Flash/Voke/Curaga instead of just Voke/Curaga.

RDM/BRD or WHM/BRD make the best JoL tanks in my opinion, particularly RDM/BRD.

You really dont need HP to tank JoL, past a certain point. You need consistant ways to build hate (Mazurka being unparalleled), and you need a consistant mitigation or recovery of HP. RDM overall has the best combination of casting speed and recasts for mazurka, MP pool for curing, magic defense and magic defense equipment for reducing damage taken, phalanx and stoneskin for negating summons.

Ninja makes a comparatively shoddy tank for JoL. There are many much better options. Bard/WHM makes a better than for JoL than Nin/anything even, provided they have proper attire. The reason for this is that more than 50% of his spells are AoE of some description, and your utsu will be wiped more often than it is up. You then have little damage mitigation when the spells or smns come in.

As for JoL. I agree with the name JoLOL. It is quite a mundane fight. We fought with 24 today(27 including a couple 2box'd) summons party is the bigger challenge. We went with 5blms taking the summons, then dropped down to 4(even lost 1 to d/c for 2 spawns, so 3 temoprarily)

I'm on Leviathan with Linsivi and from linkshell members I spoke to, said he tanked it like a champ. Died at one point, unweakened and then regained hate as RDM/BRD withing seconds. We went with 3 plds first time we tried and today for our second ever pop we went with just 2 PLD/WARs. Never really lost hate(not against magery @ least) except when melee got a lil overzealous(i.e MS, WC 300tp ws from a war )

We just popped AV on Fenrir

Held it for about 4 hours, 2 real attempts made at it (LS teamup, was very fun) but all in all I don't think we went at it properly. Can't confrim locked or not but a friendly ex-member of our LS decided it was nice to call GM and remove our AV from the footprint and delay our attempt by about an hour.

So footprint still works until GM arrives, and we just didn't have the chance to test lock.

Gotta love those people. It's not like footprint make you kill AV, it just help you hold it, instead of bothering with 1 smn+ brd >_> Legit or not, it's pretty low.

Same thing happened on Remora today. Guy in a rival shell GM'd Apathy for footprinting it. The whole "they deserve it for exploiting the game" doesn't work for two reasons:

1. SE deserves to have players exploit that fucked up and currently unkillable mob.

2. On Remora, we're all botting assholes so the moral duty to GM call thing is lol.
