How about holding 4 and when he summons the 5th kill one of the 4 quickly so you should be at a 1/2 chance again? Think that would work? After all 1/2 is loads better than 1/6![]()

You sure it stops summoning?
Feeler Antlion has the exact same setup as these NMs. (Feeler Antlion, 5x Executioner, Alastor) And yet I've seen my share of fun Alastors with way more than 5 executioners out at once XD
you mean the Solid Snake way, right?I've gone through the entire floor without aggro'ing. Real tough, though.
they all true sound, or sight?
Has anyone killed every single Gear(s) on the 3rd floor?
Has anyone tried killing Archaic Charior on the 4th floor, and THEN trying to kill a warping Gear and see if it no longer Invincibles at 5%?
1. Yep. We came from the NE and killed all the trolls in the NE path + North Room + all the Gear(s) from both the East and West Side. Only thing left on the entire floor was the Slot in the middle room.Originally Posted by divisortheory
2. We've never had the gears invincible... maybe it's just time based? If you don't kill them fast enough they warp?
Yeah, we specifically tried it to see if we could force the NM to pop. We didn't wait too terribly long, but we sat there for a good minute or so and watched it lose HP but not summon anything.
We didn't think of leaving 4 up and just killing one over and over again. That might be a little bit difficult with a smaller group though, because even though individually they hit pretty soft, collectively they're eventually going to start staining your healer if they're up for an extended period of time. However, it still seems do-able if someone wanted to try it.
They go invincible when they decide to warp out.Originally Posted by Faranim
To clarify, the only gears that warp / invincible are the ones on the 4th floor. I don't believe there are ANY trolls on the 4th floor. It has nothing but gear(s) and an Archaic Chariot. On the 3rd floor all gears are just normal mobs that you can easily take their HP down to 0%.Originally Posted by Faranim
Were you saying yes to the 3rd floor or the 4th floor? On the 4th, they warp if you aggro them, but someone reported successfully pulling it with a ranged attack, and it invincibled at 5%.
An idea might be that when the 4th floor gears are around 7% or so, stop all damage and hold them while your team of BLM prepares a huge nuke bomb, in hopes that it will completely skip the invincible stage and go straight to being dead. The other idea, like I mentioned, is kill the Chariot first and see if that removes their invincible.
We were able to kill a few gears on the 4th floor. HP isn't what triggers the warp.
yes I know all that. We have cleared the entire 3rd floor. We have also successfully pulled and killed gears on the 4th floor without them ever going invincible (afaik they have never warped on us after being pulled successfully, only warp if aggrod)Originally Posted by divisortheory
Yes, we *didnt* kill it today (someone moved us up to the next floor because we were wiping to it) and the boss had MUCH higher defense. I'm absolutely certain it affects his defense. Melee damage was substantially lower the fight we didnt kill the chariot vs. when we didOriginally Posted by divisortheory
I was wondering about this too. Last time we went, we didn't kill it and the boss had crazy defense. Sneak Attack + Trick Attack + Assassin's Charge + Mercy Stroke did about 400 damage.Originally Posted by Tahngarthor
Doubt it, I noticed no difference in defense or offense the time we killed it and the time we bypassed it.
Was its defense about like I just described?Originally Posted by aurik
No it's been decently soft every time I fight it.
Fought Floor 1 Reactionary Rampart for the first time today, spawned 5 Gate Widows wtf. First one dropped Macha's Cuffs, 2nd and 3rd dropped nothing, Fourth dropped Macha's Cuffs, Fifth dropped Enlil's Brayettes.
Got to the 2nd floor and popped the Rampart there too, 0 Skirmish Perphredo spawns so i guess we just got too lucky on the first rampart. All we had time for afterwards was to farm 1 room on the 2nd floor. Was a nice run since half the group had never done Salvage before.
Just how effective are ranged attacks? i.e. does it seem to be weak/vulnerable to peircing damage?
Also, is there some positive/negative effect from allowing 4th floor single gears to dissapear?
Melee get you to the boss, ranged attacks and melee kill it for you.
It's not that he's particularly weak to piercing, it's that you don't want your melees standing anywhere close to it due to homing missile spam. Homing missile spam can be largely negated with correct positioning, however, so perhaps it's less of an issue now that people figured out that he only uses homing missile when he's facing someone.Originally Posted by Tahngarthor

For you guys that are able to avoid missiles by tanking from the side/back... My group ran into a bit of a problem the other day with this. We went in with 7 - BLM MNK RNG NIN NIN RDM BRD and got the boss to 12% before timing out. We tried the whole tanking from the back thing and it definatley does work, but it likes to change its position to face the tank again like every 20 seconds. I swear we would literally just turn in circles as it kept facing the tanks again...
So is there a special method to preventing it from constantly changing the way it faces?
