BS. Tiamat pop when we were gathering. Are we the only shell who have trouble motivating people for salvage? I can hardly get more than 12

Herald's gaiters vs best gear in the game....hmmm
No, we don't have that problem...we did skip it last night however, to do Khimaira.
Goddamn I hate all these stupid stubborn people who are so stuck in the HNM/Kings mindset that they refuse to actually do the sensible thing and do new shit that has MUCH better gear and is loads more fun. And takes less time...Originally Posted by Kaylia
It seems to me that 12 or less is a good number to do Salvage with in any event. The time you spend unlocking necessary pathos is determined by the number of people who need said pathos unlocked, so less people = less earlier farming.
When we understand better methods to do what we need to do, I am guessing 18 wont be a standard Salvage run, really..
I think our problem is people being too lazy to get caught up on missions. I know this was the case with a number of people my LS. We set up at least one Black Coffin run the night of the patch, but gathering people last night still yielded a lot of "Oh, I'm still on M11..." responses. However, the 14 people we went with yesterday seemed to be a couple too many imo.

That said, Salvage should really give you a chest when you start with 1 weapon and 1 magic inside. It's annoying to be forced to bring mnk for the first mobs only. Well, mnk isnt bad for the whole thing, but it's more job changing which is kinda annoying. And one magic to kill the annoying downtime early that are useless.
what about other jobs with some kind of h2h skill, like war or thf or something? can those jobs do decently if they skillup h2h to decent levels, or is it still a missfest?
LS mate has made a complete layout of the first 2 floors of the zhayolm remnants. Maps are complete with mob counts, mob drops, teleporter locations, pretty much everything you need to know. He's gonna finish the first 6 (i think) floors soonish, which will be a world of help. He's not got access to BG as of yet, but if he gets it, Lokim can post the notes...as it's not my work.
@ evelyn. Mobs have low evasion from what ive seen, then again, im a mnk. THF do pretty well, and it doesn't take long to get weapons. We've taken no less than 4 MNKs on our 2 runs.
I went as thief, and I feel like I did just fine. I forgot to pop sushi and I wasnt missing anything more than the accuracy cap.Originally Posted by Evelyn
We gave our first weapons to a monk, which wasnt the best idea, since they allready had h2h skills, and was just adding a lil extra dmg to the punches. next weapons dropped with a SJ, and I took em both, which was really good, since between mandau and thf knife, I wound up tanking most mobs, and thief makes a better tank than a mnk since we got 4 eva traits and higher skill >.>
Heres how were handling the priority on the cells: We go in knowing who's lotting what and in what order. Stuff is passed and dropped to the appropriate person almost immediatly.
Weapons:
1. Melee not MNK
2. PLD
3. Ninja
4. MNK
5. Mages
(I think we might move MNK a little further up, because we were a little too defensive minded last run.)
Head and Neck:
1. RDM
2. PLD
Body:
1. WHM
2. PLD
Hands:
1. THF (TH gloves)
Feet:
1. PLD and or NIN. Powder boots/AF boots for sac pulling
Waist:
1. MNK
Ranged:
1. BRD
2. RNG
(BRD really suck in salvaged. 1 song ftl)
Earrings and Rings:
Whoever
Abilities:
1. PLD
2. NIN
(Gonna totally revamp this to get our melee abilities ASAP. Need to be really offensive to have enough time)
Magic:
1. WHM
2. RDM
3. PLD
4. NIN
5. BRD
6. BLM
For some odd reason we kinda have the same problem. Like our "Core" members (the hardcore, old members) are always there but we have alot of people that haven't done the missions and have a "Meh" attitude to get them done and get salvage access. Doesn't make sense not to do it and try to get some of the best gears in the whole game.Originally Posted by Kaylia

oh man just did zhayolm again ended up wiping at 6th floor.
Brief recap of usual shit.
As said before first floor is (puks)weapons, (raptors)abilities, (bugards)sj, and (ziz)spells, these reflect their majority of drops while they can drop other cells too.
second floor is equip and stats, mobs consist of wyverns and lizards.
third floor(Mamools and archaic rampart) - fourth floor (forgs and mamools) both floor stats.
fifth floor(archaic gear + rampart) nothing dropped straight foward killing
sixth floor(archaic gear + rampart + chariot)
here's where we got suprised big time. There's three rooms here and one door sealed by magical force, each room has a rampart but we were running low on time so we only killed one rampart then proceeded to try and kill the chariot hoping it unlocked door. If you aggro the chariot, a set of archaic gears spawn at two points along the whole map. I guess this would be easier to explain with a map but think of a rectangular hall; bottom left, top left, middle bottom, middle top, etc all spawned a set of archaic gear(numbers maybe slightly off due to the suprise and confusion). From what I've seen these gears can't be slept at all and this is what ended up happening.

anyways, whoever aggro's the chariot will likely have most of the gears on them but since they are sight aggro only, someone with anything ga can hit most of the gears while the max hp tank kites and links them all and takes chariot away. After whoever ga's the stuff dies the gears will deaggro and you can proceed to kill chariot. That's as far as we got, we'll like to do zhayolm again till we can beat it so more update tomorrow and slott will probably fill in whatever I missed. Hope this helps someone get further ;3
I personally would put BRD higher up on your magic list. Mobs through the first three floors aren't hard enough that tanking is actually much of an issue, so both PLD and NIN seem to benefit less than a BRD or BLM, both of whom have basically their entire job as magic.Originally Posted by Tyche
We had 2 BRDs with us last time, and they were both given magic before tanks. Things became drastically smoother having useful BRDs, far more than having a PLD or NIN with their respective magics would have made it.
Further zhayolm info: Frogs on first floor do have a purpose other than their chest. Kiling them unlocks the corresponding room on the second floor. ie; this time we ignored all 4 frogs and ported up.We only had access to 1 equipment room on second floor. Kind of sucked that everyone only had head gear![]()
we actually took no bards, replacing them with melee, and had an easier time than what everyone else has been saying. Imo salvage is one of the zones were getting another DD is better than getting a bard.
Yeah i agree BRD is very useless.
We made it as far as your group did with 2 BRDs. I really don't see where your arguement is going.Originally Posted by Lordwafik

1/2 of the time spent is done farming gear where brd wont be able to do much. Even with song, monsters are often too easy to warrent the use of a brd song. Lullaby is useless, dispel can be done by a rdm.Originally Posted by Viq

not to mention the mobs in salvage arent all that difficult, you shouldnt need marches or minuets to get the job done. Maybe bring in one bard for rotating, but that magic unlock could be better used on a blm rdm or whm.
Ok info on thickets one, today we stormed thru the farming and got everyone pretty well equiped, we killed some gears on the 3rd floor and skipped the rest. Killed the mini boss chariot @ the 4th floor and went after boss. We tried to tp burn it, big mistake. Realized half way thru the fight that kiting is the way to go. We tried to regroup mid wipe and change to kiting strat but timed out cause we went in with wrong idea. In the end it was left @ 28%. I say 2-3 rdms 1 pld/war and a few rngs and this guys is done np. we had 15 people. 2 mnks 3-4 wars 1 thf 1 nin a few blms rdm whms and 1 brd.
All in all kiting should not be a problem enfeebs land fairly easily.and got open room to run. Tomorrow i believe we win. Dont believe the gears or the mini boss weaken him or at least we didnt see the difference.
