Because if you're going to put war-related deaths of his soldiers on him as the "slaughterer of millions of people" then you have to pin 2900+ U.S. soldiers' deaths on George Bush and consider him the "slaughterer of thousands of people".

Some do. But it obscures the enormity or lack thereof of Saddam's crimes. People don't generally count German soldiers' deaths in WWII as part of "people who Hitler slaughtered". Saddam is a piece of shit, but artificially inflating his #s is, well, dumb?
