This is what I have always felt, almost word for word. I know allll about Karasu's faults, and they have nothing to do with people doing goofy bids.Originally Posted by inafume

It's because of threads like this that people understand how "point system" is a vague concept and specific implementations need to be compared. After that, people might see and adopt a fleshed-out point system where the creators considered how to run a fair distribution of items and wealth without intuitive decision-making. However, people still need to take point systems seriously.Originally Posted by Merona
Point-bidding is a very fascinating way to adjudicate drops. People bash point systems because making it work requires almost as much time and effort on the part of leaders. People not only need to work out the details, but everyone needs to comprehend how the system would work. If members do not understand their point system, it will fail.
Most people that issue blanket statements about point systems are individuals who have a craving for personal decision-making on who gets certain drops, or have a strange attraction to drama that intuitive systems create. Point systems are not all created equal; some are good, some are bad. The argument that states "The point system as a concept is bad because this specific point system is bad," identifies false attributes. Of course, the argument "The point system as a concept is good because this specific point system is good" is equally fallacious.
People need to talk about point systems that actually exist, identify planks that help and harm a point system overall, and formulate superior systems.
There was another part of a discussion where one point system tabulated two values: points, and hours. The points formed the basis of the point-system currency, but the hours value established prerequisites for bidding/obtaining certain items. A LS can design a point system with a myraid of organizational goals. One of the primary accomplishments of the point system over systems where leaders intuit who gets what is people can plan out among themselves who gets what. In standard LS hierarchies, members become too attached to the authority of leaders, become baby-like, and try to play favorites. In point systems, everything should be cut and dry. Of course, you may not want cut and dry... You may want spontaneous and exciting, so you have tradeoffs!
Does your LS run on a point system (that adjudicates drops)? If so, what is your full policy?

Don't forget entire linkshells do the same thing: "Whelp, no m.body still but yet another e.body/Rid. Guess it's your turn to level WAR Everlasting!"
I just went back in saw this post. OP is the leader of the shell and mpks himself quite often.Originally Posted by Furtwangler

This thread should be turned into its own website.
It doesnt change the fact that he is a fucking retard who has one of the most universal SJ's in the game not lvled to 37.Originally Posted by Xerlic
Just goes to show you its another wasted relic item, there is a shitload of bad players carrying around relics throughout this game and we hear about them alot these days. If I was in a dynamis LS and a retard was picked to do fragment/attestation NM's for their upgrade i would flat out refuse to help if i didn't think the player was a quality player to accept the honor.

The fact of the matter is that if your linkshell is capable of killing the NMs that drop said gear, you don't need said gear to kill the NMs in the first place, so who gets it doesn't really matter in the end.
Still a waste half the time with points over need though.
I got all my black belt items before my MNK was level 10. Got my Togi when my MNK was level 2. Need before greed until everyone who needs it, has it. Then you start lootwhoring. That's why i think point systems work for larger LSs, need before greed system works for smaller ones. Whether map was posting that SS tounge-in-cheek or not, doesn't diminish the fact that he cannot level the most versatile melee job to 37.
Well on our server there is a JP guy that runs his own shell that has full blood/crimson armor and sporting his Ridill/Kraken - i dont think he has to worry about 'dkp'Originally Posted by Lordender

this whole debate and I think the whole game comes down to the equivalent of riding shotgun or riding bitch. Mages ride bitch, melees ride shotgun. No one wants to ride bitch, and no one really gives a damn how well they ride bitch. Everyone wants to ride shotgun and do it in style, though.
I think everyone should be forced to have at least one melee and one mage job, and then take turns riding shotgun and bitch.
I seem to have missed the point of this thread. Who cares?
