How do I find out what the fuck my onboard sound card is.

Knowing what specific motherboard you have would be a start. Once you know that you can look it up and will most likely have the onboard sound listed also.

I'll take this over it freezing at startup unfortunately the XP CD didnt work so I'm running on 2000 which means my 360 controller is borked
