Am I retarded or is the socket on the 2nd floor not always up? Saturday we went west after killing the four flans, no DR and no socket in the room listed to have a socket. Today we went east, same situation.
The "slot" on the third floor has always been up, but that's for the area cards from what Ive gathered.
What I want to know is how you went at him with so many melee and so little healing and still managed to get it down so much.Originally Posted by aurik
Considering you basically just need to gear up small amount of needed job and just get minimal functionality for the rest, you do cut a good amount of time on the whole preparation deal and give a lot of time for the actuak boss fight.Originally Posted by Tahngarthor
30k HP without regen isn't too much when you have 1 hour or so to whittle it down.
how? and, where did it pop?Got to the 2nd floor and popped the Rampart there too
My team has never had a problem getting fully geared up and still have a substantial amount of time for the boss. Our problem is dying to the AoE spam (and no, not homing missile, we know how to deal with that). Your team has like no healing. How did you survive? Our issue is survival, not time.
Having only 1 person in aoe range saves a lot of aoe damage.
Agreed- but look at their party setup. Mostly melee- 1 BLM, 1 brd, 1 rdm. taking all the melee except one tank out of aoe range cripples the dmg output. It would take like 30+ AM2s to take it out. maybe if they had 2 BLMs, i'd buy it.Originally Posted by aurik
BTW I thought ppl might be interseted in this diagram I used to explain the tanking setup to my LS.phear the ms paint kskillz

Wait, taking RNG out of aoe range cripples the dmg output? lol...MNK deal decent damage from a range as well (500~/3min) and nobody said that just because you have 2 ninjas they both have to be in range of the chariot.Originally Posted by Tahngarthor

You win.
I would like to know how well that RNG was doing though, since we haven't brought one before.
Rng does well, probably as good or better than blm, depending on how he is geared.
Just read the following about LBC on the Wiki:
It seems at the moment that each level has it's own ways to weaken the mob
- Killing Archaic Gears (3rd level) reduces movement speed
- Killing Archaic Gears (Trio) (4th level) reduces defense
- Killing Archaic Gears (Duo) (4th level) reduces/removes additional effect
- Killing the 4th floor Archaic Chariot substantially lowers defense. (melee did substantially less damage with the chariot not being killed than when it was.)
- Killing NMs weakens boss
Anyone have any evidence to support or refute these claims?
I've said it about 20 times now, we killed the Arc.Chariot one time on our way up, and my melee damage on the boss was the same as when we did not kill the Arc.Chariot. We also killed the Arc.3Gears on the 3rd floor that run, and its movement speed was as fast as ever. Nobody has shown ANY evidence of a NM weakening the boss.Originally Posted by divisortheory

I mentioned more than just Archaic Chariot in that unmodified copy/paste. And you didn't say the rest 20 times, or 1 time as far as I could tell.Originally Posted by aurik

I see at least 3 mentions by me that these rumors seem to have no credibility in this thread alone.Originally Posted by divisortheory
a rng could definately put out more DoT than a blm for sure, but the TP gain is still pretty ugly when you're giving it like 20 tp per shot. Its a fairly difficult mob to tank, and any sort of damage that minimizes its TP moves is a plus in my book. i still prefer blm DD.Originally Posted by Stellar
I went with kaeko's group when we were trying to test tanking it from behind. was really a pain in the ass sometimes cause it'd turn then use homing 1 second later :\ really wasn't as reliable as we'd like it to be.
What we've noticed in several fights so far is that it doesn't turn towards the tank until 70% HP, then it readjusts every so often. By the end of the fight, it is turning to the tank every 10 seconds or so.
I'm wondering if the period of its readjustment is a constant time, depending on its HP. IE, never adjust @70-100HP, adjust every 30 sec @50-70, every 15 sec @20-50, every 5 sec @0-10.
Next time we fight I'm going to use a stopwatch to test this.
actually we noticed that too, we just thought it was a fluke. like for the first 10 minutes it never turned, then it started turning more and more through the fight. we kept trying to adjust and figure out what the hell we were doing right at the beginning.
Interesting notes. Did my first run ever last night and was lucky enough to receive a pair of Njord's Trousers.
Aurik, how many people does SML usually take along in their runs? Do you find that it is easier with a smaller group or do you try for a full alliance?
