Don't get me wrong, I think its awesome when I see a beautiful looking game graphics-wise, but in this day and age a graphics upgrade in a gaming console isn't very mind boggling.

A normal human can't see the difference between a console that can make
5 trillion polygons and one that can generate 3 trillion polygons. The first one is more impressive, but who will be able to tell the difference?

    Innovative gameplay > graphics upgrade.
Just need Smash Brothers online and I'm set for life.

No, Nintendo realized they could skimp on graphics and *say* it's because they want better gameplay, then they get tons of fans who buy a system because of a gimmicky remote control said to be inovative yet didn't bring anything new to the table. The Wiimote just reminds me of one of those cheap Tiger games you hook up and play for a little bit...

Nothing at all was holding Nintendo back from releasing a system on par with current technology, they just didn't want to take the risk. I can respect Sony and Microsoft for taking that risk and in the end it'll be those companies who last well into the console war. You can definitely quote me on this one: Nintendo won't win the console war this generation with such lackluster hardware. They'll do what they've been doing since PSX was released, sit back, make some money, and make 10,000 mario games while sitting in a not-so-distant third place. It's a good market strategy, but hardly brings anything new to the gaming world.

The DS was said to be a gimmick 2 years ago. Look at where it is now.

Give the Wii a year or two, you'll eat your words.

Nintendo profits instantly with every Wii sold. This is why they don't have uber graphic specs.

What will decide that Wii becomes the next DS is the game selection. Before anything else, the game selection always picks the winner.

Oh i forgot, MOTION SENS0RS R TEH NEW! Right? Sorry .

IR motion sensors are old news, it's not even news to the Atari the ancient cavemen used to draw pictures on cavewalls with, or whatever Ataris were used for...

Anyways answer this question, what has Nintendo done for the console gaming world since PSX? Sony revolutionized 3D gameplay. Microsoft took consoles to the internet. Nintendo... made Mario games? If this "Revolution" is Nintendo idea on where gaming should go, I'm glad I got off of the bandwagon after NES. Wii is nothing but status quo with a Tiger® controller.

Nobody can argue that the DS was an innovative move, yet I really can't understand why people think the Wiimote is something new??!! If it was a true motion sensor that read positions in space (remember initial reports on what "Revolution" would be??) then it would really revolutionize gaming. This is nothing but a cheap tinker toy that Microsoft or Sony could pop out in a split second.

Analog controller and rumble were from Nintendo. Sony revolutionised 3d play? No, Mario 64 did. How? Analog controller.

And between NES and PSX, they started the shoulder buttons thingie too.

Actually, no, that's not right. Sony created the first analog controller for PS1 named the flight stick. Anyways the first analog controller made was way way back in those cavemen days... Sony's HARDWARE revolutionized 3D gaming. Nintendo, as per usual, took the then status quo technology and made Mario gamez.

I'm not talking about silly things like controllers.. It's stupid to even consider saying Sony, Nintendo, or Microsoft revolutionized gaming controlls since Atari had every single idea known to man covered with the hordes of controllers they made. If your stance is that Nintendo applied this technology better, that's cool.. not going to argue with that. But revolutionize? Nintendo hasn't revolutionized squat in console gaming for years.

    But they didn't take off.

I actually invented Pokemon when I was a kid, I used to battle my neighbours with my team which consist a praying mantis, a spider, 2 lizards, a bunch of ants and 2 fighting fish. We'd battle everyday and first to win 5 matches win. I lose often cause my mom doesn't allow me to feed my fishes live worms and the frozen worms didn't have enough proteins to keep them strong and healthy. Nintendo so stole my idea.

Because it was a flight sim controller.. People have the impression that these companies just whip up ideas and immediately start producing, which is very untrue. N64 came out with an analog controller the same year that Sony did, and Sony had obviously toyed with the idea earlier, who was copying? They both were!

The only thing Nintendo can say for itself since PS1 was released is that they've had very solid 1st party games. Other then that they push last years technology and hype it up like it's the second coming of Christ, people eat it up and they sell a bunch of systems to Nintendophiles. Then as times goes on people realize they're working with an inferior system and Microsoft and Sony duke it out for first place. Just like what happened to Wii's baby brother Gamecube.

