I think people are getting a bit better at using different jobs and slightly more creative strategies these days. There are still some people that go for the "I need (6-18) (BLM-SMN-Krakens) to win (CoP-BCNM-hNM-etc)", but between experienced players that's a minority now.

Before people used to take hours to kill Kirin with Blms and Smns, now everyone does it in under a minute with Monks and Wars.

Alliances are getting more creative with tanks too, someone already mentioned the NIN/BRDs and BRD/NINs, and even before that there was NIN/DRKs using stun, bind, and drk JAs to hold hate better, etc.
I think it's those types of more inventive variations and strategy choices that make this game more fun and interesting.

It's too bad that people haven't figured out a new better strategy to beat AV yet, unfortunately with all that's riding on the line in popping it it's unthinkable to really use that opportunity to do a lot of testing.
SE should add a time-repeatable BC ENM fight, even with no drops and just like XP reward with AV in it, so people could actually practice and try out new strategies for free on a dummy version of it without risking anything.

One thing I regret never doing was trying out NIN/BLM but w/ a all MAB, INT, etc, gear. The only other NIN/BLM's I ever saw posting about it never really tested it fully. Like they would use normal NIN weapon's and gear that they would use to tank in and just rely on the innate BLM bonuses from the subjob to boost the magic damage.

I always thought if you tried NIN/BLM but geared your playing style and gear to boost magic damage as best as possible, even go as far as using mage items like say the ugg. pendant. Or, if it's even possible, meriting BLM stuff instead of NIN. I think if you did this right you could keep hate with out ever needing voke. Or even more extreme throw Tsar's Eggs if you ever needed to voke, do they even stack? I can't remember if they are Rare or not.

And with the new Ni spells that are out I wonder if it would even be more effective. Has anyone ever seriously tried this, and not just half assed it?

And how exactly does the NIN/BRD keep hate? I quit at 73 so I never really got to do HNM fights but I heard even the best of tanks will eventually lose hate to the BRDs if the fight is long enough, given all the songs casted in that time. Does it work like this, if so how does the tank build up hate to start with?

They added a level 37 Mazurka, basically allowing you can spam a powered-up Warcry every 20 seconds.
