The biggest problem is that there are many reasons to leave a LS, so its incorrect to assume all shell hoppers are automatically loot whores. Ultimately it really comes down to why they are hopping LS.
In many cases LS hoppers have a better reason for leaving then just moving on to better loot, whether it be schedule issues, conflict with members, or the LS just doesn't suit their playstyle.
However there are those that play the game strictly to enlarge their epeen, and could care less about other people. It's really these kind of people I have a problem with. After spending enough time with these types it becomes obvious though. Eventually it starts getting old and people will have to catch on. It's important to keep a strict recruitment system for this reason.
As stated already, its not that hard to keep a decent lot system either, just make new members pull their own weight and put in a reasonable amount of work before letting them lot on big ticket items. Just set up a good system, and it will be harder for retards to take advantage of your LS. Make no mistake though, it can and probably will still happen. Loyalty seems a rare trait these days.
So what if SE implements a rating system like SIMs/allakhazam? Problem for SIMs were there were groups that tries to blackmail people by threatening to karma bomb people if they dont listen to them.
If SE made restrictions like being able to rate people when they're in the same party, LS, then we might see less abuse and more cooperations instead.
This might be the most retarded idea I've read in months.Originally Posted by Valikyule

It was amusing watching certain players become infamous during EQ1 due to certain actions they undertook.
Yah, welcome to your 2nd job called FFXI. If you want to do a thorough background check to invite a new person into LS, go ahead. Some people unlike the ones in karasu want to play this game for fun, not to stroke their e-peen and be able to play 24/7. I know some people were kicked out of your LS simply because they couldnt log in enough to satisfy their demand. This might be the most retarded idea I've read in months.

Karma has nothing to do for endgame LS's these day. Unless you're a serious offendor like limica, etc, most people are accepted to HNM LS's that only want people who can play hardcore or has all the 1337 gears/jobs to satisfy them.
Besides, having done the role of Sky LS officer before and going through a long line of users, I'd rather have a game that discourages such abuses. Not all of them are listed on KI Titan thread anyways and I'm not going to waste time asking tons of people for the rep on the new incoming people. Besides, if LS hoppers or simply put users are discouraged, you can spend less time doing pointless work and actually play the game. This game is long enough as it is.
Tell that to the LS after research could have prevented a debacle. It doesn't always matter, but if you discover a wolf in sheep's clothing before he/she gets in the LS, your mates should praise you for the effort. Your LS may blame you for not being responsible... as I found out from personal experience.
I'm always wary of the potential for this:
Shell: "Why didn't you look at the KI post about player X stealing equipment from Y LS?"
Recruiter: "Oh... I don't put that much effort into recruiting. I want to have fun!"
Shell: "Asshole."
Recruiter: "Correction: Lazy."
Of course, I'm talking in abstract terms. Having reasonable and effective procedures for recruiting is important, as well as assigning duties to reliable people that will do the research. Finally, I understand some LSs may have to take whoever they can get, and have an awful temptation to just recruit whoever based just on their visible qualifications.

I think its unfair to complain about LS leaders being lazy. The LS members do no work in doing these work and yet enjoy the benefits of a LS. Most of the time, they're only required to help camp/fight mobs to gain points, w/e. The leaders/officer on the other hand have to do all these background check, give instructions, handle lot rules AND do what the ls members do (camp forever, farm, and fight stuff). I think the playing ground isnt fair at all.
Not everybody makes it on the hit list of KI. Not everybody has the time to search through long lists of KI threads or wait 5 minutes per thread to load.
LS leaders/officers have the same right as LS members to play their games, not cater to them. Its truley exhausting when you have to talk with 60+ people about lot rules, where to go, etc. People should really try and experience the frustration and stress of keeping 18+ people together.
While it is good for the LS to get some basic info on new people, it is asking too much to expect the LS officers to do a "thorough" volunteer work in filtering the wrong person out.

LS hoppers tend to have a negative stigma, i.e. they get what they want from one shell like everyone has said, level up a new job and when they realize they're low man on the totem pole, they switch to a different shell and all of the sudden they're hardcore on the new job. They max out the gear on that job, and join another shell, and start getting emo. Of course there are also some people that leave an LS due to clashing playtimes, playstyles, or any of a myriad of reasons. You also see a lot of people leave shells that are on the verge of breaking up due to conflicts that result from misguided or poor leadership (or poor "followership"), or personal conflicts between members.
Sometimes people just get complacent and don't have the same drive to accomplish things and just have a 'been-there, done-that' mentality. It happens when you settle into a routine, you feel stagnant and want to break out of the rut.
Personally I've been in two endgame shells. I left the first one, of which I was an original member, just because it didn't feel like the same shell. We had a surge of new members and I don't think some of the veteran members really acclimated to it. For the most part people were laid back, happy to help each other, etc. The culture kind of changed, which was sad to see but I realized I didn't really belong in it anymore so I left, and joined another longstanding shell. The older shell broke & reorganized and I'm still friends with a lot of the members.
I think you're limited to two or three shells before you start getting called shell hopper. Or maybe if you're in a shell for a month or two, get some nice loot and leave.
lol we lost.... 1 M.Body and 3 A.Bodys
the obvious solution is to only give loot to the leaders.Originally Posted by Rarag

Not like it really matters, but that mbody and 2 of the 3 abodys don't exactly play much anymore. Only one was a pearlsack.
You forgot to mention the Osode.
We lost a Shadow Mantle to a PLD who already planning on leaving our HNMLS but still lotted it. A couple of weeks later, we got Nidhogg, and seeing as how we all knew he was going to leave very soon (like that day or the next), he stayed in the LS. Luckily for us, we got E.Body. That same day, that fgt PLD left the LS. I swear the nerve of some people.
I'm sure every established linkshell has had this happen to them one way or another.
