    Dish Network question

Ordered dish network and they want to hook each receiver into my land-based phone line, and they say it needs to stay connected all the time. What I wanna know is why, because I dont really want to have that connected to my phone line if its not absolutely necessary. I could call them but Im imagining them laughing at me for not knowing and then giving me the run around til I hang up.

I sold directv's a long ass time ago. back then it was completely optional to have it connected full time. It was for on-demand ordering purposes only. I don't know if the same applies to dish network. Call them and tell them that you do not have an active land based phone line, you make and recieve calls from cell phones. See what they say.

Depending on your receiver model, not having the land line connected will result in an additional 5$ a month per receiver fee. Specifically, any new dual tuner receiver will have this fee.

used for pay-per-view movies. Because your reciever isn't two-way (duh), you require a phone line to contact the dish company to order the movie. I do believe it actually makes a phone call at the same time. Old cable boxes had something similar, new ones are completely run off your cable line though
