    Doesn't explain why route-114 is reliable, unless we've just gotten lucky.
    If someone wants to reproduce run#11 above, please do.

    As an aside, if you exclude NMs and all pets/summons, both route-114 and run#11 killed exactly 96 mobs on the first 4 floors.

    I was thinking luck. It has the most overall kills on floor 2 of any other run. If you count mamool, it has 25/36, which is about a 70% pop chance. Granted, a few of your runs were like 23/36, so not really sure. I just don't see an obvious pattern though, especially once you take into consideration the 49 mamool run (although if you take 1F+2F+3FS-3FN+4FS), that number is divisible by 5 (although negative).

    Have any of the unsuccessful runs had total # of kills a multiple of 16?

    Yup.
    #7->69
    #8->103
    #9->96
    #10->96
    #11->96

    Kinda weird since that was totally unintentional.

    Bah, #11 is 1 mob short of being 64 mobs if you don't count 3F N. Could it be off-by-one?

    Re: Salvage: Zhayolm Remnants

    For all we know, it could be a dice roll with our favor increasing the more Mamools we kill. It would be like the ENM moblin in Movapolos: the more gil you trade him, the higher your odds of winning (up to 50%).

    However, that implies the 114 mob run succeeding so far may just be luck, even if it's better luck than other runs.

    Aurik's #10 and #11 are only slightly different and the boiling point only a few Mamools off (the winner totalling 49 Mamools, the loser 51). The 114 mob run pops 5FS with even fewer Mamools, but more Poroggos. Maybe we should start taking Poroggos into account. They are beastmen as well, and no other zone has beastmen appearing as high as the 4th floor (Arrapa-pro tip: Qiqirn aren't part of the Undead Swarm).

    But Qutrub are Lamiae. And their drops work for the SL wildcat badge quest. What makes you think they're not part of the Undead Swarm?

    And why does that matter anyway? O.o Qutrub aren't as high as the 4th floor.

    All this strange fixation on mamool holding the key poping the madame.....

    In a half daze inspired inpiration I was reminded of FFXII. There was a wolf that would spawn after a certain chain was obtained prior to zone.

    Perhaps to get the 5th floor to pop you need a 'virtual' chain 5 on one or more of the previous floors?

    Re: Salvage: Zhayolm Remnants

    Light bulb moment? Might be pulling shit outta my ass here but who knows...

    So there are 4 Ramparts on 4th floor. You engage one and the other 3 disappear. Where do they go? 5th floor room that the Madame pops in yea? (SE Design hmmm) The 3 ramparts in that room do nothing, but I think they are the clue to the Madame. The manner in which you kill the 4th floor Rampart may, in addition to opening the portal, be the condition to popping 5th floor madame on both sides.

    In everyone's testing, has anyone ever paid attention as to which "mode" you killed the Rampart in on 4th floor? When i say Mode, i mean as in "Open Door" and "Closed Door" modes? Open = Blue foggy shit, closed = nothing

    Things to Test

    - Which Mode did you kill the Rampart in? Open or Closed?

    - How long did it take you to kill the rampart after claiming red?

    - How did you pull the Rampart? Magic/Melee/Voke? (Pulling more shit out said ass)

    - How many times did it switch from closed door to open door before it was dead?

    - How long did it take you to kill the Rampart after it switched from one mode to the next? (might be irrelevant depending how you look at it)
    - Does anything trigger the mode switch? ie Magic/Melee Damage? (This is feel is pretty random but yea)

    - Did you use Magic Damage or Melee Damage on ramparts?
    - Which type of damage (Magic/Melee/DoT) killed the rampart and in what mode?
    - Did you use DoT?

    These are pretty feasible tests imo and can be done in line with other tests that have been mentioned in the previous posts otw up to 5th floor. It kinda fits more along the line of Salvage design of "Do this, and that happens." Feasible?

    It's fairly easy to pull a chain 5-esque killset on the mobs in Zhayolm though. I don't think that it would be a sole pop condition.

    Besides, are there any other NMs in Salvage that work on "hidden" pop conditions? The ones I think of are either random spawns, or have definite X-action causes Y-spawn.

