QFT, it's a really annoying thing for Microsoft to do right after Christmas, but it's probably considered genius to them. Biggest rip since Game Boy Pocket.Originally Posted by Anyway

Seems more like a restyle in terms of Slimline. Added 1080P of course through HDMI. Larger HD is nice because of the new downloadable movies and whatnot. Oh well![]()
Wonder how much the 120 HD would retail for on its own.. $100?
Heh, yeah. "Hay gaiz, lets release another version of the system causing people to go in a mass frenzy to buy it!" ..."k"
100 bucks? They charge 100 bucks for the fucking wireless network adapter when it costs them like.................. 5 bucks to make it.
MS are even worse than Sony.
Can't blame the accessories for being overpriced, they lose money for every console sold, gotta make it back somehow, heh.Originally Posted by Exoduso

I guess I'm looking at this in a different way than most. I'm actually very happy they are doing something about the problems associated with the 90nm chip 360s.
As an owner of Microsoft stock in our portfolio, it is good for the company overall to move to the cheaper upcoming 65nm processors. The new 65nm chips will help the machine run much cooler, which cuts down on system problems tied to all that extra heat created by the older chips. The much smaller 65nm chip will also help cut costs by reducing the size of the cooling parts needed to prevent the 360 from overheating.
Basically, the company is getting cheaper product, and the consumers are getting a much more stable reliable system. If you take into account other new features such as the HDMI input, you can see they are meeting the demands of what the consumers are asking for. The 120 GB HDD is also a consumer requested demand. Especially now that Microsoft has launched it's download service for Movies and TV shows in HD and the overwhelming positive reaction to it.
Lastly, for those who recently purchased a 360, or got one as a gift for the holidays; Chartered Semiconductor, the chip manufacturer who is doing the 65nm processor for Microsoft recently announced they were going to have a delay.
The delay in mass production is going to put them off from meeting their Q1-2007 date to at least late Q2-early Q3. This means the new 360 will hit at the earliest this summer. Hopefully, this extra time will allow them to work out solutions for such things as also possibly adding in an HD-DVD drive into the system instead of the standard noisy banshee drive.
In the end, I guess we all have to remember the day we buy something tech and take it home from the store, it's already outdated. There is no real way to stop people from feeling slighted now a days. Technology is just moving that fast. You can embrace it, or fight it. Your better off though just trying to go with whatever pace you can afford to keep up with.
LOL in terms of being sold by MS or by some other manufacturer for PCs?Originally Posted by Po
If it was individual by MS I could see $100, but it's a little unlikely because any person than knows anything about building custom PCs would look at that and say wtf? Because I can get a 300gig hard drive for PC for about the same price.
Whether or not people will "upgrade" is unknown, but I will predict that not a lot of people who already owned an Xbox 360 would buy this so they could download like 10 movies. Will it potentially attract new customers? Yes. Will it attract many? No, because most people looking to buy a console imo are looking for "cool" games with "cool" graphics.
Of course you can get a PC Hard Drive cheaper than a Hard Drive made by Microsoft for it's Xbox 360. You aren't really paying that $100 for a 20GB HDD. You are paying the $100 for a proprietary 20GB HDD that is the only one to connect to the 360. Does that make it right for them to charge so much for it? No. But, it's their system & as long as the price is reasonable it helps offset system cost losses right along with all the other accessories, add ons and games.Originally Posted by Deuciont
As to whether or not people will upgrade, if you like to keep up with Joneses you'll upgrade. If your old Xbox360 makes as much noise as a 747 flying overhead then yeah, you'll probably upgrade. Lots of different people will either upgrade to the newer system or stick with their old one until for whatever reason they decide it's time.
Will it attract new customers, yes, will it attract lot of new customers, yes again. It will get those that have wanted a 360 for a while but now will hold off until the summer to buy one. It will also attract those who were on the fence for whatever their personal reason, deciding whether or not to purchase a PS3 since the gap in the differences between the systems will have been narrowed even that much more.
I love games, I too just want the cool games. That's why we own all the consoles in our house. Does our PS3 get used at the moment, no. Will it in the future? Yes, it will due to certain games remaining only on the PS3. I will say though, that our Wii and 360 get used the most.
Gamers should just go where the games they want are and be damned the system name or who makes it. Being loyal to one system or the other is increasingly becoming a moot issue anyways with so many exclusive titles for one system, no longer remaining exclusive after all.
