My Group got LBC to 58% last night with the following setup:

    PLD/NIN
    NIN
    RDM
    WHM
    BRD
    BLM

    MNK
    RDM
    THF
    SAM/RNG
    COR

I was kinda proud considering our damage was essentially DoT spells from the BLM, a SAM/RNG, and a Chi Blasting MNK. The MNK did 2hr, but we had our PLD invinci while he did it and the other melees used their Two-Hours and made it TP spam. We had like 25-30min for this fight, and I felt that we could have killed it with like 2 more rngd dmgers and better use of 2hrs. A few questions:

How do you manage your 2hours? I know MNK come /nin and 2hour it by themselves. Our PLD/NIN confirmed to us that it was beyond easy to stand tank LBC w/ elegy, slow2, and 2x march (then he promptly got a Homing Missle in the face) Our SAM died and our PLD got some DDs dead when HM went off in the middle of his 2hour.

What is that trick that confuses LBC when you kite it around the pillars? We tried it and from what I couldn't tell it wasn't doing anything. Correct me if I'm wrong: the trick is to enter the left (facing LBC spawn point) teleport, then exit down the bottom (away from LBC spawn point) and LBC will get confused and end up exiting out of the left instead of bottom entrance to the telepad. Is there something more? Because that didn't work once with our kiters.

Any suggestions in general for how our group could kill it? Our major problem is a lack of rng/blm, but we usually get enough of any other job you could want.

The problem that Aurik/Wafik outlined before with LBC is if you have a separate tank than your DDs, it's getting too much TP, from what I understand.

Tonight will be our 4th try at LBC, second serious try, and I plan on using their MNK/NIN tank style, since MNK can both do dmg and tank at the same time. The following will be our setup:

    MNK/NIN
    MNK/NIN
    BRD/WHM
    WHM/BLM
    RDM/WHM
    RDM/WHM

    RDM/DRK
    WHM/BLM
    DRK/THF
    THF/NIN
    MNK/NIN

The latter 3 DDs will primarily be to get us equipped faster and help us get to the boss with plenty of time to spare. I've worked with the 2 RDM/WHMs more than I have the WHM outside of tank pt, which is why there's 2 RDMs in my tank party as opposed to 2 WHMs. RDM/DRK will be used if we find the right meds in chests to do an all out attack at the start or end, with chainspell stun, including finding an Assassin's Drink.

I may let the third MNK DD and just pull out when their MP gets low, I'm not sure yet. I'm pretty confident we'll be able to win tonight, but we'll see.

We were kiting, not stand tanking. The PLD tried to stand tank for a few min just to see how easy it was. BTW, could a PLD or NIN just stand tank w/o attacking?

    They could.

If you're kiting, I think the conclusion was to have as many people share hate as possible, so that LBC gets confused and switches target every 5-10 seconds (max). If your PLD is able to keep hate while kiting, I would guess that a sort of figure 8 loop around the teleporters would be the best way to go about it. It seemed to work for our NIN during a trial kiting test. Homing Missile may still hit, but it shouldn't be too big a hinderance if the next person on the hate list has /NIN.

We could have kited him for days NP with just two kiters. I was just wondering how to do that one trick that screws him up around the big pillars.

I was actually dominating the PLD on NIN/WAR, even after being sole target of homing missle, but I credit this to this event being the first time the PLD and I had worked together and I realized far too late I had scaled my enmity+ way higher than his, and he was not getting marches (and maybe not haste) for flash.

It was very one-sided which made it a bit of an issue before AF+1 feet kicked in, once they did though it became terribly easy to fight, but at that point the battle was 5-7 min left.

A few things I will say could have changed the outcome of our fight were:

    A) we finished at 330am and even I cannot coherently remember the last 15 minutes of the run
    B) Enfeebling, 80% of the run all slow / para / blind status effects were inflicted by me and kept on by me (the kiting NIN) and not either of the 2 RDM
    C) Elegy, get it on, keep it on, and sirvente always (shoulda sirvente'd the PLD to balance kiting more)
    D) More MNK/NINs

All in all, for a 11 person run and it being the first time the two tanks and a few others had ever worked together, it went well, but 3am or not people need to stick to their jobs, going 10 minutes without haste while kiting a mob that only I'm enfeebling isn't going to get anyone far.

Hopefully we can try again tonight, up to Ryushii

    Sorry double post, but..

I've been told that much like tanking Fafhogg, if you stand to the side (like the paws) while in front of LBC, he will not use Homing Missle.

    Can anyone confirm?

    I fucked up today on my run, accidentally subbed WAR from doing assault beforehand... The MNK/NIN tanked it just fine solo to 58%, when his Body Boost wore off. He died reasonably quick after that, unfortunately, due to some bad luck. It wasn't a big deal though, we got to the boss with less time than optimal. We would have won if I remembered to sub the right job. ; ;

58% our best run yet though, and the MNK/NIN strat worked out perfectly so far for us.

    Thanks Aurik and Wafik! :D

Thanks. It took the MNK tank about 12 minutes to get it down to 58%, with the help of occasional hits and WS from DRK using Absorb-TP, so probably down to about 65% if it were just him meleeing. With a third MNK next time to expedite floor 1, I think we should be able to down it in about 20-25min with just 2 MNKs meleeing, and we can finally get our LBC win. >_>

NIN tank didn't work, kiting wasn't working because of lack of jobs to get *to* LBC, so now we're trying this, and it's worked out the best so far.

