This is definately interesting stuff, worthy of being posted here. Bills against RMT would solve of problems with them.

Are you worried that your stealing of poped NMs and MPKs of people will get you in trouble irl now?

RMT is a scam. You are selling virtual goods while monpolizing the ability to get said items on your own easily. They steal your shit then sell it back to you and it's not even real. Internet laws are hard to pass, so idk how it will go. We can only hope tho.

That's what makes me think this article Kanodin dug up has some merit to it, and could possibly be on the books soon.
Wikipedia has an entry for virtual tax. If you go to the bottom of the wiki page, there are several news article links.

To emphasize something that may not be clear enough, criminalizing RMT is very different from SE banning accounts. When someone gets the banstick in any game, he or she is more or less free to obtain a new credit card, new ID codes, and reenter the game afresh. With these new issues of governmental institutions intervening, the issue goes beyond the agreement between a player and a software company. Once the issue goes beyond the contract (i.e., the TOS agreement), it becomes an (inter)national criminal justice issue. People might go to jail for selling gil (not just Mordion Gaol). That adds a whole new sobering dimension of reality to something that should only be game.

On a side issue, I am curious as to why this topic was moved from advanced player discussion to general discussion. The general discussion label says that "anything non-FFXI can be posted here." Granted, the links do not explicitly refer to players conducting business in FFXI, but the scope of the RMT issue certainly pertains to all MMORPGS. Also, consider that when the members on this forum discuss RMT, they probably think about it and discuss it in the context of gilsellers/gilbuyers.

I just thought that the mere precedent of a student being arrested for RMT has something to do with the RMT in FFXI. Just my particular point of view.

What exactly do they actually do with their 3rd and 4th chars in that LS?

I just don't see the point in buying chars just to have them.
