I notice you're bound in that SS. So you still get the additional effect even though it was "annulled"?

Yea status effect still landed each time. Homming Missle probably hit me 4 or 5 times, but I didn't proc at all.

Really? Every time I've done Bhaflau, the 10 3rd floor Flans in the big room are already in spiked head mode when they first pop. I wonder if that's significant.

Would it be the first case of path selection affecting next floor?

There's no barrier on either side of the large room that would keep you from going to the west hall from the east hall, or vice-versa.

On the north side, if you entered from the NE the door to the NW section is sealed. I don't see why it would be different on the South side with the flans.

I could swear there aren't any doors coming from the south until you get to the slot room. Must be getting used to seeing that "DO YOU WANT TO OPEN THIS DOOR?" dialogue box, or maybe I'm getting the Alzheimer's.

I had a question on tanking... I've seen several shells that are able to kill the bosses of the areas we know how to get to (and a few JP shells that are beating things we somehow still don't know) and I was curious how the heck you tanked them. Straight tanking seems like suicide thanks to taking 500 damage per strike and blink tanking seems equally as bad since it might as well have Hundred Fists on for the attack rate it has.

really? They seem to attack rather slow for us <.<; our tanks had no problems keeping shadows up =/

and use defense food. They have high base damage but low attack >.>

Make sure to land elegy and slow II.. A Nin/drk with -29% phys dmg and tav tacos should take around 200 dmg per hit from the bosses. If you use Nin/war with defender, will be more like 150 a hit...

so basically killing the gears popped the rampart.. not sure what caused it ,but may have to do with how fast you reach the floor? [or do they mean how fast you kill the gears, similar to 4th floor in that you must kill the gears fast or else they warp]. Cockatrice NM popped but no drop

    did i understand that right?

If he got 700 damage Cannibal Blades, then my Sharpshot would probably put out over twice that in Dazes, lol.
Late reply, but for some reason Cannibal Blade (and Spirits Within from what I've been told) is broken on the early Bhaf floors. as well as the puppet in general. CB can crack 1k and its melee strikes on VE hit for TW cap damage, sometimes more. It will do more than Daze on these floors, the mobs have some rather weird behaviors. Once you hit the scorp floor the damage normalizes.

Okay, so regarding flan and spikes. They seem to get them sometime between 80% and 85%. My belief is that the north and south (magic weak) flan will lose their spikes when you cast a spell on them. Today I tried to kill in spikes mode with Freeze 2, but cast too early, leaving 15% health left, and it promptly left spikes mode.

Remembering a previous run where a flan lost spikes after the rdm cast thunder 3 on them, we tested on the north flan, by casting blizzard 3 after it got spikes. It immediately left spikes mode. However, at some later point it recovered spikes, for reasons we aren't entirely certain of. The only things I notice happening at the time was that I stunned it, and someone else provoked it, although it could be entirely unrelated.

We tried a number of different things on the final, west, melee-weak flan to see if we could get it to leave spikes mode, job abilities, WSs, magic, and it stayed in spikes the entire time, so uncertain what if anything will cause those to lose them.

Either way, I'd recommend against casting anything on the magic-weak flan after they get spikes, unless it's for a killshot.

Maybe killing them so fast they don't get to single/double mode? Is that even possible? (That would be the "quick" way of killing them. Another way would be using Restoral to your advantage.)

Also, is this the general rule of flan from the compiled information?: They get angry at a certain point (80-85%?)? Flan weaker to magical attacks (N/S) lose their anger when they are hit with nukes (any magical attack?)? Flan weaker to physical attacks (W/E) lose their anger when they are hit with weapon skills (including stuff like physical blue magic spells, EES, RAs?)?

for my experience with the W/E flans.. they went to spike mode almost immediately and stayed in that mode even as people kept punching their faces in and nuking =/

we couldnt get the S flan to go spike mode at all

i mentioned this before but idk if people have seen the same thing--
for the W/E flans, i noticed it going spike after it used "amorphic spikes" and would occasionally use that move repeatedly as well as use "boiling point" - never losing their spikes for us

i never saw the N/S flans use any of those moves, instead they seemed to only use xenoglossia and synergism exclusively-- we even tried holding the S flan for like 5min and no luck....

bad luck with TP moves or do they have different sets of moves available to them?

I have seen the south flan use Amorphic Spikes, since I remember it confusing our BLMs (they thought it was genuine spiky head mode) and they nuked it away.

I don't think the spikes are triggered or removed by any TP move used by the flan. Each time I've seen them appear / disappear has been unrelated to a TP move. I do think there's some knack to it besides feeding it TP. On one run we had the MNKs stop everything and anyone with innate H2H try to punch the flan that wouldn't spike so that it might spike, never did over the course of like 10 minutes.
