I don't think it's true, because if PS3 was available everywhere, people wouldn't buy it.

90% of people that buy the PS3 ATM in stores, etc. do it so they can resell it on ebay... and those people that buy it from them, are just desperate rich people that want to get their kid that system for christmas.

After the whole holiday thing cools down, though, PS3's sales will plummet until they bring some useful titles to the table.

And until DMC/MGS/FF13-V13 come out, I don't see PS3 getting the upper hand on the console war.

And by then it may be too late.. since by that time Super Mario Galaxy, MP3 and SBB will be out as well.
Yea Kenai I didn't mean the Wii graphics were bad, but XIII is too far along in development to scrap it and start over to focus on Wii gameplay. Thats why I mentioned XIV.

The Wii is vastly underrated by people mostly because Nintendo itself is pretty tight-lipped about the systems full specs.

What nobody really takes into account is how much easier it is to get the full benefit of the Wii's specs compared to the PS3. Fewer developers, less money invested, etc, just makes it more appealing to a developer. If you add in a dominating market share, and its pretty obvious that companies are going to make games for the Wii over the PS3.

Why spend millions of dollars with a workforce of over 100 on a game if you can do it for far less money, with far fewer people, and have it played by more lol.

Ninendo has done everything right this generation. Cheaper system, easier to develop for, innovative new way to play that attracts a wider audience. All they need is the marketshare, and it doesn't matter how powerful the PS3 is, nobody is going to be making games or playing it.

I'm not even that excited about FF13. To be honest, I want more games from the FF12 development team instead. Its one of the funiest games I've played in a long time, and I for one welcomed the change in the FF series. Not really that excited to see it go back to the way it was before.

    Yeah exactly...

But I don't really care, because Sony's consoles have always been about the RPGs for me. I got the 360 for the shooters, Wii for the awesome controller mostly.. (and the actual good titles they bring to the table..), and the PS3 for DMC/MGS/FFs and stuff like that.

I just don't see the need for a PS3 in the next 6 months, at least until Devil May Cry debuts.

    I agree.

The Playstation was the single source of RPGs when it was dominating the market, and the PS2 had a similar situation for its lifetime too. Seeing Dragon Quest go from a Sony exclusive game to being made on the DS has to be making some people wonder about the PS3.

If Sony loses its grip on the RPGs, what exactly does it have left? At that point, you'll basically be set if you have a 360 and a Wii, covering all bases. The 360 -is- going to be getting most of the games the PS3 does, simply because Microsoft has very, very deep pockets and will lure developers over despite the obvious lack of marketshare in Japan, at least for ports if nothing else.

I don't see Square ditching Sony after years of cooperating with the main Final Fantasy titles, as well as Kingdom Hearts and the likes. (Even though they ARE working on a FF12 prequel to debut on the DS.)

Square seems to be packing up their bags and taking their business elsewhere as far as Sony is concerned... if they'd rather put all those games on Nintendo's handheld console rather than the PSP, something is wrong.

But if other developers like Namco or Tri-Ace start ditching Sony in the RPG department, PS3 will go down as one of the worst consoles ever... which is why i'm not being too preemptive about buying a PS3 (not to mention buying a 600 dollar system is BS, especially since even the 360's premium version is 200 dollars cheaper -- and it's way more attractive ATM.)

Sony currently doesn't have anything to bring to the table, which is sad, because the Wii does and that's why it's been kicking the PS3's ass (forget the lack of consoles, even if they had the exact same numbers, more people would go after a Wii than PS3.) You could say that the 360 didn't have any impressive titles to begin with either, but they have 1 year over Sony and Nintendo... and being the only next-gen system on the market for 11 months is very impressive.

I just hope Sony will know how to keep its safe investments in place (the RPGs), or they are going to be bitchslapped left and right this console war.

first of all, DQ was never gonna be the kind of exclusive to function as console seller, SE has been saying for years that they will only put DQ on the most popular system, it's just a surprise now that their promise included handhelds

that being said, i'm really disappointed that it's gonna be on a handheld... but then again, the soul of DQ has reincarnated in that little game on the 360 called "blue dragon" so i'll continue it's legacy there :D

....even though the stupid graphic lags are killing me... orz

the promise to FF13's gameplay was--to paraphrase it--complete revolution from any traditional RPGs before... dunno about you but that doesn't say to me it's "going back" anywhere

From all the trailers i've seen this far of FF13, it looks like it's an action/adventure style... then again, that's what I thought of FF12 too.

