Shell does not reduce breath damage.

I guess technically, it doesn't work on Needles attacks either. So I guess it doesn't doesn't even matter what kind of damage you consider it, because either way it doesn't follow all the rules for that type of damage. However, since Breath damage is supposedly based on some properties of the target vs. the enemy, I think Discoid is closer to Needles than it is to Breath, since Discoid doesn't seem to care about any of the stats of the target.

Well I would think that a single person having been hit for exactly 4,400 with no Shell, and another group getting hit for exactly 4,400 * 200 / 256 with both 3 and 4 people in range of the AoE while Shell IV was on was enough evidence.

Better evidence to me was 5 people in my LS getting hit, one was a THF not in the main party and didn't have shell, and took more damage than everyone else who did have shell.

Do you remember the exact numbers?

That one sentence from Sci did a better job explaining Discoid to me than the last two pages of math, especially after reading all this "now it's 3259 needles, oh wait 960 needles, oh wait 2382.4 needles" crap.

Sounds like it's Current HP (cap at 4400) / Number of People in Range or something.

Err, I don't think Current HP has anything to do with it. It sounds more like

4,400 * (Magic Damage Reduction) / Number of people

Considering the effect range of Discoid, is it conal or pure AoE around the target or pure AoE around the source?

If it is a front-facing move only that is conal, you could probably win the fight just by rotating through tanks; when one eats a bad discoid, just put a new tank in.

I don't remember with full certainty, but I'm pretty sure my group was spread out around him when we all got hit.

None of us had subjobs (and hence no shadows), so can't say there either Will probably be a while till we do it again, since we want to spam Arrapago to get some completed pieces.

It also died really fast, much preferable to a Poroggo NM.

Unless the other two accounts meant 1000 / 3 (sounded like they meant 1k to each person though), I would assume for them it was more around 3000. Mine was at 5% when Discoid when off, that's why I keep thinking it's HP based.

If they meant everyone took like 300 damage each then I'm retarded and the Nyzul one is just a wuss.

Bingo. It was a wuss. I don't know what's up with that BST+Pet taking so much from it.

Did this zone again last night, timed out at 48% I don't know how people make it up with so much time, we're all practically naked and still only have 10 min or so. I have a few ideas for how to shave off some more time, but is there something I'm completely overlooking?

Anyhow, the reason I'm posting is regarding the 6th floor again, since someone asked a while ago to try different orders of clearing to nail down exactly what it necessary. This time we cleared all the 3-gears, one 1-gear, and the chariot. I tried the door and it wouldn't open, then we killed the other 1-gear and it opened. So it seems pretty conclusive at this point that the requirement to open the door is just to kill everything on the floor, minus the ramparts, which is what I think everyone suspected at this point anyway.

I've been tossing around a few ideas for how to make it up faster as well.

1: Use the modified DAT file trick on 1F. You can in theory go from killing 64 mobs on the floor to killing 32, and still be totally decked out.
2: Never fight the 1F Mamools
3: Never fight the 1F Poroggo Gents.
4: Split farming on 1F, and split farming on 2F.
5: Use the modified DAT trick to figure out which mobs on 2F drop items, and which mobs don't.
6: On 3F, gather the Mamool x4 in each room and do a timed Thundaga III x5 to kill all of them.

Not sure what else can be done.

ive only tried this zone once.. and we ended up spending way too much time on the second floor farming armor

we got to the 5th floor to farm gears for some cards with like 30min left..

not sure how hard this boss is.. but maybe its possible to farm the first floor till everyone has what they need.. then farm 2F SE for some body armor.. then run up to the boss?

only problem is hp/mp cells... maybe farm some mamool on 3F while 2 people run to the porter (had someone agro the rampart on purpose while i ported up)

Better yet, don't farm any armor, and just skip the whole 2nd floor. HP/MP is a requirement, Armor isn't really.

Edit: With the exception of maybe some rings/earrings for the BLMs.

Bah everytime I see a new post in this thread I keep hoping for some new info on the Madames.

So did anyone try running up to floor 4 and 5 real fast to confirm Madames yet? I'd like to know where the Madame pops and how much else you'd need to deal with. For example, pulling the Madame out of the room of Gents would most likely require a sac pull. And the last info people posted here was getting to 4F in less than 45 mins wasn't fast enough. But I still haven't seen if it was the N or S side.
