Saw some other SS on KI where it was only 50% reduction. Speculation that the % reduction fades over time (think like an abs stat spell maybe?).

I only fucked around with some statues at lolulli after fafnir died. Nothing really conclusive I can report.

Stuff makes sense now. Logged into the aery after maintenance today to see gil sellers claim fafnir (first claim on our server's history ). The pld was constantly getting hit for 150-190, then was getting hit for 20-30 for a few. Makes sense now, holy hell.

    P.S. FUCK YOU GIL SELLERS

Ok well my current opinion stands on sentinel's dmg reduction ability to be based on current defensive properties, either VIT/def or both. Reason for this: The original SS I showed I stacked defensive gear. You can clearly see that I'm getting hit for next to nothing. The same results on other defensive fights.

But when I was in a TP burn, soloing, or generally wearing unconventional or non-defensive gear the dmg reduction effect was less effective, and clearly. In the TP burn I just left, for 2hrs+ I watched as it only knocked off about 50-60% of the damage. Then shit hit the fan at one point and I threw on all my defensive gear to try to save the day by tanking three mobs. Slapping on all the gear and hitting sentinel yielded this:

Another thing to add. The enimity is very noticable.

Definitely seems that the % reduction fades over time, like Beckwin mentioned. Well, unless shield blocks are messing with the results, it's hard to tell for sure if they were from a screen shot.

    So a little question here.

How does the "Magic Shield" effect on Rampart work. I'm here testing it out on small shit buttttt what about the big stuff?

Does it work like stoneskin where it can take a set amount of damage, then go away. Or is it more like phalanx where it is lasts a set amount of time but only reduces damage by so much.

Im leaning more toward the stoneskin side which would suck because one strong nuke and its gone. But can anybody confirm this is how it works?

It's just straight Damage reduction, magic or otherwise, yes?

I was talking about Rampart, not Sentinel. But I found my answer. @_@

Unfortunately I didn't take any SS's, but I took my PLD out to Temenos - West to try it out. And so far all of the reports above me seem to be consistent. The Sentinel damage IS a true Damage Reduction, but it gradually weakens aka Stoneskin on small steroids. Full TP moves are absorbed and damage is reduced, but the next moves are still lower than they normally would be.

And unlike stoneskin it doesn't just go poof. Rehashed info I know, but at least in my case it was confirmed. Didn't deal with any Magic so couldn't really test Ramparts effects and like Tekki said, the Enmity IS VERY noticeable. Add the shield Un-Nerf, simply because before the shield mastery "updates" many months back, I wouldn't get interrupted to begin with and the lovely Chivalry merits, PLD is personally a tank of choice.

I still keep my NIN in top shape, but at least now I can use my PLD more which is <333 for me, since imo it's always been a great job, just unappreciated.

From using it against MNK mobs in dynamis today it seems to be 100% reduction for maybe 2 seconds, 90% reduction for about 13, then 60-70%ish reduction for the remainder of the duration. Glad that finally hundred fists can just be a complete joke in dynamis instead of having to semi-worry about it.

Edit: Macroed in AF2 feet for Sentinel

As previously stated sentinel flat out owns and from my own experience dmg does seem to fade over time, haven't fully tested. Shield block seems to be 100% interruption down. Tanking Khimaira (only major tanking experience post patch) never did he interrupt any casting if i blocked. Which on its own is just sickening /nin. As far as rampart i was only able to time it (or land it) once over the duration of the fight and fulmination dropped from 800 to 500~ to my pt (me the brd and other tank got hit). Going to try more testing tomorrow.

Magic Shield on Rampart from the added Stoneskin effect is very nice. Was just up in Zhayolam meriting on trolls and decided to throw up Rampart just as I engaged a Troll Ranger. Their Zaraqarn (sp?) TP move which is a fire-based ranged spell usually did 300+ dmg to me in standard gear. Using Barfira cut that down to about 110-160. With Rampart up and before any other magic damage it did zero (0) to me.

I'll agree with Teki that the Sentinel damage reduction seems to be about 90% when I'm kitted out in my DEF/VIT gear, but when I'm in my DD stuff it's only about 75% or maybe less. The enmity boost is very noticeable during Sentinel period. Voke, Flash, even cures, get a lot more enmity than before.

I got hit with a Firaga III in dynamis today with rampart up while wearing a Bomb Queen ring for 0 damage, my entire party took 0 damage actually.

This isn't just some pretty tricks that SE has given us, this is a life saver and a huge boost for PLDs SE. Thank you SE. I think they have completely solidified this job. I really don't see many weakness's other then possibly situational enmity control, that can be adjusted without simply breaking the job.

After having this for the past few days, playing everywhere from solo-dynamis-TPburn-HNMing I can say these adjustments are phenomenal. Its great having to hesitate before simply spamming what used to be midely useless moves only for hate. This Sentinel move was very necessary. PLD's are known for their ability to eat damage over time no matter the mob. But Theres just some points you know you are bout to get raped as a PLD. AKA, EES, Hundred Fists, WSs and WS spams, Mighty Strikes. Its these huge damage spikes that can really drain a support crew and the overall performance of the group. Sentinel now makes any of these circumstances inconsequential. You see it coming, you know this is going to hurt... Sentinel to save the day.

The same can be said with Rampart. The weakest spot for a PLD it magic damge taken. Its especially frustrating during Invincible when you die to Firaga III. Now we have a tool to prevent not only ourselves from taking such high numbers from incoming magic, we have a tool to protect the entire party.

This Shield Mastery boost is a dream as well. Its funny remembering myself thinking and saying out loud on TS, "damnit I shield blocked, that cast shouldve gone off." Coupled with the Shield Skill adjustment this is just supremely powerful. PLD/NINs are simply invincible now. Im really excited to tank everything in this game all over again now.
Is PLD perfect now? XD. Hopefully the allah plds dont think so!!! Maybe then they can complain us another update to make or power over 9000!

I wasn't watching his screen much but my boyfriend was tanking Dynamis-Bastok MNKs last night and sniggering every time he popped sentinel in response to their hundred fists.

It was along the lines of "oh look there's another MNK... snh snh snh" so I stopped trying to stun them cos he was being smug.

lol i forgot to take screenshots, but fought Proto-Omega last night.

    threw up sentinel

Proto-Omega hits Belkin for 0 points of damage.

threw it up later in the fight

    Proto-Omega readies Collasual Blow.
Belkin takes 54 points of damage.

just thought i'd share that with you

Did you try to Rampart Citadel Buster?

I did tonight, had -25% magic dmg taken and used Rampart. It hit me for 1138 but I didn't have shell V on. With Shell V, I'd imagine I would have taken roughly 600-700.

These changes are exactly what the job needed to become what it -should- be, a highly defensive class with respectable healing capabilities.

PLD has had issues for the longest time, its just that they could be worked around by subbing (what I consider to personally be broken, utsusemi) ninja for shadows.

This is a very dramatic step in defining PLD by its mainjob rather than its sub.