I just hope they keep it the way FF12 is, or just go back to the old system that worked so well. (even though I welcomed the new change aswell, it was very easy to adapt to, especially after playing FFXI.)

Is a lot of this game having to level up for a while before tackling dungeons? What level should I be before attempting the Sealed Cave?
Go into the west tower of castle Sasune. There's enemies there, and some chests. Chest at the top of the tower has a strong sword, wightslayer.

Good place to build levels. Lv 6 is a good level to get too for the Sealed cave.

The reason SE gave for brining it to DS is that they've always brought the DQ series to the system that has the highest market share which happens to be DS this time round.

They also stated that you could make use of the Nintendo Wifi to have adventure with other players around the world too. This is one of the big feature of DQ9. Whether it'll be in the final product is still not known.

I believe this was not stated anywhere. But the 4 main people/studios/group in charge of the project are Horii Yuuji, Bird Studio, Sugiyama Kouichi and Level-5.

My concerns about limitations were not about graphics, more along the lines of the fact that a game for the DS will be limited more than one made to one of the major consoles. There will be more restrictions to the game, gameplay wise that would imo hinder its development...but I guess this one will be a wait and see.

So much PS3 hating even though some of its justified, out of all the systems out now, I believe the PS3 has the most future potential. Of course no one really cares about future potential but IF the PS3 last long enough to start sprinting the PS3 will be a good console. It does have a lot of good titles coming out in 2007, which for some reason seem to get over shadowed by the 2-3 good Wii titles but I guess people really love there nintendo. Xbox isn't even an opinion to me because I like RPG"s and Xbox has none.

But I agree that the PS3 needs to keep its grip on RPG”s, because that was always Sony niche. This will be Sony hardest console war because they have a huge chance of ending up like the Dreamcast. A system with huge potential but never got the chance to prove it. <3 Dreamcast too

We will just have to wait and see what happened, I personally find the Wii to be the most overrated system ever specially considering the remote reminds me a lot of the power glove. And because I used to work at an arcade so motion sensors controls aren’t exciting me anymore because I used to play them all day at work :D

Like I said, I will love to get my hands on a PS3 once DMC/MGS/FF come out, but until then I just don't see any games that justify paying 600 bucks for a console.

Sure, it's got the most potential. It's probably stronger than the 360 as well, once the developers get used to the system. (look at the games that were released at the beginning of the PS2, as opposed to PS2 games that were released recently... Kingdom Hearts 1/2, anyone?)

But as of right now, there are all the rights to bash Sony for releasing the PS3 as is. 1st of all, they've got extremely short quantities, and getting enough satisfied people will take a long time. 2nd, I read that about 500+ of the previous-gen games don't even work/barely work on the PS3, and that they will have to fix. And last but not least, they have 2 frickin' games out that are original and aren't already out on different consoles (and to be honest, Madden looks a lot more polished on the 360 than it does on the PS3.)

So in short, PS3 will take a huge blow until they get some of the more big-name titles... until then, there really is no point in paying for that system.

Remember when the PS3 was considered the winner of the wars based on name alone?

If you asked me 2 years ago, I would've said so as well...

But seeing how things turned around, with 360 being released a year early, and Wii having a very very impressive debut, PS3 just got shoved to the side.

I do too, but potential doesn't mean anything if you're not around to realize it.

I think the N64 had way more potential than the original Playstation, but by the time people were really pumping out beautiful games on the N64, it had no third party support left to do anything with.

The storage potential wasn't there though, hence square switching platforms for the ff7 we know today.

That was later disproven, near the end of the N64's lifecycle.

Nobody thought Resident Evil could be done on the N64, but they were able to fairly successfully port it to the system near the end.

And somehow Legend of Zelda: OoT didn't seem limited by storage at all.

I doubt FF10/12 would've looked as good as they did if they were done on the Gamecube...

But that's besides the point, PS2 was successful, Gamecube was not.

It seems like it's changing roles now... at least for the next 8 months until MGS/DMC will be out, and even that isn't enough to carry the PS3.... it needs an FF title, bad.