Are you a developer for any console? Just curious to see your reply, so it can determine if i'm taking you seriously or not, since my friends who actually do work in the industry have been telling me how easy it is to work on nintendo's dev kits as opposed to the sony ones.

Gamecube offered nothing new to the gaming industry aside from it's own medium to use, Nintendo are now forcing everyone to use their new style of controller if you want to play their games, while this might not be new to you, or 5 other people who played with motion sensors in that niche market, this is new to a lot of people who didn't see how gaming is with it. Nintendo brought it into everyone's home now, at an affordable price.

Your sig shows how well Wii is doing worldwide, systems don't have to be top of the line to shift industry focus, if that was the case, that would mean Macintosh, Betamax, and N64 would have been top of their range in their day, but it was the more popular choice that always takes over.

Most popular and not being superior isn't necessarily a bad thing, windows is workable with, vcr was very cheap to work with (and very user friendly), and PS1 despite being graphically inferior with extremely long loading times, was very popular due to a few franchises moving to it (and piracy).

Wii is the only console that i've seen in action that has made non gamers want to hop in and play, and let me tell you they don't give 2 squirts of shit for hyper realistic graphics. They're having fun, which was the intent of the Wii.

2.3million Wii owners agree with me (according to your sig).

I'd round it up and say 2.4 million users agree....

would be a lot more, I'm certain there are lots of ppl out there who want a Wii but arent willing to camp at 4am for it. Just think about all the parents who were going to buy their kids Wii's, but couldnt because every store was sold out.

Just like how nintendo is trying to make motion sensors play a huge role in their console gaming. Sure, Atari may have done it first but it didn't play a huge role in the development of the system like it does for the Wii.

And I don't even remember that many mario games for the gamecube... unless you're counting stuff like mario strikers and tennis. I think most would agree that those games were fun as hell though.

Edit: Oh and if you get to say motion control wasn't revolutionary because atari did it. I'm going to say taking consoles to the internet wasn't revolutionary because Dreamcast did it.

My friends is teh owner of a game company lulz. I really hate the "well my friend is this" argument, it's silly. My opinion is based on playing it for awhile.. It's really nothing special at all. Anyways my point is just that the Wii is nothing Revolutionary. It has status quo written all over it. A controller making or breaking a system, in my opinion, is a stupid idea. There's nothing stopping Sony or Microsoft from making the same type of controller (in fact, according to digg Sony owns a patent to a device identical to the wiimote).

Tiger games were a niche market and expensive? (not necessarily Tiger brand onry, just the cheapy game brand that I'm sure mostly everyone here remembers) I see them everywhere I go... Hell I had about 10 different types when I was little, much like the "Wii Sports" pack out now.

Your sig shows how well Wii is doing worldwide, systems don't have to be top of the line to shift industry focus, if that was the case, that would mean Macintosh, Betamax, and N64 would have been top of their range in their day, but it was the more popular choice that always takes over.
Pretty sure my sig shows that 360 has sold more then 4 times as many systems as Wii... If I remember correctly, before Christmas 360 was at around 6million units sold, meaning they sold more 360s over Christsmas then the Wii did. Guess that means 360 wins??

Yeah cuz that sort of thing never happens with games like guitar hero or hell any of the hundreds of party games out there... My cousin was playing TP on his Wii on Christmas day and everyone just wanted to kick him off so they could play some karaoke game on PS2... I was the only one who wanted to try WiiSports and I ran into the very problems I expected, IR is shit. It's old and useless technology, I'm still not sure why Nintendo settled for it (although I'm leaning towards the fact that it's CHEAP).

I loved Saturn ... The racing game with horrid karaoke always made me laugh. "ROOOOOOOOLING START!!!!" WHAT GAME WAS THIS FROM???

Anyways I think it's just the Nintendo fanboys that get bent out of shape when someone says anything other then "I love the Wii!!!!1". You just have to face a few facts:

    -It's not revolutionary
-It doesn't have the lifetime of 360 and PS3
-It's too weak to handle 360/PS3 ports

After that, you can appreciate the fact that Nintendo has great 1st party games and the Mario/Zelda franchise. Every console has big problems.. 360 has no JP support and PS3 costs as much as a 360 and Wii combined...
