I guess in a perfect world, you wouldn't have your Mage 75 onry people lotting on a D. Ring or a Ridill. I can't believe there are people out there that would rather whore it than let someone who can actually use it have it. You have to be a real asshole to do that.

My LS is small, but for the stuff we do (and will be doing) you can only lot if you can equip the final product. If everyone who can equip it and wants it has it, then it devolves by job level. For really important stuff people set a main job that they'll be lotting stuff for even if they have 15 75 jobs. We also have a few job priority type things set up for when we get to doing Limbus bosses, to get jobs outfitted before people start taking stuff for toys. It's all really informal because at the moment there's... what, 15 of us, and we're all friends.

God forbid hell freezes over and somehow Fafnir drops out of the sky on top of us at 1% and keels over... but in that case it would be WAR > everyone else. If the person is past the trial period, has WAR75, and hasn't been a dillweed, they can lot for it. Let random decide between the WAR's, and they can bitch to SE if they have a problem.

I guess my problem would come in when there's a WAR who's been to all the events, helped out on annoying missions, done stuff he didn't need to do, and is general a very helpful person who would strive to use the item the best way he can.... and Mr. Loot Whore Dickface who might have an amazingly pimped out WAR but is an ass to the LS, doesn't show up to things he can't benefit from, and is in general a pain in my butt. One guy might be Wal-Mart AH WAR but really deserves it, while the other has everything he needs to make the best use of it but is not an asset to the LS.

That's when it becomes a problem to me.

In that instance, kick the asshat WAR before the problem has a chance to happen.

True or not, it sounds more like, seriously if officer/e-gf wants ridill, we use our discretion! Otherwise seems like a pretty solid point system. I'm just saying, why bother when theres a little hidden clause saying, on rare occassions, if you've worked for it and we don't like you, we can pick someone else!
Yeah i guess it could be taken that way. Think we've used it a total of 4 times in 3 years, and all were worth it.

Way we use it is actually the opposite of how you stated it. It's pretty much if someone worked hard as hell on something and doesn't have more points than someone else that they may get it. But as it says, it's rare. Infact extremely rare. I can only think of one instance in the past 6 months

But whatever works for you works no system is better than another

How I would handle it if I ran a linkshell:

Create a list of high profile, highly desired, and ultimately high drama items. A proto-typical list could be Ridill, Defending Ring, Ninurta's Sash, what have you. Keep the list small and limited only to those once every blue moon items that just might never drop again. When someone joins the linkshell, they specify if they want any of those items. The website will say that it won't affect their odds of getting in the linkshell, but what the website doesn't specify is how it will affect their treatment. There will be a three month "limited membership" period, which basically means they can't lot on the high drama items regardless of if its points or discretion based. If they specified any of the items on the list, every single event will have a search done for where they are and they will be monitored in accordance to what events they show up versus what they want.

After three months, they are given this questionaire:

    1) If you get (insert high drama item(s) here), will you stay with us until you quit the game? Please explain your answer.

    2) If you get (insert high drama item(s) here), would you be willing to insure they stay with the linkshell by letting a leader or other trusted linkshell member have access to your account? (if they say no, ask them to explain why not)

    3) If you quit the game after receiving (insert item here), you will be required to give the account to the linkshell leader, who will change the billing information and password. Is that okay?

Finally, the trick question that weeds everyone out:

    4) I'm sorry, it seems you don't qualify for (insert item here) and will have to wait for (insert large number of people here) to get it before you will be allowed to lot. Will you be staying with us?

If they stay, then that is really enough proof of worthiness. If they leave, they really only cared about themselves in the end. The other three questions are just tests of character in how they respond to them. Are they syncophantic or do they actually have a brain? Are they really being honest or just searching for answers that they think you expect? The idea here is to weed out anyone joining for items in favor of people joining to be a good part of the linkshell.

This system may sound draconic, unfair, and mean, but it certainly gets rid of people that really only joined just to get Ridill, Defending Ring, whatever. That's probably why I'm not a leader of anything.

in a non point based linkshell the items being given out is only as good as the leader. I think some people just cannot handle certain items when it drops and we read about the drama in this forum about it. A good leader will use common sense and make the right choice on who to give that ridill rather than give it to some lootwhore who wants to act stupid and brag.

