You're right in assuming an HTTP proxy probably won't work. Some proxies only open certain ports, so you will have to find one that is open to FFXI's port(s). I think it uses 2 ports, which I knew at one point from a poor attempt at decrypting the packets (lol). I wish I could help more...

I know this thread is finished, but just for the record, FFXI uses the following ports:

- TCP 25, 80, 110, 443 and 50000 - 65535 (range)
- UDP 50000 – 65535 (range)

Lord knows why they need HTTP access to your PC.

It might not be comcasts fault, but people with comcast are having the trouble. In any case still can't connect! Or rather I connect to POL get past receiving messages and who is on my FL then get an error lol

Wow. I've watched it before and it only ever used 2 when I was playing actively. AFAIK it was using 2 UDPs above 50000. Why would it need TCP during normal game access though? (Or is that for downloading updates, connecting to POL, etc?)

I live in AU but have no problems but my friend hasn't been able to log in for a few days now.

Must be ISP related if you living in AU.

A lot of ISPs were affected, but it should be fixed now, the damaged cabling has been fixed.

I'm in PA, I was having trouble yesterday as well, it's been fixed since. I was also having trouble with hotmail.com
