We fought it today. The visual difference is pretty obvious ... it's hard to miss (the screenshots really don't do it justice). We killed it, and it dropped a Praecipitatio Cell for us (we did not clear the other Soulflayers in the room). Everything else that he said about it is true too (it hits much harder than the normal Psycheflayers, etc.) ...

Edit: btw, our THF stole a Duplicatus Cell from the Astrologer on the 2nd Floor today, so it is possible to get SJ before the 4th Floor (whether or not that can be done reliably is another issue).

Any particular strat for the kill?

Regarding the cells, perhaps it would be wise to have THF be the FIRST TWO people in the alliance to get abilities (assuming you have 2 THFs of course). This way on the 3rd floor you can send 1 THF north and 1 THF south, and you can make use of 2 steals instead of just 1.

No particular strategy. We just kind of killed it. I told my group like 30 seconds before we pulled that it would hit hard, then they were all surprised when we pulled and it actually did hit hard. -_-

That said, we were about as well-equipped as one could expect to be for a 10-ish person group in Arrapago, so the fight really wasn't too bad. We're extremely fortunate that he didn't decide to -ga 3 us.

We killed Qiqirn Astrologer on 2nd Floor (dropped feet cells), Qiqirn Treasure Hunter on 3rd Floor South (dropped nothing), and Qiqirn Treasure Hunter on 4th Floor (dropped cells ... too lazy to look up which ones, but it's pretty much the same cells he has always dropped).

Since South 4th floor dropped cells does that mean the North one drops a 35?

I've killed both south and north qq on 4f and gotten cells off north and nothing off south.

By the way, the big Psycheflayer used a move called "Reprobation" which is exactly the same as Mind Purge, except it is AoE (dispels all buffs including food from everyone in range). I believe it used the same animation as Mind Purge ...

    Code:
    [2007/02/17 03:14:33] 6b The Psycheflayer uses Reprobation.
    [2007/02/17 03:14:33] 6b 4 of Tornrage's effects disappear!
[2007/02/17 03:14:33] ae The Psycheflayer uses Reprobation.
    [2007/02/17 03:14:33] ae 3 of Kaeli's effects disappear!
    [2007/02/17 03:14:33] 6b The Psycheflayer uses Reprobation.
    [2007/02/17 03:14:33] 6b 4 of Banon's effects disappear!
[2007/02/17 03:14:34] ae The Psycheflayer uses Reprobation.
    [2007/02/17 03:14:34] ae 5 of Geminorum's effects disappear!

    [2007/02/17 03:14:34] 6b The Psycheflayer uses Reprobation.
    [2007/02/17 03:14:34] 6b 9 of Zumi's effects disappear!
[2007/02/17 03:14:34] ae The Psycheflayer uses Reprobation.
    [2007/02/17 03:14:34] ae 2 of Izumigaite's effects disappear!
    [2007/02/17 03:14:34] 6b The Psycheflayer uses Reprobation.
    [2007/02/17 03:14:34] 6b 6 of Freja's effects disappear!
    [2007/02/17 03:14:34] 66 The Psycheflayer uses Reprobation.
    [2007/02/17 03:14:34] 66 5 of Sykes's effects disappear!
I think this move is reserved for NM Soulflayers? Or do the other ones in the zone use it too?

A friend of mine went with a JP group to Arrapago yesterday, and they got Ares 35 body from one of the TH's (north one I believe), so it does indeed drop that.

I asked him the strategy those JP people were in order to try and figure out if they know something we don't. I've asked to join that JP group before, but I only got a "jp onry" response ~.~

The PM my friend sent me when I asked what strategy they used were this:
The run i did with JP we used silent oils and prism powders to completely skip the Qutrubs and kill Lamia for magic (setup was THF PLD BLM BLM WHM SMN 4 more jobs I cant remember)

We farmed all of the NW wing for weapons JA subjob magic ect. then went SE to skeles for HP MAX cells.
We took SE tele up to 2nd floor we cleaned it of the 6 skeletons and 2 lamia then popped princess puddings which dropped 1 Uzukane Armor everytime and nothing more (body)

The strat to doing this was to kite him around the 4 pillars and nuke. He liked to cast Quake...alot...so he was quite easy to kite. Paladin didnt have Provoke yet so Hate was loose but it was still easy to do.

When we left this room to go to porter there was a NM Qiqirn that casts AM Tier4, Tierga 3. He hurts alot and only drops leg/feet cell + he was attempting to warp when we killed him so you might not even get that.

On the next floor we went West/South to fight a Qiqirn Treasure Hunter he runs around and drops bombs. He dropped lvl 35 Ares body armor. He also took most of the time we had remaining. We warped up to the 4th floor killed a few things then were warped out.
That very same group have also beat the arrapago boss on more then one occasion. He shouts for members every day for arrapago remenants. One of the drops they got were the lvl 25 ares feet.

I'mma try join their group again tomorrow ~.~ He apparently accepts pretty much anyone with a bhaflau card, and since I have one I suppose it doesn't hurt to ask...

edit: yeah, reading his PM it seems like its the south qiqirn... I should go to bed. 4:30 AM ~.~

More Info because every little bit helps:

We went South on 3rd floor. QQ NM dropped 2 AGI 3 DEX
4th floor QQ NM also dropped 2 AGI 3 DEX
Pulled Large Psycheflayer mob on 4th floor but timed out / wiped since we didn't have enough healers.

I'm not familiar with Soulflayer mobs in general but the TP moves from the Large one suck ass. The normal ones used an AoE Bio move that almost wiped us out since we only had 3 HP Cells and no WHM to erase.

    Reprobation - AoE Full dispelga
    Tribulation - AoE Blind
Mind Blast - single target damage + Other Effect?
    Immortal Shield - Magic Shield
Immortal Mind - Mag. Atk. Bonus

It looks like the best way to do this zone involves some THFs, some BRDs, and as many RDMs, WHMs, and MNKs you can get your hands on. Every other job requires weapons which wastes time, and without subjobs you REALLY need WHMs.

Mind Blast is a fairly strong paralyze, yet another reason to have a WHM handy. The only special move that I've seen/heard the large Psycheflayer doing is the AoE dispel.

RNGs are also good for the zone, because you'll get some ranged cells on the first floor. And might be able to get out of range of the nasty Soulflayer AoE moves, but I'm not quite sure on the range.

well next time I take a group to this area, this is the alliance I'm gonna bring:

MNK MNK MNK THF WHM RDM
BLM BLM BLM BLM WHM RDM

Might sub a BLM for a RNG, but this area is rather stingy on drops. Monk's dont exactly need weapons, which you only get a handful of. Give MNK's and THF ability cells, and hope to take down most flayers with a SC before they can put that shield up.

Is the shield dispellable or Aura Stealable?

Are we gonna get some SS of these people wearing Lv. 25 Arrapago boss gear soon? If people have been killing it repeatedly now surely we should have some screenshots.

Speaking of Armored Chariot, has anyone gotten any closer to actually seeing it in person yet? Our group has been mostly farming Bhaflau, and attempting Silver Seas (got boss down to 18%ish last time before getting kicked out, and without many deaths or saccing). We haven't really done Zhayolm or Arrapago yet, so once we do... can someone recap the "Mystery of Arrapago"?

i.e. what door/floor specifically no one can figure out how to unlock, and maybe some things for us to try once we do get there? Then at least we can put a few more theories to rest (or prove one of them).
