thats what we did last night lol..

2 tanks were sharing hate and running LBC across the room, while 2 blms / 2mnk / 2rng would nuke/chiblast/shoot while a blu/thf would do cannonball...(1rng didnt have hp/sj unlocked, and 1blm didnt have sj unlocked) main problem is that even with kiting, he got off homing missile alot, its range is huge and only 1 time our nin ran out of range from it... other problem is he moves really fast (no rdm for gravity =/) and attacks really fast (only hojo:ni as no bard was present)

might try with having some people change to summoner instead and see how it goes

EDIT: to answer Div's new questions... 1 blm had /nin , the other /whm (but no sj anyways) .. this sunday i'll have 2 more blms at my disposal with /nin... there is like no rdms/brds interested in doing salvage, and the one person who does have those 2 jobs levelled, has blm also so i wanted her to be blm

btw do you kite him just on the left side, or use the whole large room?

yea sorry I missed your post earlier lol. i responded right before this post though, check it.

That being said, I should point out a few things:

    1) Gravity doesn't work on LBC, so no biggie there.
    2) Homing Missile shouldn't matter if it hits people. Even if it only hits like 1 BLM, provided you have proper refresh support (ballad + refresh), you should be able to get hate back really easily.
    3) Not having elegy sucks

When we did this, Homing Missile rarely got off because we wouldn't really wait for him to start chasing us before we'd start running. It was just nuke -> immediately run no matter what -> wait for someone to use their /assist macro to call out who he has hate on -> keep nuking.

Also, you can use the 2 pillars on the left and right sides of the rectangular room and run around them. It tends to confuse him, and messes up his pathing. You can leverage this to make up for his increased movement speed. Sometimes he'll just stop and stare at you, trying to figure out which way to go.

Edit: We definitely use the entire room. we like to keep people as spread out as possible, because like you said he moves fast. So the longer he has to run to get to someone, the more tiem other people have to nuke. And again, use the pillars in the corners as they turn him into a complete idiot.

Edit 2: Last time we did this, all the normal melee (including MNKs, and myself as THF) subbed WAR. This way we could throw in vokes every 30 seconds. The key is that as many people as possible need to spread hate, and people need to be spread out far apart from each other. This way, he spends a large portion of his time just running, and doesn't even have a chance to attack.

He's really not that hard to straight-tank, homing missile does mess with that a bit though

I was left wondering if stun WS have 100% proc rate. With 2 mnk/nin tanks, we could trade off shoulder-tackle duty for the rare case that he charges HM.

It makes me think that Arrapago and Zhayolm bosses are going to be a freaking joke. We had literally no problems keeping HP up using mnk mnk brd rdm whm whm, and that setup alone will probably kill the boss in about 25 minutes barring wipes. You can add rng and blms to the group in an outside party to cut that time down.

We've killed 300 Hunting Wasps now and still no Skirmish Pephredo. Popped rampart right about when night started.

Another attempt at the boss tonight straight tanking to just try and stay alive for a few min. Each time our tanks die almost immediately and we never get to try anything out. It was critical hitting our tank for 600 damage. Didnt even have time to recast shadows after they wore the first time.

As soon as the tank died this time, it used homing missles and put everyone into the red, then just ran around and slowly picked us off.

Does it only use homing missles at 20% intervals if the tank is alive and in the correct position?

no it uses it at any time.

your tanks need practice I solo-tanked LBC as monk.

After our tank went down, we threw our mnk/nin at it, then our thf/nin. They were able to hold it about the same amount of time as our tank. We weren't trying for a win cause we had no time left, but were just trying to get something figured out.

Is there any special foods or equipment you use on mnk to tank it?

When our mnk was on it, he just got hit so hard he lost hate from our cure bombs. How do u keep hate off the mages?

I found Counterstance to do wonders. LBC is going to hit you like a tank (chariot?) anyway, and the counters will serve to keep you in one piece between casting Utsusemi.

For keeping hate, just stay hasted and get Minuets. Damage will hold it.

No special foods, but I do have 22% gear-haste and had march. It's seriously not that hard to blink-tank it. He wipes shadows a lot, but with elegy+slow2 you can still make utsusemi connect with ease.

we have trouble straight tanking it even with 2 NINs. Hate isn't the issue, he just attacks fast and is extremely accurate. Usually both tanks have shadows down with no shadow timers up.

I put a guide recently on my LJ on how to do a small man boss run :

    http://lordwafik.livejournal.com/23680.html

Everyone needs perfect gear really, or near it as much as possible, can't take half assery, it doesn't work. Aurik tanked it fine with all his haste gear, yes he hits accurately, but so does every VT+ exp mob to a mnk if your mnk needs practice, get a BRD, a RDM, go to Sea, find yourselves a WAR VT Aern and tell him to hold it.

