Most Bards will agree though that String is mostly useless. Some don't even level it.

    Instruments used from 1-75
    Horn+1 (elegy)
    Faerie Piccolo (march)
    Traversiere+1 (for gimps)
    Cornette+1 (minuet)

That's pretty much all you'll need. don't forget Terra's Staff as well.

Don't waste your time with minstrel's coat, SH saves you inventory space!

Heheh your String Skill is the same as mine, but I'm a level 53 brd
I'm really tempted to go to besiege and try skill up one day, but alas, it hardly happens on Kujata during NA prime time :/

Build a max Wind Skill setup.

Having a nice, solid MP build can be helpful in a few situations, skill is more important though.

Essetnially, by only completing step one, you are ready for endgame. As long as you're not a fucking retard when it comes to singing songs.

someone from this forum mentioned that MAB affects elegy..

i don't know if he was serious or not, but if it's true... does it make the mob slow down more? or make elegy stick better?

Or just macro in any harp (Military if you have it, if not then anything, I used plain old Harp +1 while going 1-75) to your Finale macro and it'll skill itself up while you level.

    It doesn't affect Elegy.

I have been keeping String leveled by using a harp for Paeons(forgot which one I use, lol), rarely use it in parties, but I spam it when I am bored so it gets the job done.

I don't see why so many bards are so proud of the 0 string skill. Wind is useful in 90% of situations but string has its places. If I'm in an all mage party (which happens quite often in manaburn and in my regular LS), harp helps hit everybody that is spread out. Same with using harp for kited battles for certain songs like minuets. I think you lose a grand total of about 4 or 5 atk and the time length bonus from cornette+1 by using a harp.

In dynamis, my Horde Lullaby instrument of choice is Nursemaids. The added range is a huge benefit. Unless you are going a very low skill/chr setup, you should have very very minimal resists with capped string. I might have a handful of resists total in a given Xarca run. The range is especially important if you are small manning a zone with fewer sleepers. Last Dynamis-Tav I went to, I had a bunch of CHR/String, Lullaby was resisted a grand total of 3 times. Like Vig said, just macro in harp to finale and you'll skill it naturally while xping.

tl;dr don't be a lazy ass bard, the job is already stupid easy as it is.

I've seen some BRDs go by max wind skill setup, and some with a balance between wind and singing. One of the BRDs with wind and singing (he had merits into them, though) claimed that he was lullabying aerns in palace at a 45-50% landing rate (pretty significant value considering 0-2 lullaby sticking in the duration of an aern manaburn PT a few months ago); landing lullaby was near impossible for me with an all wind setup. The aern claim won it for me since I'm up for trying anything that can boost my landing rate on these mobs. I've yet to test it myself though, but there's really nothing to lose.

What're ya'lls wind/singing skill at? I'm at 240/243 myself (no merits ), might get a musical earring in the near future to either replace my singing or magnetic earring, clocking me at 245/240 or 245/243.

I'm skeptical of a 50% landing rate on Aerns.

Just macro swap string/wind equipment depending on song. For Horde Lullaby I use +string earrings, feet etc. For single target, I'll macro in Mary's Horn +wind instrument or +chr inplace of the +string gear.

I don't get how you guys get by without lvling your string. I pull with a harp for the greater range so I don't get hit on the way back.

This is off-topic but does anyone seriously enjoy playing BRD (besides the fast lvlup rate)? I can't seem to find any fun in it at all lol, though I've never tried tanking HNM or anything like that with it.

That entirely depends how you define fun, I always love it when I'm playing bard. Pulling keeps me going and I get to do a little bit of everything (buff, debuff, cure...) so there's never a dull moment. To me keeping busy = fun and bard's one of the few jobs that can be busy all the time in XP/HNM if you make it so. Each their own though.

Yeah I didn't think I'd like BRD at first, either. In fact it was level one until like three months ago... then I staticed it with my roomates and I loved it.

It was boring til meripo and I took my time cuz I had a static for a while 44-65. What does it for me is pulling and crowd-controlling. 2 bard parties are especially fun cuz people in other parties always copp a attitude when the pulls dry up.

It was my first job I took to 75 (however many years ago) and it was great having invites left and right. It's also a great job to use to get merits, as you're always wanted for those type of parties. But still, and I don't know about other people, 75BRD has pretty much locked me into a ballad whore role in my hnm LS for ever and ever, despite having a bunch of other jobs at 75. Sad to say after doing it for this long its become kind of dreary...