    Re: Salvage: Zhayolm Remnants

    Did the 114 run last night, but ended up doing a couple things different. Killed all the mobs listed except the card NM. Accidently agroed the Madame on the 3rd floor, slept it and went up. And popped 3 marids on the 4th floor instead of 1 (didn't kill them). Otherwise, killed everything else listed and ported up to 5th floor in around 79:00 (don't have exact time, sorry). So killed the same mobs -1, but left 3 asleep not listed.

    5th floor Madame wasn't up.

    Don't know if that information helps at all, but as there were only a couple things different between our run and the one listed, figured it be good to post for comparision purposes.

    EDIT: I'm assume its the fact we left two marids slept, but I have alot less experience at this zone than most so could be wrong.

    Re: Salvage: Zhayolm Remnants

    I know it was mentioned before somewhere in this 50 page beast, but can someone post their time itinerary for popping 4f N madame and killing the boss?

    We finally got 25 Usu feet to drop off of LAC last night making one of our NINs 2/3 on Usu feet with only the 15 needed. I'd like to have enough time to do madame + boss since doing a run just to get 15s seems like a waste.

    I figure there is enough time to clear all 4 inner rooms + maybe 1 room of Ziz on Floor 1. Then port up on Ziz wing, kill enough lizards to get belts for both MNKs, maybe kill wyverns for head or legs for more haste on Floor 2. Then have people clear mamools to the south while someone runs to the north porter on Floor 3.

    I'm mainly just curious how people use their time on Floor 1 and 2 since you're under a crunch.

    In our 114 mob run that popped madame (and included card NM) we popped 3 marids and only killed one I've said this like 3 times.

    The socket NM must be the key difference.

    Remember this update, way back when?

    FINAL FANTASY XI Update (Dec. 21)

    At the following time, we have performed a version update of FINAL FANTASY XI.

    *This update consists of a version upgrade of the client program (Xbox version will not be updated). When you press the play button after the time stated below, the version upgrade will begin automatically. Please follow the instructions on the screen.

    [Affected Period]
    Dec. 21, 2006 4:50 (PST)

    [Affected Services]
    FINAL FANTASY XI

    [Important Update Details]
    - Measures have been taken to maintain area stability for the congested assault and salvage areas.

    The following issues have been addressed:

    - When changing areas or logging back into the game after calling an adventuring fellow, the following issues would occur:
    1) Adventuring fellow would not cast spells when it was not in combat mode.
    2) Remaining time available for the fellow was not counted properly.

    - Salvage related issues:
    1) Members who were disconnected from the game during a warp to the next floor would not be warped to the destination upon relogging in.
    2) Numbers of defeated notorious monsters within the Zhayolm Remnants were not counted properly.
    3) Notorious monsters within Bhaflau Remnants would not spawn as expected.
    4) Some monsters in Arrapago Remnants would not return to the original positions when they are not in combat mode.

    - An issue where results of mining, logging, and harvesting would be displayed before the motion is completed. ("PlayStation 2" and Windows versions only)

    - An issue where a forced termination may occur when text is displayed in the chat window. ("PlayStation 2" and Windows versions only)

    - An incorrect text, "[target name]" within the command help explanation section.
    Why would they care to count the number of NMs defeated, unless something else depended upon it.

    Re: Salvage: Zhayolm Remnants

    That's a very weird update message, and I can't say I remember it. However, it has been popped lots of times without ANY NMs having been killed.

    Re: Salvage: Zhayolm Remnants

    Could fit the idea that 6F madame is based on NMs defeated on previous floors. Or maybe they're counting 1F Poroggos and 1F/2F Mamools as NMs? Maybe 3F rampart, too.

    Re: Salvage: Zhayolm Remnants

    Well, since all mobs in Salvage (like all other instances) con "Impossible to guage!" it stands to reason that all of the mobs in the zone could be considered "notorious monsters". Either way it reinforces the theory that the number of mobs you kill (be it normal, beastmen, or special) is somehow significant.