Slow2 + Elegy + Paralyze2 coming from the backline really helped alot.

First time we did it with the slow and steady method, we had 2 mnks, 1 of them accidently subbed warrior so aurik had to solo tank it from 100% > 0%, the next time we had a NIN + MNK, so they both shared hate.

If the mages are pulling hate from cures, tell them to be more smart about cures Are they macroing in a full -enmity set for cure4? Are they using the right cures? I as a RDM find myself using cure2 alot, since the whms are doing big cure5's, and cure3's here and there, I don't really need to be spamming cure3's that will not see much effect.
WHM with things like devotion and shell5 maxxed will be most beneficial to this fight, shell5 really cuts down AOE dmg, devotion is a bunch of MP popped outta their asshole.

There's alot of things that could change the outcome of this battle, but it's pretty straightforward once you do it.

MNK/NIN x2 is fine for tanking, You can add more DD but if it gets heavy on the mages, they have to leave the fight - this is where alot of mistakes happen, people not knowing when to pull away to help mages.
    WHM x 2 for healing
RDM x 2 for support healing, debuffing, and general battery duties
BRD x 1 for support, can add in another for the other pt.
BLM x 1 for support, stuns/erases/etc, they go up the tower as a DD and on the boss they let the mnks do the work.

Notice the ratio of support and healing to the actual DD is about 2:6, which is fine. He hits hard, he hits accurately, so work around it in the correct ways ;p

Every Bhaflau win, Silver Seas win, and Zhayolm attempt (losses due to lack of time) that I've been a party to organizing we've straight-tanked the boss with a single PLD/NIN (the slight exception being Silver Seas, where people kite when the PLD is charmed, and then resume straight-tanking when the PLD uncharms and reestablishes hate).

I imagine it's one of those things where people just keep doing what they're most comfortable with, since kiting and MNK tanking seems to work out well for other groups--I've also heard of 3xMNK group tanking Zhayolm boss. On that note, you can small-man Bhaflau with this method as well. About two weeks ago we won with 9 (does 9 still count as small man? lol), PLD BRD WHM RDMx2 BLMx2 MNKx2. We had one MNK on full-time with one of the RDM watching, while the other MNK stayed back, alternating to use their 2Hs, and backing off when their RDM ran low on MP. One BLM nuked/rested while the other watched to stun. Over the course of the 23 min fight, he only tried to use Homing Missile twice. The first time was because the tank was new to tanking the boss, and didn't fully appreciate the importance of repositioning after he turned, so he stood still for a second or two to let ichi complete, and L-BC used missiles--which fortunately I stunned. After that he positioned himself flawlessly, and the only other time we saw it was when I pulled hate during my 2H, he turned to me and shot, and the other BLM's stun resisted, but he only hit myself, the other BLM, and the MNKs' RDM with it, so it was just a free hate-reset for us

How were your monks setup to tank? Equipment wise:

Heres some of what Id think, but some are open for debate:

Weapon: Hades Sainti or CC (Relic too much )
    Head: Walhara Turban
    Neck: Faith Torque or Peacock?
Body: Arhat's Gi +1 or SH+1 or Kirins Osode?
    Hands: Melee gloves
    Legs: Byakko Haidate
    Feet: melee gaiters
    Ring1: Rajas ring
Ring2: Flame ring or merman's ring or jelly ring?
    Ear1: Brutal
    Ear2: Bushinommi or something else?
    Ammo: Tiphia Sting...maybe not

    Yes

I just used a standard merit setup, nothing special. I'm sure I could tweak it to be "better", but it's worked fine so far.

relic, but destroyers would be fine
    turban
    osode
    foragers
    faith
    okote
    bb
    brutal/merman
    sniper +1 x2
    byakko
    dune boots

Only major changes I would do is osode->arhat+1, okote->melee, merman->cassie, dune->fuma. I have all of those, I guess I'll just switch my macros a bit next time maybe.

Was LBC evasive enough to warrant sushi to support counter? I've only MNK'd LBC once, and I don't recall him being all that evasive but its been a while, and I was only meleeing for a brief 100 fists run.

Yeah, we have this same problem. And its especially bad when you have to get cure bombed only a couple of minutes into the fight. Kiting is much more effective for us.

We typically do 1 PLD and 1 NIN, and it seems to work ok for the most part. As much as I hate excluding NINs, though, LBC just seems to have it out for them between all the shadow stripping attacks and fast attack rates.

Do you have elegy and slow2 on at all times? If the answer is no, that is why.
