or is there no diffrence, (those sites are blocked from work)
At least COP missions had some challenge... all tau is.. is a lot of walking around and talking to npc's with a random tooweak boss fight thrown in the mix.
The newest batch of missions I did all the CS and then duo'd Khimaira to get another CS and then I have to wait on the new missions. ; ;Originally Posted by Minions
It's almost as if they dumbed down the ToAU missions, but then you have to wonder where the idea that CoP is too difficult or that the average player can't ever hope to reach Sea came from...Originally Posted by Scythiroth
I have a wacky feeling that when we get to the end-game sky-type area of ToAU you are probably going to have to have all of the missions completed as well as the highest mercenary rank. That will probably ass out more people than you can imagine. (Although Salvage is forcing people to do Assaults now.)
It seems now that there's only room for two areas that might have endgame-specific material in them for ToAU:Originally Posted by Septimus
Nyzul Isle, which is likely to be an Assault area, or home to an area similar to Assault, and access to it probably will have something to do with either Missions or Mercenary Rank or both. If I remember right, Taj or someone spotted Astral Pliniths in this zone before the Ruins were released.
Also interesting to note, there are more than 10 Mercenary Ranks since the patch before last. I'll POLUtis Whitegate's dialogue .DAT tonight to see if I can find the ones past Sergeant Major again.
And the Hazhalm Testing Grounds, the big winding underground staircase with several large "Arenas", numerous gates and a final almost pitch-black area at the very bottom. Constant double-dark weather too. This area has been mentioned in the ToAU Mission Storyline as a place where biological experiments took place and produced chimeras.
Other areas not released, but planned for the expansion:
- The Pit, a BC area against monsters?
- The Coloseum, a new Conflict-style area?
- Chocobo Circuit, relates to Chocobo Racing
Other than these two zones, the likelihood of a multi-area regional "endgame" area is pretty close to nil... unless SE breaks the mold with how they've been dealing with expansions and releases actual new zone files in one of their patches in the same way they introduce new armor or NPCs.
There was a zone released before CoP that has never been released called "The Last Stand". People who have participated in the Alpha of the FFXIProject have entered the area and found out that it's another area similar to the Horutoto Ruins, kinda like Mordion Gaol. Another GM-based area, perhaps?
I think your right in that Nyzul Isle Assault will require a certain Assault Ranking to enter, it's definately the oddball of assault areas. It has 7 maps much like Arrapago/Zhayolm Remnants but there are no teleporters to take you between floors, and also to note ( Possibly Spoiler) a functioning astral candescence on it's final floor.Originally Posted by Jeryhn
Another thing to consider about remaining Assault ranks. Periqia has 10 maps just like the others, except only 5/10 of the maps are utilized in the 7 current assault missions, leaving 5 unused maps so far. I find it improbable (and maybe undesirable even) that assault would reach up to rank 15, but I guess the possibility is there.
15 ranks would be undesirable. I've been sitting on S&M rank for some time now, so it'd be nice to keep having new ranks to reach.Originally Posted by Gwynplaine
Besides, the more ranks there are when something desirable is added that requires top rank, the better.
Some assaults use more than one map (see Building Bridges). I think they just included all relevant geometry when they released the expansion, so that they could use any of it in any way they please later, but by no means do they have an obligation to use all of it.
There will be only 10 ranks, based on the text areas in the dat for the commissions office.
For some reason, I thought that this area was was used for a special event at the Tokyo Game Show or one of the other shows where you fought Trion, etc. Now that I look at the dialog in that zone again though, it really doesn't make that much sense. Not to mention that I have no idea why they'd push down a zone to all clients just for a special event.Originally Posted by Jeryhn
I can assure you that there are more than 10 ranks, based on Whitegate's Dialog .DAT file, there are at least 11 ranks (4 beyond Sergeant Major).Originally Posted by aurik
If you have your own POLUtis, you can check it out yourself. Check out the area of the .DAT used to hold the dialog entries for the quest where you're sent to check out Beastman weaknesses. If you answer both questions correctly, the NPC reacts to your current rank by saying you'll be a good "Next Rank". That line of text contains all the known ranks. It used to only display the next rank up, but it has displayed more since the patch before last.
The zone they used for this event, and for the event against the "Vana'diel Heroines", is the Stellar Fulcrum at the top of Delkfutt's Tower.Originally Posted by Sykes
I'm with aurik until you provide the dialog you're describing. There's a number of areas in the dialogs and other .dat files that correspond to the assault missions, which all have the form 7 current leujaum missions > 3 placeholders > 7 current mamool > 3 ph > 7 curr. lebros > 3 ph > 7 curr. periqia > 3 ph > 7 curr. ilrusi > 13 ph, suggesting 10 total missions for 6 zones (last one still unreleased).Originally Posted by Jeryhn
Unless perhaps the 11th rank has no assault missions and is maybe just for the purpose of buying items with Imperial Standing, longer Sanction, and/or the requirement for a later battleground.
You want proof, you got it.
I copied the entire line of the text in the .DAT file so you can verify on your own end should you choose to, search using the number in bold:
That's:Dialog Table Entry 02658
You are well on the path to becoming a ≺Multiple Choice (Parameter 1)≻[/Private First Class/Superior Private/Lance Corporal/Corporal/Sergeant/Sergeant Major/Master Sergeant/Warrant Officer/Second Lieutenant/First Lieutenant]. I will report your success to Salaheem's Sentinels.≺Prompt≻
1 Private Second Class
2 Private First Class
3 Superior Private
4 Lance Corporal
5 Corporal
6 Sergeant
7 Sergeant Major
8 Master Sergeant
9 Warrant Officer
10 Second Lieutenant
11 First Lieutenant
I think that there will eventually be more than 10 ranks too, but in all fairness, that dialog says your next rank, not your current one, so even once all the ranks are added, there will still be 1 more rank in that dialog than it is possible to get in the game.
That's the point. I've been using this NPC since ToAU's release to predict the next rank up when you hit the current rank cap. And I don't think the game would tell you there's another possible rank if you were not meant to one day obtain it.Originally Posted by Sykes
Prediction: Private 2nd Class -> 2nd Lieutenant = Rank 1 -> Rank 10. Maybe the 1st Lieutenant rank is some kind of arbitrary reward for accomplishing something else, like maybe every single Assault mission?
