FFXI Update History JP Beta to CoP: A Player's Perspective

Finally, someone found it again: http://qcdn.org/showthread.php?t=5009

Someone's JP friend kept almost a little journal of the various updates that have happened since JP Beta. The game has changed so much it's unbelievable, witness gems such as:

    - All mobs had fly/lizard style hate at one time.
    - Sneak/invis/deodor NM drop only
    - Charm would break when the BST received a critical hit.
    - No crafting "mastery", allowed for multiple high level crafts on single character.
    - Flash and Stun added *after* NA release.

You'll find a lot, LOT of stuff here that wasn't in the update notes, it's really worth reading.

Yeah I've read it 3 or 4 times, it was pretty much lost until someone bumped it today.

Look for the posts with the JP characters, those are the ones you want (first 3 pages).

The bee had the WS "Final sting" which was impossible to dodge and dealt up to 1800 damage (bees doing Meteor damage of a king behemoth hahah...). And since they agrod anyone which were not high 40s, people started to leave the area.
I SURE DON'T SEE MUCH DIFFERENCE TODAY

Tarutaru Female's from Sandoria /salute has been changed. Seemed their pose was very similar to Nazis motion...

When I started playing my import character, I would farm on blm(Quadav Shells! Yes seriously). Back then, TP return from weapon skills was based on how much damage you did.

Lots of mobs + Earth Crusher = More then 100% TP return.

    It was fun ;x

999 delay weapon with multi-hit WSes gave more then 100% TP. o.o

    Relic weapons must have been really good even at stage 1? o.o;

Thats why it was changed. Pretty sure that was well into NA release though, not really any ancient secret.

Good read, I remember some of these bugs when I talked to my friends.

*last part I don't know what it actually means... it sais they start to farm giants*

they giants in quifim would drop a shitload of gil if you killed it by yourself. The dropped like 1000+ gil on every kill (Back thent hat was a lot) so people would start going and killing them lol.

    - Sneak attack from sub jobs has been now nerfed, at the same time the bug that it did not permit to use sneak attack when you are facing specific direction has been corrected (I don't know what this means...)

anything/thf would do the same dmg from sneak attack as thf/anything. So now you have thf/whatever doing sneak attack for like 400-500, a drk/thf could do sneak attack and to the same thing lol.

-Till this day, brd could only cast one song per member to all the party. But now they were able to sing 2 songs when they are as main job. However, they now can't use 2 of the same level song twice.

Ballad was insanely powerful back then, it got nerfed, it did a lot more than 3mp/tick

Oh my godddddddd, fudaima ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; I miss that.

With TA+SA, you could line up to the side of the mob, but as long as you were planting TA on somebody it would do the same damage as if you were directly behind. I used to have a chart for how it was done, but I cant find it. Ill look around.

God when that was first changed, NOBODY partied with thfs. It was too much of a hassle to make people have to stand behind enemies.. or voke so they could plant hate on the tank.

The big christmass tree event which is the clone of the big toad event has been made. The day it was implemented the hp of this mob never decreased. (but people used it to skill up lol lol lol) After it was fixed, the company have threatened the users that if the tree is not killed, that server won't be allowed to use the OP teleports. Which the users kill and now happily using the teleport service.
I remember my friend telling me about this when he talked about playing FFXI. I never knew they THREATENED the servers LOL. Thats hilarious.

This was an awesome read. I joined up when they released the game on the PS2 in NA so it was cool to see what the game was like leading up to me playing and what things were like around my noob days.

GM giving information to an illegal user has been punished. It was to demonstrate how strict Square deal towards those who break the regulation. However, since everyone knew about how corrupted the Gms were they had more suspicious views towards the GM rather than respect.
I found this bit the most interesting. Not that its something we all didnt already know, but its interesting to hear that coming from a JP player.

Holy crap, the allatards weren't lying.

EDIT: Was reading this and the translator said:
    - Abjuration and Sky NM, the Big three HNM (I have no clue what they are... not the 3 dragons.) has been added.
    - However, the Big Three NM are a lottery pop of an NM that pops once per day and has a spawn range of 3~9 days. Its strength itself was not high and it could be even to a medium scaled LS, however those item greed LS had to start camping the Placeholder HNM itself every day to have the chance of the Big three HNMs. (Could this be Nidhogg, adpi what ever and another one?)

How to properly perform 'Yokodama' onto an orc. [the child is out of the orc's vision, so SA damage applies. And the closest player is the tank, so TA applies.]

Edited because I typed while at work and tired.
