Sure the game has the warnings at X, Y, Z for many of them, but having the precise value is usefull. This does make you question why its not being drawn in the corner of the screen like pretty much every other FF game that had a 'timed quest' would.
it would be another thing the game would have to sync with the server (eating a little bit more of their precious 56k recommended spec), since currently the time remaining is kept serverside.

they could send the timestamp to your client and let it track that way, but that's not the way they setup the timed instance events at first (BCNM) so they're probably stuck with grandfathered code now.
They already do it with Dynamis/Einherjar entry items. A simple 'temp' item that does the same, heck just tag it onto the fireflies for the zone. That would be grand if the fireflies would show time remaining. However its most likely a PS2 limitation....

This recent talk about Zhayolm is inspiring, its our last undiscovered section of salvage. Keep up the good work with the experiments!

Question on time divying between floors...

Was wondering the best way to squeeze an extra 10 mins out of our run to give more time for boss. Setup was:
    2x mnk/nin
    whm/blm
    brd/whm
    cor/rng
    blm/rdm
    rdm/blm
    nin/war

We split up on the first floor, killed the first two inner rooms together then one group killed magic stuff and the other went to kill the other inner two rooms and SJ wing. Magic wing pt cleared fairly fast, so we finished up weapons and started on ability (should've went to SJ instead of weapons/abil). We zoned up at about 22mins.

2nd floor, we killed all of S-W wing for feet, and a couple in each room to pimp out the mnks. We zoned up at about 43 mins. this seems to be where we might/should shave some time off.

3rd floor, killed every single mamool in the south wing. Wanted hp, and we got more mp than we needed

4th took about 5 mins to kill rampart and zone up.

    5th sac trained. 5 minsish

6th. Took us a while, 20~30 mins I wanna say. We ended up zoning up with about 8~9 minutes to spare.

What had me a little mad/worried... is that even with 2 2hring monks (monk roll and chaos roll, double march), we only got it down to about 75% before we ran out of time. Nin died early on to discoid, people didn't move up close enough to absorb damage.

Anything that seems wrong with the setup/strat? >.> This group seems to be really capable (finally, after 3 months of getting a solid group ;, just seem to be a tad slow. Both mnks have black belt, everyone else nothing amazingly special.

I think there is enough evidence that the game checks the number of NMs killed after you kill every NM and not only when you check doors e.g. 1st floor gents pop as soon as you kill all mobs in the wing.

couldnt the whole "NM count" thing be for another NM tho? I remember people getting stuck on the 6th floor even though killing the chariot/gears would've been the obvious thing to do (didnt some groups report that they even cleared the floor?).

What works fastest for us here is to port up NE, clear the room, then have RNG (or in some cases BLM/RNG, and in your case COR/RNG) pull a mob from the cluster of 2-3 in the other rooms, it will be the topmost one listed on widescan of the cluster; or just kill from that set until one drops and ignore the others if no widescan. Wyverns link sight and lizards by sound so sleep any links and move to the next room, should not take long, and in the end you have both tanks fully geared, plus most people with rings/waist, and maybe an extra body or two.

If you're aiming to get HP for everyone (which isn't a bad idea since it's not hard) port up to the 4th floor south when you are 3 cells short of full HP. Zenist there drops 3 with 100% rate as been said here before many times.

It sounds like your NIN is an afterthought, and your MNKs are your primary tanks for the boss? If the NIN can come on another job, BLM and RNG are good for 6th/boss, and THF is good for getting more gear cells to drop 2nd floor and HP/MP 3rd floor as well as other crap like acid bolts even if you don't put him on gears/boss. Alternatively, if the NIN doesn't have many other jobs but one of the MNKs do, NIN+MNK tank on the boss is perfectly viable as well (in fact we just got done with a 4N madame > Boss run 30 min ago that was NIN MNK THF BLM RDM WHM BRD).

My group has: PT1 mnkx2 whm brd smn rdm. PT2 drk whm blm brd

You are very fast on 1F but I always feel that splitting is a waste of time. We just kill everything in sight ( inner room then first room in the wing). we skip the NE wing at first and do JA+SJ ones, then come back to NE magic and kill until we get everyone their magic. It takes you 22 min for 6 people, I think it takes us the same time but with close to 8-9 people.

You spend too much time on 2F. What we do is just clear the room we warp in (NE) and warp on 3F immediatly. The boss is very easy you dont need much gears for your monks at all ( the ones in NE room will suffice). Last time we did him, monks only had weapons, back and rings (due to lizzards only droping ranges and belts -.-) and we had 5 minutes remaining after killing it. If after clearing this room you don't have range attack yet ( for bards) then it will suck and you gotta indeed pull 1 or 2 mobs from each room to get haste gear. Thats less than 10 min on 2F if you get range, if not then say 15 min.

3rd floor treasure hunter really help. even TH1. We usually clear all mamools too.

6th floor. we took a lot of time on our first tries then figured out that we gotta roam in the room. we roam clockwise and kill tripple gears then pull the single, then the chariot. It's doable in 15-20 minutes without rushing. When chariot is dead, rebuff, haste, bard songs etc. warp and do boss asap.

boss floor: even with monks w/o any haste gear but belts, killed in 8 mn I believe ( 2 mnk+drk meleing). It was a darkness magic burst fest with BLM bursting every 30 seconds lol, very fun. Previous attempt had 2 monks melee only, won in 12 minutes.

