Well, even with widescan, the mobs are really bunched up in a tight group soemetimes, and even if you have it "tracking" an enemy, you might not know which one its tracking.

If you don't want to .dat edit, the list in the files is the same as the order in a RNG's widescan list. They could just pull 2 > skip 2 > pull 2 > skip 2 in the order they appear on the list.
You'd have to pull them like
    1st listed
    1st listed
    3rd listed
    3rd listed
    5th listed
    5th listed
    7th listed

You could do /ta <scan>, and Kuno is right the RNG would have to pay attention to what order they are pulling.

What would they do to you if they noticed you changed the names I wonder? If you really wanted to, though you might as well change them to "Good Puk" and "Bad Puk", or perhaps something less conspicuous, like Puuk and Pukk.

This same idea is something I've considered doing with the Fomors in Silver Sea (specifically, the 8 on the first floor that run around in the big room), though I'd have to number/letter each fomor on floor 1 and just see which 8 are those. Haven't gone there in a while and I gotta remind myself to do it when I do go.

As long as you don't use any <t>'s in your macro, it should be impossible for them to tell. This is no different than any other DAT modding people have ever done. If they find out you're doing it the worst possible scenario is they patch it.

Good information regarding which mobs to pull, and which not to.

I'm not *too* familiar with .dat modding (..though I probably should be) -- is there a way to tell them based on how they're lined up in the room, or?

I suppose in worst case I could sub /RNG to Thief, but with SJs locked, I'm not sure that widescan would be available..

Unfortunately no. Luckily the DAT modding is stupidly easy. Open up Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\ROM4\1\72.DAT in Notepad (make a backup first). Turn on word wrap in Notepad. You'll see a bunch of obvious mob names going across and down. Change the name of each mob to something unique, but make sure you don't change the number of letters in the mob's name. Since there's only 16 Puks in the DAT, you can use a hex digit (0, 1, 2, ..., 9, A, B, ..., F) and only change the last letter. So Pu0, Pu1, ..., PuF (number them across first, then down). then close and save the file and that's it.

Use POLUtils (google it and it's the first link) and go to NPC/Monster Lists -> Ruins of Alzadaal -> Zhayolm Remnants and when the enemy list loads, make sure the list goes top to bottom in the number you ordered it in. (e.g. Pu0 should be first on the list, PuF should be last on the list.).

Does carby pull work on Archaic Machinery (Gear, Gears, Chariot)? Do any of them aggro Job Abilities that would prevent carby pulls?

I have one now, but it's kind of ghetto and mobs have really fucked up names (I changed every mob in the zone, not just 1F mobs). I'll edit it to be only 1F mobs, and I'll change the names to something better like "Puk (Drop)" and "Puk (No Drop)". Won't be until later tonight though.

Follow these first steps to find the file so you know where the hell you are in the process. It basically goes from this (not as messy looking in Notepad):
    [code]none Puk

    http://kalia.ultimals.com/Salvage/72.DAT

This adds the text "<cell>" to the end of every mob's name if they drop cell. So in the first room you'll see either "Puk" or "Puk<cell>". etc

MAKE SURE you backup your previous 72.DAT, and MAKE SURE you open this file with POLUtils before actually entering zhayolm remnants. If POL Utils displays the mob list with <cell> names at the end, it will work in game also.

Thanks to an LS mate of mine for doing this for me :D

Sorry there was an error in that DAT, so if you downloaded it already, download it again. Use POL Utils to confirm that every 2 mobs are marked with <cell>.

The trigger does not change as long as the version is the same. So, if you're on version 1 and you kill First Rampart and it was wrong, then next time you get version 1, don't kill First Rampart again. On the other hand, if First Rampart doesn't unlock it for version 1, it may be the correct one for version 2.
I'm guessing this might be the key to finding the 4th Floor Madame. Although Airforce is just reporting that it 'randomly pops' that doesn't at all seem likely with the number of groups that have gone through that floor. And the fact that no other NM that drops lvl15 gear is a chance pop. Maybe you need to get on the correct version of the floor, and it just pops. Or maybe you need to get on the correct version, and then clear the Poroggos. But even that would leave it at chance, because if you pick the rampart that ports you up, you're boned.

Well I went through both versions of the floor about 3 times each before we got the correct rampart. So it isn't just on one of the two versions randomly, we always checked. My guess is clear 2nd version of the floor and kill rampart. idk though, i wish the guy who reported the drop would respond to my message on Aircommand's BBS about how they popped it. We need people to go through and clear 4F a few times, 1st version and 2nd version.

Does Arrapago share a similar property of only certain Qutrubs dropping cells? It would certainly help without spending a lot of times since most Qutrubs drop jack.

Just wondering since Zhayolm and Arrapago are mirrored zones.

Bhaflau and Arrapago are mirrored zones. Anyway, I don't think Arrapago is like that, there's times I cleared the whole floor and got 0 weapons. Which obviously wasn't the case other times.

It MAY be the case that certain Qutrub always drop something, but its' random what it is. But I'm still a little skeptical even about that

Qutrub definately aren't guaranteed to have a drop.

    4th floor Madame:

    ゼオルム4層は条件を満たしていれば4層にワープしたときからNMは沸いてます。 5層も条件を満たせば5層で何もしなくてもNM沸くとおもいます。 細かいことを調べてないのではっきり言えませんが。。
For the 4th floor, with the condition satisfied we warped to the 4th floor and the NM just popped. the same thing didn't seem to work on the 5th floor, but we dont' have detailed information.

I was hoping for a little better answer, but it seems like maybe he got the 4th floor Poroggo after being warped back to the beginning of the floor? idk, guess we just need people to go rape the 4th floor about 10 times in various ways.

Tried to get to version2 of 4th floor north but apparently we killed the 'correct' rampart on the first try. We proceeded to try to clear the 5th floor north.

The first small room has about 10-12 gears that are sleepable and quite squishy. The south room has 3 ramparts that have rather high HP and summon mindgazers just as hard. The second small room has a easy rampart and about 8-10 gears that are sleepable. The big room has about 10-12 gears that are easy but NOT sleepable by brd blm or rdm. Nothing popped after killing the entire 5th floor north EXCEPT the chariot. We got the chariot to 5% and got timed out so unable to confirm if a NM pops upon clearing the entire 5th floor north.
