Hrm, I didn't check this site and I heard about this from the DB thread. I just got home from class, so I guess it's time for me to say something.

First bit of discussion, I do and will continue to use it in a positive way. Yes, I like tanking with war. I may not be in an HNM LS(haven't for at least a year now) and haven't applied/tried to join one since. My end-game activites consist of Limbus and dynamis, both are 2 days a week. The limbus LS I co-lead, like the dynamis LS(not a leader though), is purely limbus. We don't have the numbers most LS's have and many times, I have been the only tank for limbus. Now, most mobs in limbus don't hit that hard and they are easy to damage. So in order to tank, you need to do dmg. But the hydra hauby has no +attack. It still, however has the same +10 accuracy from hauberk. You can't tell me how 10 attack, 5 str and 5 dex would be better for holding hate than 9 enmity. There was a post on Alla by Nny about war tanking. One of the builds included joyeuse/shield, as much +enmity gear as you can get and dorato sushi. Hydra Haubert has BOTH stats that are needed. If you want to argue it's so great for PLD, they are only going to be using the enmity and wasting the 10 accuracy. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's better for war, because it isn't. I am saying that war can make good use of it. While AF body has +8 enmity, it doesn't at all help you in the damage department. That's whay the hydra haubert is a good piece. And based on what I do, I can still put it to use.

Second, I never said I wanted it for merit parties. If you read the DB thread, my first post. I had stated that I happened to use it in the last 30 minutes because our PLD had left and the others didn't want to disband yet. Unless you party with totally gimp meele or have overpowered gear *cough*ridill*cough*, you are not going to always keep hate with provoke and dmg alone. Using haste gear to keep shadows up eliminates possibilities to use anything else with +enmity on it.

Third, everyone seems to think I'm a loot whore. I joinned DB about a year ago and I do have just over 100 runs. If I was really a loot whore, I would have changed my lotting job to war before I got wyrm greaves. Yes, I am a DRG main. I could have easily changed to lot war relic and got that last drg piece free lot. It's not even any good. In fact, it has no purpose, I just wanted to complete the set. I could have had those 2 months it took to get that piece to wh0re war relic, but I didn't. I also don't have 4/5 war relic. The last piece I need is the body. But being the loot whore that I am, I go to lot war relic body every xarcabard. Oh wait, I have never even lotted on it, or even set my comment for war relic. I choose money and let others have it because I won't ever use it.

As stated above, I also co-run a limbus only LS. Only 20 members or so and we kill omega and ultima. I am in charge of telling who get's to lot what homam and narsha(sp?) gear. And because I am such a loot whore, my drg is rocking in full homam. Oh wait... I only have the head, which is auto-distributed now. When I make a mistake with the coins, I take them out of my own personal fund to make sure everyone else get's what they want. Yes, I'm such a loot whore.

Then there's some of you that want to bash DynamisBums. That's what's really confusing. Everywhere I go, people are posting links or taking information from our LS. We are by far the most successful, in terms of getting loot and having fun. You can't deny that. When the CoP zones came out Fatman lead an expedition to discover and uncover those zones that many of you use. And since he's gone now, Teorem has been busting his butt to make things happen. Your just making yourself look stupid by bashing DB.

The last 25 levels of blu will be trivial compared to getting the sword.

The only reason I usually ever melee on my PLD for an HNM is if I am going to Spirits Within Fafnir or Nidhogg.

Try to justify all you want, but the question was asked on who should've gotten it, and pretty much the entire BG decide to answer, and there you have it.

Doesn't matter if it doesn't cause drama in the LS or you can justify a valid excuse of having it really, because it's still a stupid decision.

From what i gather here, this topic has become "its okay to freelot" vs. "its common courtesy to not lot things that'd be better for other jobs". And from what i've read, the WAR in question stated the only PLD left early and there were no PLD75s around to lot it....this means any arguement about a WAR getting it over a PLD is utterly useless.

However, trying to justify being a lootwhore because you think AF Body just doesnt cut it for "holding hate in burn parties" by saying "my LS freelots things for jobs that can use it" is pretty retarded. As stated before, some jobs should get items before others just for the sheer utility of them.

This is like a BLM getting a Dring because "he wants to solo better by taking -10% damage when stoneskin wears off". There is no point to a WAR having this piece of equipment, just like there is no point to a BLM getting a Dring. Off topic, but I saw a bunch of posts about this so I felt obligated to respond. DRKs actualli have decent tanking ability... there's just not many talented DRKs that bother trying. Easiest way to think about a DRK/NIN tank is a mix between the hate abilities of NIN/DRK combined with the eq available to a PLD/NIN. I've personalli managed to main tank 90%+ of whats available in game as a DRK/NIN. I can build an increadible amount of hate without a major loss in damage output, all while taking minimal damage... which makes it ideal for so many purposes. Items like Hydra Haubert and Bahamut's mask would greatly enhance my tanking ability as DRK/NIN... although I'd still rather see it goto a PLD. I was lucky to see the one that dropped in our Dyn-Tav goto one, even though we lack a job priority on the Hydra gear.

On-topic, and after what I just said... each Dynamis LS(and HNM LS for that matter) has their own idea on lotting systems. You join an LS understanding their system, and hopefully agree with it. Like so many have said, no lotting system is perfect because there isn't always a "right" and "wrong." To me the only thing that matters is that he followed the lotting order, and actualli makes some use of it. Even if it's unconviential use like a DRK who wants to tank Aspi, or just a WAR who wants to main tank in limbus. It's a completely different story if he tossed it in storage.

I'd give the piece to a DRK before a WAR jdue to the utility of a +enmity body piece for DRK/THF doing SATAWS, that and the +20mp wouldnt go to waste if they were silly enough to not use it for swap only