Edit: and as much as I tried to credit you guys for this strat, my group still thinks it was my idea. >_>

We got to about 48-49% in 25 minutes this run, got to top with 11 people then MNK/NIN (our only one) just HAAAAD to leave, before we even engaged

Anyways our 10 people for boss with 25 min was:

    NIN/WAR
    PLD/NIN
    WHM
    BRD
    RDM
    THF

    RNG
    WHM
    RDM
    BLM

So assuming next time we actually have 1-2 MNKs and maybe 1 more BLM should be able to win just fine.

We tried tanking it straight but we had lots of problems from the paralyze TP move, only 1 homing missle while straight tanking but that with para = dead PLD.

Going to keep trying, have any NIN here tried /drk? /WAR is working fine for me, but the extra hate and actual stuns (I don't think many stuns went off from BLM) may be of some extra help. Any input would be nice

2MNK/NIN tanking is alittle too much healing. I go with a group with the relic horn and it's still takes a toll on 2 WHMs, 2 RDMs. So now we just have one MNK/NIN tank and have the other one run in punch a couple of times and run out, repeat. If the MNK/NIN tank dies, we can send the other one in.

Our last run we manage to take LBC out in 20min with 1 MNK/NIN meleeing full time and other melees just doing what they do....

How is your group unable to upkeep 2 MNK/NIN with 2 WHM 2 RDM? We do it with this setup :

    MNK/NIN
    MNK/NIN
    WHM/anything
    WHM/anything
    RDM/WHM
    BRD/WHM * * *

    BLM/WHM
    RDM/WHM
    Misc
    BRD/WHM * * *

    The BRD hops between parties.

2 MNK isn't so bad to heal, so long as the following is observed :

Assign a WHM and RDM to each MNK, so they can -na or erase, keep hastes up, keep slow2 and elegy on LBC (para2 is nice too, para1 I guess aint so bad, havent had Para1 on it before though). Everyone should be moving at a steady pace.

My first guess is that we're not as merited as you guys. I remember when we had two MNK/NIN tanking, our RDM did not have Phalanx2, no shell V (I'm a fully merited melee loltaru....with zero merits in WHM but I go WHM cause).

We ripped it aparted but once it homing missile, we weren't able to keep up with the curing plus two MNK/NIN were running around like headless chickens chasing LBC and caused more homing missile. So now we just limit it to one MNK/NIN to cut down on the chaos factor.

Second guess is that your group is more synchronized. When we first started we had to snatch people from various LSs because no one was interested (this is cerberus, people. We are last on everything ).

But now the group is pretty solid and we're not losing much with one MNK/NIN tanking the boss. The WHMs didn't get hate/die last run, that's a good sign because they are usually the first target after a homing missile.

Aww shame about merits, they're a great help, I suggest trying to get them if possible

But yeah whatever works, some people kite, some people straight tank.

    Merits aren't really needed.

The solo MNK I talked about before did fine with just HTH x8, crit x4, and some Kick Attacks merits I think. I don't believe he has any defensive ones.

I think our WHM only had Shellra IV. We had Phalanx II but I don't think it did anything really worth it. Paralyze II seemed to be the only merit that made any difference to us on the boss.

WHM, RDM x2, and BRD was more than enough to keep him up without running low on MP. The only problem we found was that his HP didn't get topped right away each time. Next time we'll have WHM x2 and RDM x3 on it, but our Storm Fife BRD is gonna be on MNK instead, and we're using a BRD without it. Shouldn't be too bad.

On a lighter note, with our DRK spamming Absorb-TP, it seemed to use a TP move about once every minute with just the 1 MNK meleeing and us doing occasional "fun hits". Before when I tried NIN tanking it, it'd do one about every 25 seconds. Subtle Blow + Chi Blast Penance + Absorb-TP is win.

if possible, you may wanna swap one of those mnk's with a nin.

we pretty much had the exact same setup as you, but i was the nin instead. you won't have more hp, but you'll do about the same (or more) dmg depending on the gear at hand. if missile goes off, then your nin at least has provoke to help stabilize things.

last time it actually didn't homing missile on us at all, but the hate stuck on the mnk cause i didn't have the right food on (he had sushi and i had meat, so i couldn't keep up on hits), and the hate was imbalanced enough to kill him then me at the end. luckily we had a backup pld who could hold it for the last 15% while we killed it.

i'm pretty sure though that had i ate the right food, he woulda been able to get his shadows up, and we woulda tanked it from 100 to 0.

on the subtle blow topic: wizard brings up a pretty interesting point. our last run we had a cor give us mnk's roll (enhanced subtle blow), and it definitely seemed like it made things simpler for us. maybe next time we do that run i can go as drk and try absorb-tp on top of that. i wonder if full dark skill+ gear is necessary though?

also, wizerd: are you saying you're going to totally forgoe bard for your run? i found carnage elegy to be pretty instrumental in keeping a safe pace on LBC.

My ls got up to LBC for the first time the other day and got promptly raped with 2 mnk, tanking, our main problem was that we can't kill anything fast enough on the first floor so we end up skipping all of the 3rd floor which leaves us without stat boosts. with 4 melee punching stuff, things just dont'die fast enough