Yay for tricking people, I'm all for helping the LS but in the end people are there to get items of course they care about themselves. They don't join saying I want to help such and such get a Ridill!

Ridill is still only a TOY, everyone know its best for war but to be fair it should be equal to everyone but the one with most point will get. Have war use less point but give chance to others job to get. Otherwise the rng, sam rng have no chance to ever get one even if he camp fafnir everyday.

be realistic, everyone camping it wants it, theres no if ands or buts about it. the length it takes to get war to 75 is minimal compared to the amount of time camping it

Someone without the proper jobs leveled (hell any of the ones that use it besides maybe bst) shouldn't really be allowed to just lot it and then level the job...But if it comes down to say a Drk vs a War and the drk has more points I'm all for the drk getting it.

Wow, it sounds like your LS is desperately trying to get people's account information. That sounds shady as hell.

    hmm

I don't know about your LS, but in mine a lot of people share account info. Usually with one or two other people.

The way I look at it, it benefits you and the linkshell as a whole at a small risk, if you are intelligent and don't just randomly give out your account info to people you don't really know very well.

Also, there are many times where I think that if someone did jack my account, I would be much better off in the game of life.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    On topic:

Reiterating what most people already said. My linkshell is point based, but it also uses common sense. During RMT's Reign of terror on Ulli we managed to do 3 Byakko's and get 3 Haidite. It came down to 2 WAR, a NIN, and a BST wanting to lot. The BST had enough points to lot it, but in the end wasn't allowed. It's just common sense that a BST wouldn't help our shell and it would be a waste of a Haidite compared to the WARs and NIN.

You just have to approach the situation with which owner will end up benefitting the Linkshell as a whole. BST and SAM don't qualify under that criterion.

Also, the people coming up with crazy scenarios of trial PLD and 12month SMN and D Rings? I don't know about your shells, but nothing even remotely like this happens in mine.

I agree on this, our first ridill went to a DRK and the next went to a WAR, the next 2 ridills went to our 2 THFs. Giving a Ridill to a WAR that is absolutly never in the shell and doesnt help out like other peoples, is not very good in my point of view.

Nah, all such things would ultimately be voluntary. There's no actual requirement of giving account to the linkshell (although if it were something like a full relic weapon, it would be debatable). The idea behind this is to basically find people that won't cause problems because they weren't allowed to lot on said item. I wouldn't want someone to join if all they're going to do the next time said item drops is bitch about the choice of recipient and leave in fustration (or, worse, half-ass the rest of their time in linkshell until they either get said item or give up on getting it, then leave).

I am thief and I don't want it. I'd only want it to stop someone who shouldn't get it from getting it. I.e. a resident loot whore that just got into the LS and I don't think should be there (old drama for me, lol)

The single ridill in my ls belongs to the war who's been in the shell since the beginning, and has stayed in the shell through 3 mass-exodus'. He's promised the shell in teh beginning that he'd stay with them until the end. Bam, he's the perfect person to have the Ridill
Also, he's one of the smartest WARs I know that actually know what pdif and fstr mean and all of that melee jazz. Bam, he's the perfect person for a Ridill; not the job, nor the person. But the person who has both, the person and the job.

With that being said, Person with job > Person > Job.

I read this entire thread and all i got was..
Daahan: How goes the female hunt Shiznicle?
Shiz: I don't know, haven't left the house in a month.
Shiz: Well, I got the binoculars, so I guess the hunt is still on.
    Daahan: Shiz, that's kinda creepy
Shiz: Well, if I can't find anybody close I still have the telescope.

The utility of Ridill for War should be taken into consideration, but don't count out other jobs that have lower utility with it. This issue came up in our LS between a Rng with more points and a War with less. Both were allowed to lot, and the War ended up winning it. Drama almost broke out, but alas another Ridill dropped the next day rendering all the drama from before absolutely pointless.

Point is, another one will drop. There's no use in starting drama, since once it drops again it makes all previous arguments moot. What's even more foolish is to deny any wrong-doing of saying degrading statements to prolong the drama to near Iraq War levels.

I agree lets just let the WHMs lot because they may level a job for the ridill. You dont give it to people [like SAMs] because honostly they may not like WAR.

Hands down: Ridill is a warrior item, to anyone else its a toy, there is no debate here If a WHM wants a ridill, they can level war to 75 and then lot it.
