Thats WS, let's NOT presume its the same for normal attack rounds.
shouldnt be that hard to find out...

make a video of someone /nin. should take an average of 8 attack rounds to have the kraken land 8 hits in a round, see where the 9th hit goes.
Your assuming that the chance of 1hit proc = 2hit proc =3 hit proc = 8 hit proc..

Is that actually the case? I have never tested it, but I don't think it is..

I think 1 and 8 hit procs happen the least...kraken hits seem to like to be in the 4-6 range
From what I've read, each amount has the same % rate

Interesting..and what about Ridill and Joyeuse and other multi hit things?
Jailer weapons seem to be > 50% double attack

Jailer Weapons are obviously different though, as Double and Triple Attack can proc on them.

My Joyeuse definitely seems to have a 50% chance of Double Attacking, and all the Ridill WARs in my LS say 33.3% chance for Single/Double/Triple. I would imagine that the Kraken Club reacts similarly, being from the same expansion and all.

It's all a moot point, anyways, as it only affects how long a person testing this might have to wait before they get an 8-hit kraken round. It has no bearing on what actually happens when you do get that 8-hit round on the mainhand.

On the question of how the attack round cap was discovered, I believe--and someone will surely correct me quickly if I'm wrong--that MNK/NIN gets an extra "dual wield hit" on WS. Seeing many 8-hit Asurans and never a 9-hit Asuran as MNK/NIN would very quickly give conclusive evidence for the 8-hit cap.

Yes conclusive for 8 hit cap on weapon skill

MNK/NIN doesn't get an "extra hit" on h2h weaponskills, because h2h is naturally dual-weild.

In fact, combo is probably a 2-hit WS, but you can't execute it without the extra "offhand" hit because you can't execute it without an offhand weapon.

I knew someone would correct me quickly!

Edit: Wait but Asuran description is "delivers an eightfold attack" right? So that just means that regardless of subjob it should be 9 hits but for the cap?

I did a really gimpy test with Soboro in uncapped Lebros (as a level 55 SAM) a while ago without /WAR, pre-Zanshin update, and logged all the swings just to get an idea of how often the double and triple attacks kicked in.

IIRC, I think double attack kicked in something like 50% of the time, single attack was 30%-ish, and triple the rest.

Not exhaustive by any means due to only getting something like 200 attack rounds in, and unfortunately the weapon is nearly impossible to test now due to Zanshin being available at level 20. I suppose a 75 in uncapped Lebros with full +acc could decently test it, but every miss could introduce error. Edit: assuming Ridill and Soboro have the same proc rate, a BST, DRK, or RNG could do the same test w/ the sword.

Or the description already takes into consideration that you can't execute it without an extra offhand hit.

Well that's answered easily enough (assuming uniformity across H2H WS descriptions), how many actual hits is Raging Fists?

I've not tried, but couldn't a WAR equip a shield, leave their mainhand empty, gather TP and still use H2H WS?

I heard that the joke on Ridll has always been that its description should be changed to:

    Occasionally hits once.

5 hits, and it can double attack once or twice.

Would be interesting to see what a thf/mnk gets for TP return on an Assassin's Charge Raging Fists. 5 hits, +2 +2 from triple attacks, should be 9 hits unless it gets capped at 8.

That's a good question. A thf can do this easily too. Just equip tatami, get TP, and count your TP return from combo.

I believe I've done this before, but was unable to use H2H WS while single-fisting it. It's been awhile since I tried it, but I seem to recall this being the case.

I know for a fact that I can equip a shield without equipping a main weapon.

Same. I keep looking at my seals thinking, "Hellz no, I'm not gonna waste my seals unless they announce a patch or something." Then again there is the other side of me who is willing to take the 1/1bazillion chance. Of course that same side of me will occasionally buy a lottery ticket when it gets over $100 mil.