That, I did not know ._. Was mainly going off of wiki last night, thought I've read most of this thread tho. Guess not heh.

That in itself probably would've helped a tad since we skipped all but the rampart on 4th floor.

Next time gonna try to have either me as bard or the cor/rng pull a mob cluster from the 2nd floor rooms and have the pt kill in the porter room. We had only cleared the first room we ported up in, and only 2 or 3 in all the others. Walking time from one room to the next probably hurt us the most.

    Thanks for the replies!

    edit: went again tonight, beat boss with one minute left :D usu head and war legs. wanted macha slops and marduk boots ;;

For the record, I analyzed my timekeeping method again and I was slightly wrong. The exact time to use for when you'll exit if you use timestamp is 1hr 39min 58sec after the timestamped log entry of "Commencing transport" or "The order has been given to invade". In other words, 2 seconds before that shows up is your start time (ie: when your instance loads).

Each circle represents a different Candescence. I thought this was already known? Each zone and even the one in Al'Zhabi light up different, maybe even the one in Nyzul or the 6th circle was the Gordeus. I forget the whole thing but each circel if just a different zone I believe.

    Re: Salvage: Zhayolm Remnants

Did a Silver Sea Remnants run yesterday and I got Marduk's Legs 25(have 35) and a BLM got Morrigan's Legs 35(has 15). So tomorrow we want to try to have a chance at getting both of the items we need from Zhayolm. For the 15 Marduk's Legs you have to get to the 4th floor in 30 minutes. How hard it this? How much time do you spend farming on each floor? What's the best things to farm if you have to make it to the 4th floor in 30 minutes. My other question is, after rushing to the 4th floor in 30 minutes, would we be able to farm good enough and get the things we need for a Boss fight? The boss fight seems pretty easy... you can Stun Discoids, right? How high is the resist rate on Stun, for say, a RDM/DRK? Thanks in advance

I realize these questions have probably been asked several times, and I read through this thread a lot and I read on FFXIClopedia but I don't want to read through 60+ pages :/

    Re: Salvage: Zhayolm Remnants

How many people are you entering Zhayolm with? You'll want to get all SJ/Magic/Ability/Weapon on 1F for people that need them, that might be time consuming depending on your group size, I'd probably say it's pretty tough to do boss and 4FN madame in the same run but if you were attempting it, the best route would probably be kill minimum amount of 1F to get everyone magic that needs, same for SJ, weapon, and ability then port NE room, kill lizards, port, kill maybe one or 2 rooms of the south area for some HP+MP on 3F, port up. It's probably possible to do, but u'd likely have to skimp on 1F farming or cut out the 3F farming I mentioned. If you skip 3F u could farm HP/MP by killing wrong rampart and refarming mamool until you got what you need, but it'd still be very tight on time for both boss and this madame imo. Could probably spend 20 min on 1F, 5ish on 2F, flee to porter for 3F north then you might pop the 30 minute madame.

    edit:
As for Zhayolm boss, I've never played BLM or RDM/DRK on it so I can't tell you how hard it is to stun, didn't look to be too fast of a move, proper positioning is enough to cut discoid down to low damage, stuns would definitely help though. It builds stun resistance so I'm not sure how effective RDM/DRK would be for it. Imo, I'd just bring RDM/WHM for Curagas and leave the stunning to 1-2 BLMs if you bring any.

If you have enough Monks, try splitting up on the first floor so that you send each one with a healer to try and get the most out of the little time that you do have. You probably won't have a ton of time for armor on 2F, but if you have it, go for it. My group just skips through 3F, having a runner port us up. Maybe kill some of the stat Mamools to the west while you're waiting to be brought up, since they like to drop HP or MP cells.

Yeah, using stun from the menu is faster. Can stun Restoral the same way too, which is pretty much impossible to do from a macro. At least for me.

Basically, if you feel he have TP ready, wait a few seconds and press stun so that BBC is targeted. If you see him using Discoid, press enter. If not, feel free to nuke or w/e.

I completely disagree with the splitting up tactic. In my experience, it slows things down a lot more than ripping through mobs with more people. The key to doing anything in Zhayolm is making do with the Weapon and Ability cells you get from the starting chest and inner rooms (so 6 and 5 or 6 respectively), only killing outer rooms of Ziz and Bugards. Bugards unnecessary unless you're doing boss, also (for Stoneskin on mages). The mobs die quite fast, so as long as you know what you're doing, staying together is better. This applies to Arrapago too.

If anyone can or is willing to point me in the right direction to get this info, tyvm. Am new to boards, so be gentle. 8)

Uh... I don't see how you can wipe to Madame, everyone should just stay in range of charm AoE so you will all get charmed when she uses it. Just keep DOTs on and repeat as needed. When low you can have someone run out of range completely just in case she charms at 1% so that person can claim it/kill it so you won't risk it dying to DOT.

If she is charming far too often, pull 1 melee off, with only 2 MNK as DD they don't TP that often.
