Pretty sure the way most people choose to do this is just whittling it down and finding a way to deal with the charm phases as they come (randomly). Most group setups I've seen that do this involve a PLD and a good assortment of melee; typically not blm DD heavy.

The group that performed the RNG gank was my group. It was not retarded at the time as it was the first NA kill and it was done with 9 members - still the record as far as I know. Obviously in the sense of farming, it is 100% not viable due to exp loss, so I cannot imagine a group actually using that idea to farm LAC. Honestly I haven't even heard of any other kill using this idea. It was just the first kill so it kind of stuck in people's minds. It is certainly not a last resort; best group I've seen do this can do it with 11 very consistantly with a random assortment of melee and 2 PLDs.

Alot of JP groups do Salvage on Odin and I've seen a good number of shouts for killing this boss. It doesn't sound like those groups have too much trouble with it. I think the key is just being smart and making sure everyone knows to run during charm fests when it starts. It's not really all that deadly, especially when alot of times, Inertia stream will plant the charmed melee.

The gear train was a point of difficulty for us the previous few runs we made with CC as our aim. Eventually just sac pulled them, then grabbed the ramparts to the starting portal room to kill, rinse and repeat for CC proper.

When we won this boss a long while ago before moving on to Zhayolm, we used a slow-and-steady approach. We had 12 people at the time, a PLD, 3 RNG, 2 RDMs a BRD, a WHM, a BLM, and I think 3 MNKs. The MNKs were mostly just so that we wouldn't have problems on the first floor, they hung back until about halfway through when we put them in one at a time. RNGs used staff, PLD used shield but no weapon, so that when he used Brainjackx4-5 the only people who would be charmed would be the H2H PLD, the Staff RNGs, or the BLM, and maybe 1 MNK. If a MNK got charmed we bound him. The charm doesn't seem to be a full hate-reset either so the PLD would get hate back with a just a flash and a self-cure after charm wore.

The critical difference between our wins and our previous failures seemed to be people's response to charm. It's a DoT effect so you can't sleep anyone, so people yelling "Charm! Sleep! Sleep!" while L-AC is smacking them = failure, people who keep a cool head and just kite during Brainjack = win. It seems pretty much that simple.

Just wondering how many time's you have killed citadel chelonian befour you got the drop. and also wondering if you did anything other than kill the 6 roaming gear's, 4 rampart's then kill Chelonain when he was summoned.

This was actually our first kill, second time we've gotten him to pull. We killed the first gear in the train to test a theory, but eventually just kited them away to the south, bringing ramparts 2 at a time, then CC proper to the portal room you start from.

I've never actually fought this gear train, is it sort of like they're in a party or something? Similar to Fomors in Aqueducts? I mean, is it possible to pull 1 without getting the rest? If so seems like you could just kill them 1 by 1. Either that or wait at the porter and have some pull CC all the way from where he spawns to the porter while the gears are on the other side of the map.

they seem to be in 2 parties of 3, think more ally than PT. We'd pulled 3 off at a time before.

pulling 1 party doesn't get gears from the other party though? Or it does? If they're single gears why not just sleepga the pack and kill em one by one? Single gears are pretty easy with a skillchain.

Haven't fought Citadel in ages since we first popped it, but was it ever decided the best way to farm it with a group of maybe 10 people? Is it best to avoid the gears, and just sac pull the ramparts and then Citadel? Or sac pull the gears and then go for the ramparts and Citadel? We just dodged the gears because it seemed like less overall deaths and hopefully faster.

Are the gears in Arrapago any harder than the triple gears in Zhayolm on 5F? We had a BLM/NIN in Zhayolm today and when we pulled 6 gears, he just sleepga -> sleepga II'd, then when they woke up he was just outside max casting range, and spammed sleepga again. Maybe 2-3 of them got swings in before he got sleepga off, and he just recast his shadows and was fine. He did this until we killed them off, for about 4-5 minutes.

Well, like you can see on our run, we had 9 people, and I think only 1 death on our puller, from when he first aggro'd the full room.

What we'd do was wait for the gear train to just pass the room w/ the ramparts, then our puller would pop a fanatic's drink (loot the 2 rooms w/ the respawning chests until you get one), powder boots/flee, then aggro everything in the room. Our 2 mnks chi'd a rampart apiece, and pulled them back all the way to the starting room. Those ramparts sleep really easily, so keep it dozing while you take down the other. Wait for the gear train to make its lap again, and repeat.

Now Citadel's up, so we all ran to the hallway just before his room, puller went and ran through again. We claimed Citadel and began pulling him back to the start, dot'ing and nuking a bit along the way. Our puller was able to lose aggro on the gear train a few times (again, I think he only died once, if at all)...the junk in the room and the train itself give up pretty easily.

We didn't even need to kill them; just hide in the far corners of their patrol rooms (the corner that doesn't have a door on the adjoining walls) while they float through, and you're clear from aggro.

8/12 on Imp. Wootz ingots...hope to have the haramaki in a few days '__'b

to make it easyer you can pull all 4 rampart's at once to save yourself a sac pull as you said they are easy to keep asleep. we usually only have 9-10ppl on a run aswell. also with the roaming gear's the training idea is a pretty good way of handeling them we usually just kill them. after our 15+ try's =/ they get to be alot easyer to handle but i do remember the 1st few times threw they where a pain to keep slept and kill.

They're sort of partied, but they don't follow normal mob party rules. If you kill the leader of a party of Moblins or Xzomits and lose aggro on the other members, they stand around doing nothing for about a minute then despawn. On that run we got the Haramaki, I kited the gear train away while the group killed the leader of the gear train hoping the other 5 would despawn or at the very least stop moving since they would no longer have a leader... but I was a little disappointed... they just resumed their patrol route

Pulling all 4 ramparts at the same time is a little risky. The gear train's patrol route makes for a very annoying time limit to get your pull back to the entry room. The ramparts move at normal run speed, but they stop to open/close their door every so often. Losing aggro on them along the way is very common, and getting their attention back without getting eaten can be a chore... I wouldn't recommend pulling all 4 unless you've done CC a few times already.

Everything in Salvage is ITG, so they won't despawn. And the smaller Xzomits didn't use to despawn when killing the big one. I'm guessing you're pulling the lot outside of their pathing area, and then zoning. Before the despawning changes, they would still be running around, then the big Xzomit would respawn and the small ones would relink with it in a minute or so.
